Red fruit leads on the attack with laser like delineation followed by the spice elements before silky fruit comes back on the finish. Nose is gorgeous with tomato leaf, leather, tobacco, terracotta and spiced cherry - nice balance of earthiness and purity. Good initial intensity on the palate with some orange peel joining the mix but a bitter streak comes in quite early in the mid palate which then thins out. Initially the palate doesn’t deliver as much as the nose promises but with time and air things improve greatly and it starts to hang together with richer chocolate flavours. Supposedly 50% Sangiovese from the 2016 vintage (amongst others). Gorgeous nose of perfumed spiced plum, bright cherry, mint and thyme. Tangy spicy palate with a really lovely sapid streak. The palate has really intense red cherry and tomato with a delicious lift of acidity to the very long finish. Tannins approachable now. Wonderful balance of intensity and delicacy. More depth on the palate with the florals coming more to the fore and more complexity to the citrus peel. Reasonably silky mouthfeel but acidity keeps it all nicely in check. Nose is everything I’d want sweet cherry, distinct tomato leaf, dry terracotta, and a a little mint and sottobosco. Palate s but more restrained than the nose on the attack but broadens out delivery the aromas from the nose with some cough linctus and a little oolong tea too. Good lick of acidity and tannins still showing themselves. While the finish is perhaps a little shorter than optimal there is a good refreshing quality to this but perhaps that’s my wine starved tastebuds speaking. Nose had sapid cherry and leather - decently balanced primary and tertiary. On the palate fresh dark cherry, but a sapid tang, a little mint, very refreshing.
