5/6/2024 - Kloseframe Likes this wine: 92 pointsSurprisingly good! Still lots of life in the bottle. Good, long finish. I get lots of cherry and red fruit. |

2011 Peay Vineyards Pinot Noir Scallop Shelf EstateSonoma Coast more |
5/4/2024 - Kloseframe Likes this wine: 93 pointsWonderful balance and long finish. This seems to be in a sweet spot. Some fruit, but some secondary notes too. Still very tensile and alive. I don't see it declining anytime soon, but also can't imagine it would get much better. This is another data point that supports Scallop Shelf as my favorite Peay wine. |

5/3/2024 - Kloseframe Likes this wine: NR"evolved" is right! I liked this better on night 2, actually. But for what it is - an aged chardonnay - it's pretty good! |

4/29/2024 - Kloseframe Likes this wine: NRThis is still very much alive. A little pruney on opening, but that settled over the evening. Give it a few hours decant. On night two, quite a bit more acid. This honestly tastes about 10 years younger than it is. As is often the case with these, you just have to give them a bit of air. Last sip is often the best. |

2015 Arnot-Roberts Chardonnay Trout Gulch VineyardSanta Cruz Mountains more |
4/29/2024 - Kloseframe Likes this wine: 93 pointsThis is really excellent with a little age. The young TG wines are often a bit tight - though outstanding. It's great to see how this unfurls after a few more years in bottle. Drink now, if you like, but it's not fading or anything. |

2015 Whitcraft Winery Pinot Noir Presqu'ile VineyardSanta Maria Valley more |
4/23/2024 - Kloseframe Likes this wine: NRThis had excellent fruit! Very red-berried. This gained weight as it opened. Really easy drinking and delicious. No complaints. No rush. |

2017 Porter Creek Old Vine CarignaneMendocino County more |
4/10/2024 - Kloseframe Likes this wine: 92 pointsThis was wonderful. I converted to Porter Creek after a wonderful visit to the winery in the Fall (also with Jonathan as another reviewer mentioned). This carignane was one of my least favorite of the tasting, but that should only underscore how good their other wines are. This has a great balance of fruit and tannin. I don't have much experience with the aging curve of carignane, but this seems like it can keep going. |

3/25/2024 - Kloseframe Likes this wine: 92 pointsExpensive? Yes. Delicious? Also yes. This was all about the citrus for me. There was lots of lemon, balanced with some real depth. It might have even been best on night 3. I really loved it and will look for a good deal on more bottles. |

3/24/2024 - Kloseframe Likes this wine: NRThis was still drinking great! It took 30-40 minutes to open up, but was really fresh and lively after that. |

3/17/2024 - Kloseframe Likes this wine: NRFirst of two bottles. This was best after a little air. It's not the best '85 I've had, but it was lovely and definitely worth seeking out. |

1995 Joseph Swan Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Steiner VineyardSonoma Mountain more |
3/17/2024 - Kloseframe Likes this wine: 95 pointsWow. Purchased from the winery direct in 2023. This was outstanding. Of course they are known for the zins and pinots, but for me, man does Swan do wonders with cab too. Until now, I'd only ever had the Trenton Estate cab, but this Steiner one was nearly perfect. Delicious mountain fruit (and still fruity at 29 years!), a lovely acidity runs through it. My only complaint is that the finish is relatively short -- long, I would say, in general, but short for Swan and given how balanced and full-flavored this wine is otherwise. I'd call it a medium finish where, if it had been a longer finish it would be a 98-100. Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Comments (2) |

2004 Simon Bize Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Aux VergelessesPinot Noir more |
3/17/2024 - Kloseframe Likes this wine: 93 pointsI agree with the previous notes in terms of flavor profile. This was pretty dry on night one, which I often find with Bize wines, but was completely resolved on night two. I got a good mix of fruit and earth. Before this, I had only had Bize wines with about 5-7 years and with about 30 years, but nothing in this 10-20 year window. I often found the 5-7 too young and the 30 too old, so this seemed in the right window for my palette. |

2003 Vincent Dauvissat (René & Vincent) Chablis 1er Cru SéchetChardonnay more |
3/17/2024 - Kloseframe Likes this wine: 92 pointsI loved this. It was a little less crisp and fresh than I am used to or might look for in a Chablis - especially Dauvissat - but it made up for that in richness and complexity. The prices for these things has gotten wild, but will worth what I paid for it. |

2019 Ultramarine Blanc de Blancs Keefer Ranch Sonoma CoastChardonnay more |
3/17/2024 - Kloseframe Likes this wine: 91 pointsThis really hit the spot for the first days of Spring. I'm not the biggest sparkling wine drinker, but I like the freshness of this wine. I have three bottles, so I'll probably sit on the other two for a bit. Glad to try one of these young, though. |

2014 Scherrer Winery SyrahRussian River Valley more |
3/1/2024 - Kloseframe Likes this wine: 92 pointsThis is drinking great, as expected. Fully resolved, still full of life. I am sure it'll age longer, as these do, but glad I opened it tonight. |

2013 Joseph Swan Vineyards Pinot Noir Great Oak VineyardRussian River Valley more |
2/24/2024 - Kloseframe Likes this wine: NRI thought this was drinking really well tonight. Pretty light - in general, and for Great Oak in particular. This had some lovely orange peel flavors that kept me coming back to the glass. I wish I had one or two more - I wouldn't necessarily hold for long, but I'd love to drink a bit more of this. 2018 Evening Land Vineyards Pinot Noir Seven Springs VineyardEola - Amity Hills more |
2/18/2024 - Kloseframe Likes this wine: NRDrinking well. Clean and bright. I could see it improving a bit more over time, but probably not by much. This is right in a sweet spot for me. Incredibly drinkable. This is always a great buy for the price. |

2017 Domaine Roblet-Monnot Pommard Chanlin-HautPinot Noir more |
2/11/2024 - Kloseframe Likes this wine: NRThis was good out of the gate, but best on night three. I don't really have enough Pommard experience to compare this to others, but I really enjoyed it and would buy more. The tannins are softer than I was expecting, but still present, of course. Probably best to age a bit, but this wasn't unbearably tight or dry at this point. |

2011 Cayuse Syrah En Chamberlin VineyardWalla Walla Valley more |
1/15/2024 - Kloseframe Likes this wine: 94 pointsThis one lingers - long and memorable finish. On day 2, when I opened the cork, I smelled it and immediately remembered the taste from the night before. This is so earthy and sappy. By now, on Day 3, the funk is completely integrated and there is just outstanding dark fruits, rocks, some smoke and meat. This is my first real Cayuse experience (I've had the No Girls wines) and I have to say, I get it! |

1/4/2024 - Kloseframe Likes this wine: 93 pointsWow. Not what I expected. This had all the aromatic elements of gewurtz, but felt a bit more lifted and high-toned. I really loved it. It changed in the glass every few minutes. Very complex. I'd love to drink more of these. |
