A blend of biodynamically farmed Cabernet Franc and Côt (aka. Malbec) from a 60-yo vineyard. Fermented spontaneously and macerated in a concrete vat. Aged in old 225-liter barriques and 400-liter demi-muids. 13,5% alcohol.

Dense, fully opaque blackish-red color with a youthful blueish hue. The nose feels youthful, dark-toned and quite complex with aromas of crunchy forest fruits, some inky tones, a little bit of candied primary fruit, light funky tones, a sweeter hint of juicy dark fruits and a faint vegetal touch of stewed herbs. The wine feels ripe and fruity but also very lively without any excessive sweetness or fat. Medium in body with intense flavors of brambly raspberries, crunchy crowberries and tart chokeberries, some inky tones, a little bit of gravelly minerality, light herbaceous notes of leafy Cab character, a hint of earth and a ferrous touch of blood. The overall feel is still surprisingly stern and tightly-knit, thanks to the high acidity and moderately grippy medium-plus tannins. The finish is long, dry and somewhat grippy with a bright, acid-driven aftertaste of brambly raspberries and tart chokeberries, some gravelly mineral tones, a little bit of something funky, light earthy notes and a leafy hint of herbaceous greenness.

A wonderfully firm, serious and pretty classically styled Touraine red that is quite immediately identifiable for a red Loire wine - although the wine is not particularly herbaceous, the Cabernet Franc portion does shine through in a quite lovely fashion. The wine is very obviously made to be a vin de garde - I was afraid the wine was soft and excessively ripe due to the quite warm 2018 vintage, but this was anything but! The wine was remarkably high in acidity for a 2018 wine and based on the still very youthful - almost primary - fruit flavors, I can see this wine benefiting greatly from another 5-10 years of additional aging. Excellent value at 21,70€.

Tasty wine with that natural wine purity of fruit that is so delicious. I could drink this all day for my health (actually it might be lower alcohol). It didn't have pronounced, memorable qualities...maybe more of a high-grade table wine. But quite enjoyable.

The aging seemed appropriate. It showed no signs of being over the hill. However, this tastes like a wine best drunk on the younger side.

Very young, in need of air to open up. A bouquet of pear and spices. Rich, full on palate feel. Fat texture. Marks of pear and apricot, pepper. Very long and deep. Delicious Chenin which will get more interesting with age. Reminds me of our wonderful visit to the domaine in january.

Initially very funky and reduced on opening, an hour or so in the bottle revealed an incredibly joyous wine bursting with super pure strawberry fruit, bramble and a strong line of maritime salinity. The structure is impressive, almost painfully tannic but with a great punch of countervailing acidity. I would give this one a bit more time to relax the tannins but, no doubt, this is delicious and should have the wherewithal to age.

100% Chenin Blanc from the biodynamically farmed, 15 years old lieu-dit Les Epinays. Harvested on 14th of September, 2018. Fermented spontaneously and aged for 18 months in oak foudres and egg-shaped concrete tanks. 14,5% alcohol.

Youthful and luminous pale green color. The nose feels fragrant and clean with nuanced aromas of ripe yellow apple, some zesty citrus fruits, a little bit of acacia honey, light apple jam tones, a hint of greengage and a touch of waxy richness. The wine feels ripe, broad and quite substantial on the palate with a full body and youthful, at least seemingly off-dry flavors of lemon marmalade and beeswax, some stony mineral notes, a little bit of white peach, light honeyed tones, a hint of apple jam and a touch of creaminess. The high alcohol punches through a bit and the moderately high acidity lends sense of structure to the wine, even if it doesn't really feel high enough to offset any of the sweetness from the rich fruit flavors. The finish is big, ripe and somewhat fat with a long, somewhat off-dry aftertaste of white peach and apple sauce, some stony mineral tones, a little bit of beeswax, light honeyed nuances, a hint of lemon marmalade and a touch of quince jam.

This turned out to be a rather big, heavy and sweet-toned Chenin, but relatively nice for such - the fruit department feels clean, vibrant and nuanced and even if the wine isn't super brisk and zippy in the acid department, there is still enough acidity to keep the wine balanced and structured. It's hard to assess whether the wine is technically dry or actually off-dry / medium-dry (or even medium sweet) because the wine is so big, ripe and sweet-toned that you can't really tell whether the richness comes from any residual sugar or just the ripe, concentrated fruit. Nevertheless, this was a great effort - even if it drinks more like a white Châteauneuf-du-Pape rather than like a Vouvray. Seeing how youthful the wine is, I could see this aging gracefully for many, many more years. Drink now or whenever you want before the 2030's.

100% Chenin Blanc from biodynamically farmed vineyards averaging 80 years in age. Harvested on 23rd and 24th of September, 2019. Fermented spontaneously in oak barrels. 14% alcohol.

Pale, youthful and quite neutral yellow-green color. The nose feels quite ripe but also a bit reticent with aromas of white peach, some apple jam, light cool green-toned hints of peppermint, a little bit of cantaloupe, a hint of waxy funk and a touch of creaminess. The wine feels broad, ripe and quite sunny on the palate with a full body and lush flavors of apple jam and mushy white peach, some fresh apricot tones, a little bit of stony minerality, light creamy nuances, a hint of waxy funk and a touch of acacia honey. The rather high alcohol lends a little bit of warmth to the palate and the medium acidity gives some sense of balance and structure to the wine but the overall feel remains quite round and a bit heavy. The finish is rich, juicy and slightly warm with a moderately long, sweetly-fruited aftertaste of white peach and fresh apricot, some rich waxy tones, a little bit of stony minerality, light sweet nuances of apple jam, a hint of creaminess and a touch of honeydew melon.

A round, fruit-driven and a bit weighty Chenin from the very ripe end of the spectrum. I guess in a cool vintage this kind of richness and lush flavor profile can work really well when you have more acidity and the overall fruit character doesn't get too sweet. However, this vintage feels a bit too soft and heavy, also starting to taste a bit too sweet after the wine warms up in the glass. This is a pretty nice wine, but the somewhat modest acidity does take a small toll on the final score.

Organic & biodynamic.
I am a bit torn on this one... Fantastic intensity on the nose, mostly mineral & floral notes. The palate also packs quite a punch but sadly, it lacks tension, leaving it to fall a teensy bit flat in the finish. Still, it is a lovely wine that is quite enjoyable with a lengthy finish. I suppose I just wouldn't hold onto it for eons in hopes that it will improve with time since the acidity just isn't there.

Deep ruby. Off the bat this was impressive. Complex, inviting, perfumed nose—floral (hyacinth, lavender), fruity (dark berry), and a hint of flinty mineral and tannic depth. On the palate, bright and lively acidity, elegant, berry driven fruit with a firm but noble tannic grip. This is my kind of wine, but I do think it needs more time, the kind of wine that needs at least 10 years. Not easy to find.

A private dinner (Restaurant Contrast, Amsterdam,NL): Organic and biodynamic viticulture, 50 year old vines, fermented and aged in barrel without bâtonnage. Relaxed, old vine creaminess, discreet aromas (aromatic green herbs, hint of earth, peach and passion fruit), beautifully balanced, lovely stuffing of fruit, seamless acidity, juicy and supple, hint of cantaloupe on the finish, very good persistence.

Intriguing Loire red from 120+ year old malbec (cot) vines in Touraine. Not remotely like a South American malbec in style, tannin or weight. Freshly ground black pepper on the nose, dark color but much lighter and engaging on the palate with indiscernible berry fruit, more black pepper, low tannins, balanced, no noticeable oak, sapid, 13.5% alc., it was a good match with roast chicken with mushrooms, garlic and rosemary. Definitely has the potential to develop and morph with more bottle age.

Popped and poured into a Glasvin Universal.
I was immediately concerned because the bottom half centimeter of the cork was soaked and sprayed a little when the cork was popped, and the nose was initially wild. The color is deep and pure. My other bottle of this was 6 years ago and I wrote “smooth and fruity, with the slightest hit of fresh funk. Strawberry and balsamic without the sugar. Delicious long finish, nice silky texture.”

Now, the funk is certainly now more prominent. The fruit has receded nearly entirely, and this time the acid sticks out. Oddly the tannins are more grippy and pronounced now and the funk doesn’t fade, which makes me think this is either long past its peak or a bad bottle

First nose gives you yellow apple. After a few minutes in the glass you get some white flowers and honey. Then some crème pâtissière. I see what the other comments mean, lacks a bit of tension but still the aromatics are very complex and nice. In the mouth it’s all about honeydew melon and honey that last for 2-3 minutes. That is crazy. Oily texture, you indeed taste the wood but nothing like à US chardonnay. Overall an enjoyable wine. 90-91 (note shouldn’t be about personal appreciation but about the (most possible) objective quality of the wine).
