2019 Baiting Hollow Farm Vineyard Pink Satin

North Fork Rosé Blend more

North Fork Wines (Washington, DC): Pale salmon color. Nose pops with white cherries and strawberries, along with notes of honeysuckle, mint and orange blossom. Crisp acidity, moderate but balanced sugar adds some creaminess and sweetness, but it stays refreshing. Notes of tangy strawberries and juicy cherries, with some nice tea, white pepper and floral perfume tones. A nice salty kick on the finish as well. Melot, Cab Franc and Cab Sauv.

A clean Cabernet Sauvignon with varietal flavors and aromas but kind of lean and minty. Nothing terribly wrong here, but it isn’t a wine I would normally drink. Still, better than a lot of inexpensive wines on the shelves these days.

Blend of 70% merlot and 30% cab franc, and "can be kept for five to seven years or more," according to the bottle. Well, at 10 years, it's drinking mighty nicely for my palate; in fact, I'm on a little run here of Long Island wines that are probably past the expected prime, but are really shining with some age. Might be time for another trip up soon.

Anyway, medium brickish garnet in color. Aromas of potting soil, funk, dried red fruits, potpourri, tobacco, black tea, old attic, cedar, green bell pepper, basil, and lemon. Fantastic aromatics. Medium body, medium(+) acid and finish, resolved tannins, luscious texture, and flavors of darker red fruits, orange and lemon peel, a dry, leathery tea like component, and a touch of minerality. Smooth, complex, and delicious. I'm guessing this was probably an 88-89 pt. wine (to me) in "it's prime," but it is rocking today and easily 91 pts. in my book.

Bouquet of red and blue fruits. This was my (and Jerry's) favorite of the Baiting Hollow wines. Firm tannins that should soften and resolve with time but well integrated at this point. On the palate, red and blue fruits, slight spices and oak. Well made blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Long finish. (C#1; D#2; J#1)

Big nose of dark fruits and oak. Tannins gripping, needs more time to resolve? Ripe red and dark fruit flavors, subtle smoke. Medium body. This was my 2nd favorite wine from this winery. (Doris: caramel flavors. Jerry: Did not like) (C#2)

Tasted this at the vineyard; this was – by far – my favorite of their reds. Blend of 70% Cab. Franc, 25% Merlot, and 5% Cab. Sauvignon. Light-to-medium bodied. Red berries, cherry, and spice flavors. Quite mellow. An excellent value in North Fork wine. This makes for a great everyday wine.
