2013 Meure's Wines Pinot Noir d'meure

Southern Tasmania more

Tasted blind - first guess sadly Tempranillo
The initial nose was characterised by raisins, apricots and caramel.
Then it became more complex
All the fruits of the Forrest but the apricot still lingers.

The initial pallet was hot, complex and mirrored the nose . With generous length and a lingering finish.

An exceptional 9 year old pinot drinking at its prime.

Vintage 2010 Tasting; 10/24/2020-10/25/2020 (Bronte, Sydney): brick red, a little cloudy
bright richly fruity nose, mixed berries, mineral spice, a barest hint of nutty oak, softly aged earthiness
silky smooth mouthfeel, gorgeous style, rolls along the palate like velvet. fruits on the darker side, a little earth and whole bunch complexity but these elements are very well integrated. An amazing wine from the southern most part of Australia.

Superb pinot, with a knockout nose of truffle, forest floor, cherry, and wet stone. In the mouth, gorgeous intensity, powdery tannins, marvellous modulated finish. Drinking perfectly now in the apex of full maturity, although there appears to be np hurry to drink this wine.

Grand Designs Reveal Week - Dinner #2 (Wedge House, Queensberry, Central Otago, New Zealand): Exotic Pinot with fine dimension, but a bit to much VA. Sweet, and pure varietal character, with a touch of funk that adds complexity. I liked the wine's balance, which was an outstanding example of cool climate pinot.A wine that follows its own path -I'm sad that the winery no longer exists.

Stunning, and a perfect example of Pinot Noir impressing on the nose alone. So pure, so refined, so perfect. The palate , while not at all French, was also beguiling, in a richer, more ripe style. The intensity and definition of the nose is a particular strength of this bottle. Drunk at its plateau, but this particular bottle could have certainly aged further. Stunning wine.

Drunk after the reserve, this came across as more rustic, far more raisiny and more obvious VA lift. This bottle felt a few years past it's peak, although it was in no way tired.

Developed, dark, raisins, lifted. Earthy cherry. Complex and mature, although less advanced than the regular cuvée. This is outstanding and serious, with the ripe characteristics well-controlled. Drinking well now.

Dark ruby translucent.
Burgundian nose. Uplifting. Cherry and spice.
Light fruit body represents the vintage. Intense smokey cherry, flavoursome, early mineral acidity refreshes and drives the palate towards the enjoyable finish.

First chance to try this cult natural wine from Birch Bay, Tasmania. Did not decant on sommelier's recommendation.

Nose of cola & cherry. After 5-10 minutes in glass one can see this is a very pure expression of pinot noir.
From reading wine reviews I did expect a more powerful wine, but perhaps this is the 2011 vintage speaking.

Light to medium body, unfiltered appearance with very light tannin in the background. Reminding me of a wine made by William Downie in 2011.

Texturally smooth & silky, accompanies the wood fired Abalone dish at Franklin quite beautifully.

50/70 Celebration for Marc and Bud (Ponsonby, Auckland, New Zealand): Absolutely outstanding Tassie pinot noir - the best example I have had. Ripe, earthy and slightly funk nose with a rich, involving palate and wonderful authority in the seamless finish. While this is clearly a new world wine, the level of complexity and involvement mark it out as an excellent wine. This will age for another five years, minimum - it is currently in very early maturity and I believe it has the requisite parts to improve further with age.

Tasmanian Wine Tasting 2013 (Oak Barrel, Elizabeth Street, Sydney): Volatile acidity - wood glue, caramalised oak and tiny, tiny hints of that Pinot Noir nose...in the mouth more VA and creamy notes that resolve harsh and bitter.

Wonderful Aussie chardonnay. Ripe apricots, meal, lifted oak and herbal elements. Ripe, rich, multi- dimensional with beautiful meal and oak nuances on the finish. Complex, round and really fun to drink. Beautiful balance for a big chardonnay - certainly the acid balance is in excellent harmony with the fruit weight and oak nuances. Prominent oak tannins on the finish add an impression of dryness and gives a bracing finish to the wine. I did not know what to expect with this wine due to its age but this wine is going strong. This reminds me and is a commensurate level to many Kistler chardonnays I have enjoyed in the past. Full marks to Dick Meure and his idyllic hectare of vines.
