Unbalanced at first, but after an hour or so opener into a pretty nice structure. Classic big, dark fruit, medium tannin, and you definitely notice the alcohol. Good QPR.

Med+/ deep ruby. M (-) on nose of ripe dark red fruits: black cherry, raspberry.

dry, med alcohol at 13.5%, med tannins that were ripe and soft, med/med+ acid, med+ body, med intensity, med finish.

flavors of ripe dark red fruits like black cherry and black raspberry. good mouthfeel-- coats mouth. Good fruit purity/quality and a hint of smokiness. went very easily and easily drinkable/quaffable/ refreshing w shrimp and pork picadinho at a rustic snack bar in arco de calheta.

Blend of Tinto Roriz, Touriga Franca and Tinta barocca, and it tasted like a blend.

Straightforward, simple but done well.

very good QPR at EUR 10.

A pleasurable, well-made Douro wine, mainly made of Touriga Nacional completed with a dash of Touriga Franca, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Roriz and Alicante Bouschet. Aged for ten months in oak barrels. A deep ruby-red colored wine with intense aromas of blackberry, raspberry, dark chocolate and some hints of eucalyptus and cedar wood. The well-balanced palate offers a powerful wine with layers of luscious plum and black forest fruit, quite a smooth texture and present but well-integrated tannins. Harmonious aftertaste. The wine is already in a good drinking spot, but there is no hurry to drink. A whole lot of wine for the money.

A junior Chryseia in style but representing really good value at a quarter the price (bonus point).
Forward, for drinking over the next year or so.

In the nose the wine shows freshness, light, bright fresh red cherry, berry notes, floral notes, light spice notes, sour cherry. With time you get some herbal notes adding freshness.
The palate shows the same flavour profile, fresh, juicy tannins, elevated acidity, a bit warm (but could be because it’s the 1st red after the whites), light, easy, med finish

A few months since our last bottle. Good colour. A little slow to open but the complex nose developed with time in the glass with fragrant dark fruits and hints of vanilla from the part-oak treatment. The palate showed dark plums/damsons with some blackberries but the fruit was underscored by acidity and leathery tannins that verged on bitterness when first tasted and even 2-3 hours after opening.
However this quite muscular tannin, together with the prominent acidity, made for a good food wine. Food (meat-based) released some sweeter plum fruit. Some time after our meal, the late palate remained a bit of a disappointment without food, making it rather an acquired taste on its own, but it improved again with cheese (and time). I don’t know if it will improve with further cellaring.
80 when first opened; 85 on its own, later, but 88+ with food 4+ hours after opening.

Master class "Wines from the Douro and beyond" with Luis Carlos Fernandes of Symington Estates (Hochschule Geisenheim, Germany): Wine 4. 100% Touriga Nacional from a single vineyard. Dark ruby colour. Ripe, sweet red, blue and black fruit are joined by herbal notes, pine needle, spices, black tea leaf, and slate-like minerality. Good, medium to medium-plus acidity and high but round tannin. Good concentration. Lightly creamy texture. There is notable sweetness of fruit, but the wine finishes dry (not drying), with very good persistence. Still needs more time but should age well.

Picked up a bottle of this at Pedro Lemos' superb Douro Valley restaurant (Bomfim 1896), where I had first encountered it. It is a blend of 7 local varieties, most of them rather obscure, expect for the better know Albarino.

Served last night for dinner alongside a starter of Amberjack crudo, great pairing.

The wine, displaying a pale yellow hue, boasts a lovely minerally nose, with floral notes, honey and peach. Delightful and elegant. On the palate, the wine boasts a complexity well beyond its price point (27 Euro), balancing a delicate mineral backbone with subtle layers of dried fruit and perfect acidity.

A harmonious, elegant and complex effort, and amazing QPR. 90 points on the night, very impressed.

A year on from our last bottle and the wine has benefitted greatly from the extra time in bottle. Good, quite fragrant nose, dark fruits on the smooth palate and softer, better balanced tannins and acidity. Good on its own at this stage, and good with food.

Very pale colour,
Floral nose, rose petal, herbs, citrus, stone fruit,
Creamy texture, a little leesy, lean, citrus, some green herbal notes.
Quite nice wine. It has some character though I can't help thinking how much more fun this would be with a bit more skin contact and colour.
