Super bretty. Overpowers all other nuance unfortunately. Did seem to also fade very quickly.

Not great. Fruit looks mushroomy, it really highlights the worst of the vintage. Save your money.

I’m finding this difficult to articulate. To call it the best wine I’ve tried from the Macon is selling it short. My best comparison is that it looks like a very, very good Meursault 1er if you need some context. Jeremy H mentions Coche below but my first thought was Lafon. Really delicious either way and has me rethinking Macon in general.

Solid. Pretty chewy and chalky textually but still quite nicely defined. Lemony with lots of drive and length. Always an intriguing wine.

2018 Henschke Shiraz Mount Edelstone

Eden Valley more

5/12/2023 - Luke Wine Likes this wine: NR

After the 18’ HOG definitely the best of the 18’ reds from Henschke. Darkly fruited and quite precise. Well crafted and quite finely etched . It’s very good but it’s not super exciting.

2018 Henschke Shiraz Hill of Grace

Eden Valley more

5/12/2023 - Luke Wine Likes this wine: NR

Great rendition of an Oz classic. Interesting to taste as part of a set of new vintages - it’s very, very obviously the best of the 18’s from Henschke. It’s the only wine in the line up that has an exotic Asian 5 spice almost star anise type vibe to go with all the dark fruit and berries. It’s also the only wine that has a sense of effortlessness and elegance . Best young HOG I can remember.

21’ Disgorgement. Just superb. My favourite Champagne. I’ll admit it’s not a beginners wine but hopefully anyone who has a serious interest in wine has an opportunity to see an Egly BdNoir at its best at some stage in their wine journey. Joyous.

2020 Arianna Occhipinti Il Frappato

Terre Siciliane more

1/19/2023 - Luke Wine Likes this wine: NR

I’ve seen some good and bad Occhipinti Frappato’s over the years, here’s one that I liked very much. Great energy, some flashes of Brett but it doesn’t dominate the narrative. Light bodied, complex and enjoyably hard to pin down. Worth a bit of time and contemplation.

Chianti Classico DOCG Sangiovese Blend, Sangiovese more

1/19/2023 - Luke Wine Likes this wine: NR

I love this. If you like Sangiovese find this and buy it. One of the few (comparatively) well priced examples of a top tier grower from Italy that you can find relatively easily and still afford.

Surprise surprise! Some 13’s seem to be open for business, more than the 10’s in some cases. This was just gorgeous. Perfumed, really superb balance and smoked a 13’ Chiara Boschis Via Nuova today.

1945 Château Latour Grand Vin

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend more

11/16/2022 - Luke Wine Likes this wine: NR

Amazing and interesting wine to taste. This bottle still had some life and detail but was certainly past it’s best. Still a wonderful treat to taste and remarkable for its age. Love to see another one to compare but I highly doubt I’ll have the opportunity.

Lovely. Really nice poise, perfumed and delicious. Have not tried a Cos for a while and this reminded me how much I like the producer. Not a big wine at all, quite medium bodied and fine.

2005 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Richebourg

Richebourg Grand Cru Pinot Noir more

11/16/2022 - Luke Wine wrote: NR

No one seems to want to admit it (because we all paid so much money for the wines) but there is an issue with Brettanomyces in many of the wines in 2005 from DRC. I’ve now seen a Richebourg, a couple of RSV’s and a La Tache that all have the pox. Honestly I wouldn’t open anymore 05’s if you hate Brett in your wine, send them off to auction and reinvest in the cooler vintages where Brett seems to be less of an issue from this producer.

2017 Pierre-Marie Chermette Moulin-à-Vent Les Trois Roches

Gamay more

1/10/2022 - Luke Wine Likes this wine: NR

Really lovely. Lifted red fruit + spice. Medium bodied, pure w/ some red fruits and a fine mineral finish. Finely etched tannin, acidity keeps it fresh and reaching for another glass. Elegant and very drinkable Moulin a Vent here just coming into it's drinking window.

2018 Faiveley Mercurey 1er Cru Clos du Roy

Pinot Noir more

6/24/2021 - Luke Wine wrote: NR

Chunky + oaky, feels overworked. Rustic feel to the tannin. A bit short on Charm. I've never seen a Faiveley Clos du Roy improve with time in the bottle. Used to be a bit of a bargain at least but it's not really cheap anymore.

2011 Domaine Roulot Meursault Les Tessons Clos de Mon Plaisir

Chardonnay more

6/24/2021 - Luke Wine Likes this wine: NR

Smoking. Love Roulot 11's, in a really nice spot here. Still got plenty of energy and life, rich with lot's of mineral cut. Seen a few good Roulot's of late from 14' + 11', seems like that period that might have been a bit of a high water mark for the producer. Personally I find you need to be a bit more cautious with what you buy here of late.

2014 François Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru Les Forêts

Chardonnay more

6/24/2021 - Luke Wine wrote: NR

This might be an unpopular opinion considering there is so many Raveneau disciples out there but I didn't think this was very good at all. The detail and intensity and energy is just not there with this wine, it seems to be a bit of a trend with wines from this producer over the last few vintages... I can't really see how this will improve at all from here.

6/22/2021 - Luke Wine wrote: NR

This is the second time I've tried this wine in the last couple of years, it's certainly dark, structured and powerful but it's overshadowed by all the brett in this wine. It's really difficult to focus on anything other than the brett here, it just get's worse with time and air. A shame.

2017 Domaine Ponsot Morey St. Denis Cuvée des Grives

Pinot Noir more

6/22/2021 - Luke Wine Likes this wine: NR

Yet another delicious village wine from 17'. Red fruited and perfumed, nice energy, quite trim & almost a bit pinched on opening but with a little air opened up into a really delicious and quite expansive MSD. Lovely stony minerality on the finish as well. Expensive yes but what a delicious village Morey. Based on how it blossomed with being opened I'd be confident this will improve over the short/mid term.

Rustic + chunky village Gevrey here. Looking quite developed for the vintage. More cellaring will make it old, rustic and chunky village Gevrey. I'd be drinking this up while it still has a tiny bit of youth on its side. At least it's relatively well priced.

2005 Frerejean Freres Champagne Premier Cru Cuvée Hussards Vieilles Vignes Blanc Blancs Brut

Chardonnay more

5/31/2021 - Luke Wine Does not like this wine: NR

I really don't like this. No real terroir expression here at all. Has high acidity but looks tired. Has that under ripe / over cropped feel to the acidity that makes it very difficult to drink. Ridiculously overpriced. Honestly an entry level Pierre Peters or Larmandier Bernier cuvee would completely blow this away.

I just love Bruno Clair more and more these days. Just delicious little village Vosne, really perfectly poised and balanced, super fine tannin and such lovely perfume. Made a 15' Lignier look so rustic in comparison. Glad I checked in here now, another charming little village red from 17'. Will cellar beautifully from here.

Fresh + still coiled, powerful and richly textured. Unmistakeably Corton Charlemagne. Liked this a lot particularly with some air and with some food. Not especially refined but impressive. Had a touch more gold to the colour than I expected so might be worth checking in on again soon.

2014 Domaine Roulot Bourgogne Blanc

Chardonnay more

5/30/2021 - Luke Wine Likes this wine: NR

Good stuff, probably not going to improve much from here but will hold. Nice focus, freshness + some flinty, smoky sulphide. Delicious little B Blanc. I feel like the recent releases of Bourgogne Blanc have been disappointing from Roulot so I was very happy to see this in such a good spot. It's not as some people are suggesting of 1er quality but it's certainly top Bourgogne Blanc.
