3/10/2024 - UMRich Likes this wine: 89 pointsVery light in color (more like dark rose). Good acidity and balance between tarter fruit and some earthiness. Worked well with split pea soup with ham hock and should be good with anything on that rich white/light red end of the pairing spectrum. |

1/28/2024 - UMRich Likes this wine: 98 pointsSad that it's the last of my 3. Decanted only 30 minutes, but kept blossoming as the night went on. Recommend at least 2 hour decant. Amazing with a filet in veal demiglace sauce and on its own after dinner. Each pour better than the last. No hurry to drink up, but fantastic now |

9/2/2023 - UMRich wrote: 88 pointsLike many others have posted on this wine, and like my own experience with many other Rhys wines, there were cork issues. Capsule protruding, cork soaked through but somehow still came out in one piece. A bit darker than it should be, but not amber/undrinkable like several other bottles I've had. |

8/2/2023 - UMRich Likes this wine: 93 pointsNow we're talking! Put my Rhys wines on accelerated drink list due to 3-4 bottles of chard and syrah having to be dumped down the sink due to premature oxidation due to flawed corks. With several recent Cellartracker reviews showing oxidation, I was not confident, but this one was finally a winner. Beautiful hue and aroma showed right away that this one would meet a much better fate. Clear and light gold, no hint of browning. Beautiful pear and stone fruit on the palate. Not enough to completely restore my faith, but very happy tonight. |

7/9/2023 - UMRich wrote: 87 pointsOpened right after dumping a 2010 Horseshoe (cork was mush; wine sour to the point of being undrinkable; I've also had terrible luck on my Rhys Chards with corks pushing out the capsules and wines badly oxidized). This one has a similar but less pronounced sourness than the 2010, which faded with air, turning into a nice savory N Rhone style Syrah, with just a bit too much tartness. Will drink my remaining bottle soon before it turns into the 2010. 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (2) |

7/9/2023 - UMRich wrote: flawedHave had several badly oxidized Rhys Chards (stored since release) with corks in terrible shape or protruding (not storage conditions; 600 bottles and Rhys bottlings are the only ones badly oxidized or with corks pushing the capsules up). This one protuded slightly, and crumbled when opening. Cork is mushy when squeezed. Wine was sour (word used very intentionally rather than tart). and undrinkable. The last 3 bottles I've poured down the sink were Rhys; have always loved their Syrahs til this one. Immediately opened a 2012 Horseshoe Syrah after dumping this one. Two years younger, but cork came out clean and was completely firm when squeezed vs. the mush of the 2010. Had similar sourness when first poured, but not nearly as pronounced, and got much better with air (very Northern Rhone character). Not the best Rhys Syrah I've had, but drinkable; won't wait long on my remaining 2012 in fear that the sourness when opened is a sign of where it's going. |

4/10/2023 - UMRich Likes this wine: 96 pointsOpened 2.5 hours before drinking, just poured a ounce or two to expose more area to air. Consistent with previous note. Dark and dense, but good balance of fruit and savory notes. Worked very well with roast leg of lamb, but tannins not too aggressive to enjoy on its own. |
