Overall, OK. Lacks many things, but it is not un-drinkable. For casual occasions, or a 'just because' bottle of bubbles, even as a mixer, it does its job, but do not expect anything spectacular.

Some berry fruits. Elegant and fine. There’s tobacco and earth development. It is relatively lean through the mid-palate and finishes with tart berry crunch.

This one always delivers a mouth full of flavor. Dark purple but not quite opaque color. Soft, rotary fermented dark fruit entry. Feels it’s 14% alcohol. Very nice ripe blueberry and blackberry fruit. Smooth, maybe just a touch of oak. Wet tree bark mildly grainy tannins. Really quite fruity. Barely medium bodied. Actually gets a bit more complex with time in the glass.

Dark amber/orange. Acid is gone, interesting tertiary notes of caramel and baked apple/pear. Needed a white wine to add to scampi after steeping shells

Still deep dark ruby in colour. Again takes time to open, but after 10 minutes the shiraz comes through, with ashy smoky tones. The flavour is raspberry, velvet, cigar box and chocolate, fading at the end. Still a truly very fine wine. Drink in the next couple of years

Good colour with just the hint of brick.
Suttle well balanced nose with great complexity, certainly secondary nuisances coming to the fore. Hints of berry, licorice & cedar. Palate is velvety smooth with great texture and verve, a long lingering finish. Great wine at peak but no hurry.

More shiraz than cabernet. Good structure and decent balance. The cabernet provides a tannin profile that adds to the structure. Acidity is fine and holds the wine together through to a medium long finish.

Almost exactly as expected. Exhibits real Cabernet tight, herbaceous, tomato paste and mineral flavors. Very dark color. Brown spice with a bit of cedar with the dark fruit on the nose. There is a touch of bitterness that might be from heavy toast oak. Not overly fruity or complex.A bit grainy. Cranberry with charcoal on the finish

The cork on this one had lasted fairly well, with the top totally clean and the top half of the cork without any wine marking. It's an 03 bottling, and from a vintage that appears to have an average rating.

I've had several bottles of Lindemans from the 80s and 90s - the 00, 03 and 25 bottles scattered around various vintages. This 1990 03 (8003) - the image that comes to mind is a person in the retirement home, but still with some cheek and energy. The fruit has mostly faded and the midpalate is comprised mostly of sour cherry, with notes of star anise and leather, and finishes with earth and sour cherry. Clean wine, medium bodied, just the faintest burr on the midpalate.

What was interesting though, was that after consuming some Lebanese pickles, the fruit appeared to emerge! So, pairing this with something pickled works very well.

Just 11.5% ABV, which is wonderful. Enjoyed this wine a lot. One of those wines that most will find old and not enjoy though - avoid if your palate is used to younger wines.

A 2015 father's day gift to my dad, he's now serving my own wines back to me! 😄 Seriously though, I think it's a lovely thing to do when you're gifted wine to keep it to share with the giver.
Classic Cab, pleasingly mid-weight rather than overly big and ripe. Tart red currant fruit and dry, savoury tannins. A bit of fresh eucalypt but not green, no capsicum/pyrezine. A bit of cigarbox but it's still mostly primary. Really nice drinking now but also no rush if you want to see tertiary development in your Cabs.

Under the screw cap of joy, from beautifully sited vineyards within Coonawarra (possibly one of the flattest, most boring wine regions on earth, but nice juice) and a very hot, bushfire year. Lindemans always lavish a lot of care on their 3 top Coonawarra reds.

All the above yield some expected and some unexpected results.

The wine pours and drinks with remarkable freshness for a 15 year old wine from a bushfire year. The colour shows no obvious brick, the depth of colour is impressive and promises power that the wine delivers. A lot of this is down to the Stelvin seal, some to Coonawarra's ability to deliver relatively elegant Cabernet based wines with fresh acid.

The quality sites and care in winemaking show in the clarity of fruit - here we have a very potent core of essence of blackcurrant. This is much more prominent than I expected and is probably at least partly a function of the vintage. The vintage and the 14.5% ABV would make one expect a jammy element but that is not what I get.

The acid intrigues me. In Oz one is allowed to add acid and that is a possibility here, but I suspect it is from the fact that the last few weeks prior to vintage and vintage itself were marked by cool, dry weather after the blisteringly hot summer. That probably resulted in that core of essence of cassis and saved the grapes from losing acid structure.

The other elements are some mint, dark chocolate and a slight pencil shaving/smoky note. These wines always feature a strong oak presence, almost always well-handled and so it is here.

Easy to drink, yet somehow it does not quite click for me. The cassis is just a bit much, but on another day, I might notice the other elements more and so might another drinker. Clearly a high-quality wine that sits in the 'excellent' range and whether it is 90 or 93 or somewhere in between doesn't matter that much.
