2009 Hermann J. Wiemer Dry RieslingFinger Lakes more |
3/5/2012 - Rgrusin wrote: 89 pointsPerhaps the first truly dry Riesling I've had. I was surprised you could lose so much sweetness but still be in unmistakenly Riesling. Dry and crisp, with lemon peel and green apple. Loved it with spicy Thai food, yet it wasn't cloying once the food was gone. |

2/26/2012 - Rgrusin wrote: 94 pointsEverything I love in a Napa cab. Decanted 2 hours. Full nose of dark berries, oak and dried herbs. On the palate, fruit forward yet tremendously balanced. Cassis, cherry compote, oak, leather and earth. Tannins are very present yet silky. Quite drinkable with enough air. Wish I had a case to watch its evolution. Alas, this is my one and only. |

1/28/2012 - Rgrusin wrote: 94 pointsA beautiful, well integrated syrah. Nose is full of jammy raspberry, black current, licorice and graphite. Palate is filled with smoke, earth, toasty oak and a range dark berries and dried fruits. Tannins are very present, yet round and well integrated showing clear potential for aging. Outstanding QPR. |

1/20/2012 - Rgrusin wrote: 87 pointsWild wine. Nose full of dark cherry, smoke and leather. Palate has the unmistakable flavor of a charcoal barbecue just ignited with lighter fuel. Yes, cherry, leather and chocolate are all there, but I can't shake the flavor of charcoal briquettes. Tannins are easy, soft and round. Overall, very interesting but I can't see drinking this with any frequency. |

1/16/2012 - Rgrusin wrote: 95 pointsLikely the best CA chard I've had the pleasure of drinking. Nose of lemon peel, oak, slight tropical fruits. On the palate, tremendous integration of fruit, oak, slight baking spices, perfect acidity and a very pleasing minerality. With all that, still very clean with a nice long palate. My new benchmark. |

11/4/2011 - Rgrusin wrote: 91 pointsI really like this. Dense, dark wine with nose of black cherry and smoke. Palate is deep yet fresh and well balanced. Black cherry, blackberry, slight cocoa and anise. Tannins are clearly present but soft and round. Excellent QPR and one of my new every day, go to wines. |

10/30/2011 - Rgrusin wrote: 90 pointsOriginally I panned this wine because of overwhelming tannins. This time I had it with a braised brisket. The rich meet led off the tannins so the rest of he wine got to shine. And shine it did with bright cherry flavors juxtaposed by oak, cocoa and plum. Again, with the right meal the alcohol seems well integrated and not overtly present. As an aperitif, this wine is a fail. Give it some air and enjoy it with a rich meat and you will be rewarded. |

9/22/2011 - Rgrusin wrote: 90 pointsFull nose of red berries with hints of herb, spice, vanilla and very slight licorice. On the palette, tart fruit followed by vanilla, slight oak, and spice on a racy, medium bodied frame. Nice, long finish. Drinking well now but will likely improve over the next year or two. |

9/11/2011 - Rgrusin wrote: 87 pointsSurprisingly pleasing nose right out of the cellar with fruit, vanilla and oak. On the palate this is a bit of a fruit bomb with grape, blueberry and cassis. The short, somewhat bitter finish is this wines primary weakness. Still, a decent drinker for the price. |

8/26/2011 - Rgrusin wrote: 86 pointsDisappointed. This is a big, hot syrah. While the bones are there with flavors of chocolate, licorice and coffee, these elements are poorly integrated leaving me feeling more like I'm being clubbed than caressed. And it's 14.9 booze hangs over this wine like a dense fog, getting in the way of any real enjoyment. Sadly, I thing time will only marginally help this wine. |
