Matured and enjoyable tannins, dry, medium acidity. It paired very well with meat lasagna. Despite, or perhaps because of, the high tannins and a bit of age, it was a very pleasant sipping wine , too.

Paired with roasted lamb and vegetables very well. This wine needs food even though I sipped it right after opening the bottle. Balanced tannins (for me), dark berry on the finish, medium acidic.
It is time to enjoy, may last for a couple of more years.

Unremarkably pleasant post dinner, solo.

It wants me to expect honeysuckle sweetness which isn’t there. Individual aromas are hidden, but a well-balanced bouquet is very pleasing.

It is surprisingly pleasing on the dry side for a forgotten bottle Cellar Tracker flagged for me. Medium-high tannins, hidden sour plums, hint of cherry, waiting for lasagna.

Sweet, plums, dark berries. It was mildly volatile with sweet bouquet after opening. It improved little after decanting for an hour or two. It went down the hill rapidly

Paired well with lightly spiced Salmon, was somewhat lost nonetheless. This is not an assertive wine, but finish is quite pleasing. I’d say it is balanced but subdued. Light bitterness is showing up without being bothersome; on the contrary, I like it.

Wife says “table wine”, pairs well with pan-fried polenta.

Cardamom, dark cherry, dense, full-bodied, medium-low tannins, medium-high acidity. While Malbec is down the list of wines I prefer, this bottle was enjoyable.

Warning: drink this wine within a year. While acidity is still there, aromas dissipated since I last had it (last year?) nose is still great, even my wife liked it. I wonder if acidity is a little over the top.

Nose: closed, hidden cherries
Palate (paired with pasta, Mediterranean seasonings, vegetables, chicken, and fresh parsley combo): flat and balanced with medium acidity showing. Green apples. Medium tannins. I’d not having as a sipping wine: too much for that. Without any sauce other than olive oil, there is an interesting balancing with the pasta dish: very good pairing. My rating is based on this pairing, not solo (would have knocked off a few points).

Second day. Aromas are more visible as expected. Tannins are better fit for my taste (somewhat elevated but still balanced). Food pairing still works. I’ll buy it again either as a cellar defender/daily enjoyment.

2012 Reininger Syrah Helix

Columbia Valley more

4/18/2021 - tolginator Likes this wine: 86 points

No decanting. Nose is rather harsh, subdued nuts, hint of floral sweetness. Palate is medium high acidic, medium tannins for Syrah. I would have said balanced tannins if it were less acidic, less volatile. While I don’t detect TCA, there is a hint of cork.

After sitting for an hour or so, the volatility is tamed. Still, it is underwhelming. It paired ok with roast beef and mashed potatoes, didn’t make me say wow. Perhaps, I had high expectations, but I’d look for other Syrah bottles

2019 Cocobon Chardonnay Roasted Oak

4/2/2021 - tolginator Likes this wine: 88 points

Nose: sweet, aromatic with hint of honey and citrus, a bit overwhelming bouquet of orange zest.
Palate: citrus zest on the bitter side, medium acidic, medium oaky, almost unctuous but pleasingly so. Peach is suppressed by citrus.
Second day (sealed overnight): Citrus is more reasonable (read: better) to the extent that it drinks like a medium-high acidic Chardonnay. Oakiness is still there, butteriness is slightly reduced but still showing quite well.

Nose: (right after opening) subdued cherry, cinnamon bark, either closed or weak.
Palate (right after opening) medium tannins, sour cherry, citrus zest, low aromatics, carnation.

Will update for food pairing and after breathing a bit.

30 min. Velvety bouquet traces with balanced tannins, plums, chocolate (scratch that) cocoa, medium and a pleasant finish. Tannins became more visible enough to say above medium but not disturbing (well, depending on your tannin perception)

This is unexpected: it pairs very well with raita on garlic naan.

8/15/2020 - tolginator Likes this wine: 91 points

Nose: Slightly peppery, but pleasingly so.
Palate; bouquet of tart fruits, balanced tannins, over medium acidity, a slight bitter aftertastes as in chewing on pea shells that lingers on for a while. It is a very pleasing sipping wine. I’ll come back and update after the pot roast cooking how the pairing is.

One of my cellar defenders, didn’t expect whole a lot, definitely received more than I thought I’d get.

Edit: a combination of pot roast with sauce over pasta (a bit vinegary sauce). Pasta and sauce pairing: meh. Just beef: much better. As expected, the vinegar sauce killed the wine. Just the pot roast paired well.
