Being totally crazy about Champagne, I have a biased opinion when it comes to other sparklings. It's well made but too acidic for me (blend of chardonnay and riesling) and the fact that it's an Extra-Brut doesn't help.
As an alternative, we've finished it as a cocktail, associated with a blackberry liqueur (kind of Kir Royal!)

Pale lemon colour. Small and lovely bubbles. Medium and developing nose with green apples, lemon, yeast and bread dough. Medium taste of green apples, lemon, yeast and bread dough. Medium long and dry finish. High acidity. Medium body. A good Cremant that lacks some complexity. Drink now. Goes well as an aperitif, or with shellfish.

Pleasant and more ripe and floral than I expected for Chenin Blanc. Prominent toasty autolytic aromas. On the sweeter side of brut, probably 12 g/L. Good QPR.

This was a surprisingly good sparkling wine. It was fruity, lively and freshly acidic, providing nice notes of e.g. apple and lemon.

Maturity with Respect to Ageing: This wine, while approachable now for its fresh fruit and balance, has the potential to develop further nuances with additional cellaring over the next 3-5 years.

Food and Wine Pairing: Ideal with dishes that echo its earthy and fruity tones, such as duck, pork tenderloin, or mushroom risotto. Its acidity also makes it a good match for salmon or other fatty fish.

La Crema Pinot Noir is based in Sonoma County, but they make several Pinots from grapes from the Monterey and Sonoma regions of California. And they recently introduced a new one from Willamette Valley in Oregon. But we didn’t review the new one. Instead, we sampled their Monterey Pinot, which is one of their older offerings.

The color of this La Crema Pinot Noir Willamette Valley is much truer to what you’d expect from a California Pinot. It is translucent and garnet red in color. The aroma of La Crema is very earthy. It smells almost untamed and has a subtle skunk note that’s hard to ignore. Many wine lovers actually prefer this quality in a wine, which is called animal or savauge in France. The La Crema doesn’t have much fruit in its aroma.

My rookie evaluation of any sparkling wine is whether it tastes substantially different than your standard $10 bottle of Prosecco. This did not, so was not worth the extra cash. One note, nothing special, not even remotely close to Champagne quality.

Pale yellow hue. Aromas of apple, cream, minerals, peach, vanilla. Medium body and plus acid. A little astringent, but with a refreshing finish. An otherwise solid California chardonnay.

Pop and pour. Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Gamay, and Aligoté made according to the traditional method.

Bright straw/pale yellow in the glass. Nose of lemon zest, a bit of creaminess, and ripe pineapple. On the palate it’s incredibly bright with lemon, tart green apple, and white peach. Decent creaminess, a bit of the brioche/nutty note. It’s dry, medium bodied, high acidity, and has a short minerally finish. Bubbles are very fine.

It’s good even if it’s unidimensional.

Really quite good QPR. This one did not seem to have the generic rose flavors about it like you can sometimes get with these types of wines. The bubbles were strong, small to medium sized, great density with strawberry and mango and guava notes that seem to be everywhere. Refreshing and crisp.

Very fruity and with a hint to spice. It is young so tastes similar to a Gamay. Tannins are very mild, to non existent.

Great wine to start off the evening before going on to heavier Barolos. A fun wine.

Brick red in complexion with aromas of oak, vanilla, raspberry, cherry and pepper. Light to medium body, characterized by medium low acidity and well integrated tannins. An easy drinking Pinot that isn’t overly complicated but has a smooth finish. Drink now or can last for a few years.
