From the first sips it had an interesting flavor on the finish - different, not bad. With a bit of time in the glass this fleshed out and presented an incredible mouthfeel and texture. Polished dark fruit with nice balance and integration. Kept getting better as we worked through the bottle. Big but not over extracted. Purplish red in color, deep and dark. |

This strutted its stuff with beautiful fruit and a melange of potpourri spice. Moved from a clear rim in the glass to a deeper purplish color at the core. Big flavors but not over extracted or overbearing. Great length and flavor profile. Extremely enjoyable…c’mon anytime you want Santa. I saved you a glass. Hell with the milk and cookies. |

This clearly has a long life ahead and I am glad I have a few bottles to experience that journey. Nicely integrated dark fruit with purple color and depth of flavor. Blackberry, black plum, mulberry and boysenberry. Good body and weight and although this is a big wine it maintained balance throughout. Some earth aspects to be harmonious with the fruit. A bit of underlying spice as well. |

Nice nose with a tinge of heat, but the palate is smooth and offers that wonderful combination of red berries and underlying terroir from this appellation. Tears stream down the sides of the glass. Great variation of color from a clear rim to light burgundy then to a deeper red in the center of the glass. Great mouthfeel with a little fine tannin on the back end. Aroma emerges more as well with a bit more time. Wren Hop and this appellation are a wonderful match. |

Between medium and full bodied (14.5% ABV) with black raspberry and black cherry both upfront and through the middle. Huge richness and depth through the middle. Tannins, acidity, tart blackfruit notes and lots of spices on the backside and finish. The spices struck out a bit and weren't quite as in balance with the fruit as they should be. Like with all Wren Hop pinots, there's a lot of power here, but the wine overall is more balanced than you might expect. There's enough structure on the backside to support the fruit and provide contrast so the mid-body in particular really shines. As noted, the spices are a bit prominent now, but I suspect that will improve with a little more time. Should drink well for several more years. |

Lemon, white orchard fruits and still a good amount of oak/vanilla on the nose. Medium bodied, maybe a touch beyond with mixed, white orchard fruits the dominant fruit note initially and then broadening through the middle. Supported with lots of citrus notes and good acidity behind and through the finish. The issue for me was the significant vanilla and oak notes that came through on the backside and through the finish. To my taste, they remain out of balance with the fruit and slightly overwhelm the citrus notes. I'd hoped with a bit more time, I'd see at least the beginning of a trend with these elements coming together. With the Wren Hop pinot noirs, they can be massive initially, but they always seem to come together so well with time. At least for this chardonnay, that doesn't seem to be the case. That said, while it might not be my preferred style, it's quite well made and if you enjoy the more oaked/vanilla/stereotypical CA style chard, this wine is showing quite well. |
