Third bottle from a half case purchased from the German importer in 2016. This has always been a very impressive wine, and after sixteen years it is at a beautiful stage of energetic maturity. Expresses its flawless typicity with a certain subtlety, the power and weight (14.5% ABV) are buffered effortlessly by life-sustaining acidity and minerality, tannins are all but resolved, the finish displays excellent resonance and length. Not as spectacular as it once was, but it has gained considerably in finesse. Drinking well with no end in sight.

This was excellent and shows what barbera can do. Nose has quite pure plum and some some mint. Tasty palate with blackcurrant, mint again and acidity has softened with time but all holds together. Classy.

North & Central Italy offline (Terra Rossa, London N1): Old books, a hint of cedar, and red fruit on the nose. Good purity of fruit which has held up very well. Middle aged but in very good shape and unlikely to begin a descent any time soon as held together well by the acidity.

North & Central Italy (Terra Rossa): Super distinctive: cape gooseberry, pulpy tomato, fresh blood orange - it has an incredible sweet vegetal tang. Deep red fruit on the palate, nicely resolved tannins and juicy acidity. Really excellent length - and it hides its 14.5% very well.

Fairly full, red fruits, still really fresh, the acidity carries this through nicely, good wine, great at the asking price a decade ago but todays pricing spooks a bit stiff
