2022 Ministry of Clouds Tempranillo Grenache

McLaren Vale Tempranillo Blend, Tempranillo more

3/13/2024 - WindFlyer Likes this wine: 91 points

medium ruby colour and medium body. notes of forest and wood waft along the black and red cherry and pomegranate fruits. dry and very structured in the mouth, with a bit of time and air it displays dense flavours of red and dark fruit infused with blood orange zest, leather, sandalwood, and violets. grippy tannins will need time to resolve, but have good acidic counterweight. moderate plus length.

recalls a modern-style Rioja…and should be amply rewarding in a couple to a handful of years.

14.3% AbV; blend of 79% Tempranillo from three different sites and 21% Grenache from old vines; fruit picked over a month resulted in eighteen (!!!) separate ferments; six-month ageing in a mix of concrete eggs, old French oak puncheons, and foudres.

dark ruby and medium body. very clean nose of blueberry and blackberry with gentle notes of anise and earth. dry and structured in the mouth, the fruit unfolds gently to moderate intensity that lets the mineral and spice veins flow with grace. bright acidity, ripe and firm tannins, and good length.

of a subtlety and elegance i don't associate with McLaren Vale, and with promising hints of complexity, this has very good upside potential in a couple of years or so.

14.3% AbV; fruit picked on four different passes from two sites that went into twelve different ferments; six months ageing on a mix of hogsheads, puncheons, demi muids, foudres, and a concrete egg.

3/13/2024 - WindFlyer Likes this wine: 91 points

translucent ruby colour in the glass and medium body. a gentle note of dust and whiff of pepper and flowers mingle with raspberry and cherry in the nose. in the mouth the fruit is pure and with enough intensity to wrap the spice and earthy notes. smooth and firm tannins that need a bit more time to integrate, bright acidic lift, and very good length.

feels more Spain than Rhone in style and should really come into its own in a couple of years. upside potential here.

14.7% AbV; from four sites with vines ranging from 80 to 100 years old (!!!); eight separate ferments, each with its own particulars, were ultimately basket pressed into old puncheons and inert vessels; only six months' ageing on old oak to preserve the varietal's freshness.

pale salmon and with a shy nose of strawberry and red apples accented with fresh garden herbs and a quasi-tropical whiff. dry, fresh and structured in the mouth, with zingy and crunchy red fruit laced with bitter herbs. good length with a clean raspberry note.

this can drink for a handful of years.

12.7% AbV; blend of 58% Mataro (Mourvèdre); 33% Cinsault; 9% Grenache; three-hours skin contact prior to pressing and co-fermentation; two-months' ageing on the lees.

pale straw and a slightly reductive nose with hints of oak along with the ripe pear, white peach and a bit of a ginger accent. silky and fresh in the mouth, it is somewhat layered in its unfolding and laced with fresh and pithy citrics. moderate length and hints of complexity.

12.5% AbV; fruit is no longer from Tasmania, but from Adelaide Hills; whole-cluster pressed for fermentation in French barriques (~35% new); some malo (~35%); nine-months' ageing on lees.

pale straw colour and very fresh nose of while melon and stonefruit laced with lime. the freshness carries on in the mouth, with bright acidity lifting the pear and melon fruit over a chalky base. herbal and subtle floral accents contribute some complexity and enhance the moderate citric persistence.

12.3% AbV; fruit harvested in several passes from two sites (90% Watervale); four months' ageing on the lees.

After recollections of a favourable tasting earlier this year I decided to pick up a bottle from a local bottle shop in Adelaide. Fresh and fleshy blue and black berry fruit has a touch of a jubey fruit lozenge quality, all of which translates to the palate which has a pleasing and persistent tannic rasp.

This is quite Iberian but quite McLaren Vale at the same time. Grenache dominates the nose with cherry and dark raspberry but there is a hint of cola as well from the temp. Savoury complex dark fruit and berries. Nice tannin and good finish. Lovely interesting drop. VVG.

Well integrated oak, and in such a perfect drinking place now - Still one of my favourite USD 30 whites, and pairs super well with Tim Sum dishes.

Welcome to KL, Mrs Q, my school teacher from "back in the day" (1990!) when I was a student in Singapore.

Light white flowers on the nose, with hints of nectarine too. Light chalky minerality on the medium finish, with great balanced acidity too.

2019 in Tasmania was such that there was first a cool start to the season, which warmed up significantly by spring. No frost events and flowering conditions were ideal, being warm and dry including the summer which was dry with no extreme heat spells.

Chardonnay yields were excellent and harvest was early, and the growing season was described as exceptional.

P: black currants, raspberries, vanilla, spices, banana peel, medium mouth feel and smooth to medium tannins, a medium finish

My first mencía and what a fun experience. I get a feeling of drinking a mix of a loire wine and a beaujolais. Not a serious wine but very food friendly.
