1971 Château Lafite Rothschild

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend more

No fruit. Like drinking an old, red chair. Graphite, cinnamon, and sun burnt summer tea leaves.

This bottle was already too old when I was given it, and I waited until I had to move to drink it.

So much charcoal, so much fruit; an 1890s coal miner breakdancing after work.

Tannins softer than mineral water, and a distinct note of moist forest floor and fiddlehead ferns. A little black raspberry cola and blood orange zest on the finish if you let your imagination run wild, but not really and honestly not really necessary.

It's pairing nicely with a hamburger and french fries from the bodega.

Not even kidding.

I'm moving so all my pots and pans are packed and I'm trying to make it through the last of the Eurocave... unlike the gentleman who owned the collection before me.

Christmas pine and black pepper on the nose. Soft slightly bitter black plum skins a on the palate. The first sip was magic, but the second glass now tastes like someone 3D printed well-aged fancy Bordeaux- it's just lacking in soul.

Unbelievably, not ready to drink yet. It's still filled with graphite and black cherry skin tannin. Cedar on the nose and finish. It's been breathing for an hour and it's still tight.

Opened a bottle immediately when I bought it (2010?), and it showed very poorly (80? Maybe 75? It was all water and tannin). Now though it is like drinking freshly picked blackberries dusted with sage, celery seed, and cracked black pepper.

There was a while when this was my favorite bottle of wine, but it's too old now and all the tropical fun is gone so it's just salty, barrel-aged apple juice that tastes too much like my life.

But seriously, I hope Kurt is doing great.

Extremely happy it held up- woodsy, unwashed raspberries and plum skin aerosol... even the sediment was soft now; very well "stewed" fruit. It was days away from the cork giving away.

Black cherries, tar, blood oranges. 10 or 15 years too old, but still pretty lovely after letting the sediment settle.

Really want to add to that, but just that it lasted that long made it fun for everyone.

Perfect blend of old world and new world styles.

Burnt dandelion on the nose to start and dirty black cherries after that... decently long finish.

With an hour of breathing much more of an oily black olive and and plum skin experience.

2015 Palacios Remondo Rioja La Montesa

Grenache Blend, Grenache more

7/26/2019 - Cole Likes this wine: 92 points

Either the best Rioja or the worst Rioja depending on if it not tasting at all like Rioja makes you upset. Heavy on Garnacha, and barely a food wine.

Soft, almost jammy with roasted vanilla all over. Extremely fine tannin.
