5/16/2018 - dwmichel Likes this wine: 98 pointsAmazing purity after so long. Dried black cherries, maraschino, withered blueberry, dark chocolate, crushed violets, Asian five spice, cardamom, vanilla, oak, pencil shavings, light umami. Still so focused and great purity. A real privilege to try. |

10/15/2017 - dwmichel Does not like this wine: 92 pointsCuriously med- concentration of ruby red with a light blue hue. Honey-glazed and baked red apple, black cherry syrup, blackberry and huckleberry jam, black plum, almost brandy-like, dusty earth, geraniums, a bit of dill, chives, anise, and cracked black peppercorns. Almost off-dry. Big stuff with a big 16.3% abv. Not my preference, but if you like big, rich, slightly sweet, American wine, this is your guy. Zin aging potential is up for debate, but with how it is now, it has at least 5 years of lasting power. |

10/15/2017 - dwmichel Likes this wine: 92 pointsStarting to brown on the rim. Light flint, dried violets, a bit of umami on the nose. Dried cranberry, raspberry, bing cherry, dark cherry, light cloves, light vanilla. Quite nice and elegant. Drinking well now. |

10/15/2017 - dwmichel Likes this wine: 91 pointsBaked peach, ripe pineapple, stewed apricot, ripe cantaloupe, yellow apple, wet hay, wet forest floor, lemongrass, wet rye bread, mineral water, light botrytis. Med+ alcohol with some phenolic bitters. Needs at least 3 more years to fully develop. I couldn't keep my hands off! |

10/15/2017 - dwmichel wrote: 88 pointsIron, red flowers, black raspberry, black cherry, savory grilled thyme and rosemary, light cola. Med+ tangy acid that grips the front of the tongue. Very light and brisk peppercorns. No evidence of new oak, but still a bit creamy on the palate. Med- tannins, and med+ bodied. Still developing -- could use a few more years to see what happens. Nothing to rave about, though. |

2012 Philippe Colin Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les ChenevottesChardonnay more |
10/15/2017 - dwmichel Likes this wine: 95 pointsPear, lime blossom, light green apple, wet stones, slight peach and faint pineapple. Baking spices on the end and a long finish. Nice flinty oak mixes well with the minerals. Quite complex. Med+ alcohol but still well balanced. Drinking wonderfully now, I'd say this could hit peak maturity in 4 years and stick around for 10 more. |

10/15/2017 - dwmichel wrote: 92 pointsDried brown tobacco, graphite, dried plum paste, crushed violets, wet forest floor, wet gravel, damp oak, overripe raspberry, ripe dark cherry, overripe strawberry, light burnt caramel, smoked rosemary, and roasted venison fat. On the palate, tangy acid, integrated med+ tannins, and dried red fruits dominate. No need to decant. Fully matured now and will probably fade soon. |

1997 Fontanafredda Barolo Serralunga d'AlbaNebbiolo more |
10/15/2017 - dwmichel Likes this wine: 90 pointsDried black cherry, black raspberry, dried rose, light graphite, dusty earth, light tar, dried tomato leaf. Almost Brunello-like, but curiously more soft than an '88 that I had. Still good acidity and tannins are very fine and well integrated. I believe this is a bit after it's prime, but Fontafredda is consistent enough to rely on a good product from most years. Drink up! |

2011 M. Chapoutier Ermitage Blanc Le MéalHermitage Marsanne more |
11/5/2016 - dwmichel Likes this wine: 99 pointsThis is an intense hedonistic white wine that conjures an almost dystopian, ethereal, and psychedelic response. Burning motor oil and caramel-glazed white lilacs on the nose. On the palate, the purity of the fruit is astounding, with peach and apricot dominating. It's very fresh and floral. Touch of honey and beeswax caresses the palate near the end. Finish lasts long with smoke, stone fruits, and lilac dancing on your tongue. Medium to full-bodied. Unforgettable. |

2009 M. Chapoutier Ermitage Le MéalHermitage Syrah more |
11/5/2016 - dwmichel Likes this wine: 98 pointsSimply astounding. Racy, lively, crimson and growling. It exudes charcoal and fresh blackberry tart, weaving in licorice and cola notes near the end. The length is more than 2 minutes, and dances with crushed flowers, a bit of animal fat, black olive, and velvety black currant. The experience of this wine left me subdued. Will soar for 25 years or maybe more? |

11/5/2016 - dwmichel wrote: 97 pointsFeral, chewy, gamy, snarls on your nose. Plush on the palate with beef blood, ripe blackberry, stone and purple flowers. Quite grippy tannins, but doesn't compromise the wine. Blue and black fruits with so much focus and purity. Creeping smoke and colorful spice box dances on the palate for more than a minute. This one will haunt me. Drinking amazingly now, but this beast has 20+ years ahead in its life. |

11/5/2016 - dwmichel Likes this wine: 96 pointsStunningly beautiful and seamlessly integrated. Classic ripe blackberry fruits, cocoa, dark chocolate, spicy oak... what can I say that hasn't been said? This still has a decade or even two of maturity. |

11/5/2016 - dwmichel Likes this wine: 95 pointsMassive and unforgiving, brooding with blood and iron, velvet and leather. This is a stunning beauty. Like a meaty Cornas, this will mature well for 5-10 years and then die out. |

12/15/2016 - dwmichel Likes this wine: 95 pointsDeep cigar box and crushed violets on the nose. Medium-bodied blackberry, thyme, cloves, and then black currant and minerals on the back. Very fine chalky tannins at the end. Starting to thin on the fruit -- I'd drink up! |

3/11/2017 - dwmichel Likes this wine: 97 pointsSumptuous and opulent, the fruit and floral notes interchange gracefully on the tongue for what seems like minutes. Ripe dark berries, mixed blonde and brown tobaccos, tree bark, fresh orange peel, and mixed rose and white flowers. Powerful without over-powering, delivers great purity, and sustains amazing length. |

3/11/2017 - dwmichel Likes this wine: 98 points100% Sangiovese, I could have sworn it was mixed with other varietals. Great purity and focus, with linear notes of blueberry, blackberry, black currants, cedar, with fine tannins and very good length. Just a touch of brine and citrus near the end. Gorgeous and succulent. Bordeaux-like. Excited to try this in 5-10 years. |

7/13/2017 - dwmichel Likes this wine: 92 pointsHazy burgundy and slight ruby core on the eye. Red wild flowers, dried raspberry, dried black cherry, dried tomato, old saddle leather, tree sap, cinnamon, and paprika. Tangy, med+ acidity. The fruit is clearly subdued, but I'd say it still has 5-10 more years on it. Still kickin! |

7/6/2017 - dwmichel Does not like this wine: 88 pointsStewed plum, overripe blackberry, blueberry pie, roasted game, cooked sugar beets, smoked rosemary, pen ink, black licorice, eucalyptus, crushed wet rock, violets, and almost no pepper. Big juice. Med+ to hi intensity on the nose. On the off-dry side with fine grained med+ tannins, and slightly hot alcohol. 14.5% abv. This should stick around for 10 more years of development. 7/13/2017 - dwmichel Likes this wine: 93 pointsLemon bar, apricot, orange blossom, juicy peach, light rosewater and lavender. Light caramel, vanilla bean are strong on the nose. Light whipped cream and lemon mouse mixed with peach on the palate. Very clean and pure. 8 months in cuvée and barrels, I'm guessing partial new oak due to all the vanilla and mousse. Ready now, but can last for 5+ more years. 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

On the palate, high tangy acid, med+ alcohol, high tannins that remind one of biting into a crabapple. Medium-bodied, classically styled Barbaresco. 3-5 years will provide maturity. |
