Lifted raspberry aromas.Lifted aromatics.
Significant VA. Adds to the wine as a youngster but would likely become unpleasant with age.
Drink young.

Earth, sous bois, animalistic, wild cranberries, cowberries. Slightly bitter sweet, pungent aromas and flavors. Not a grand Pinot, but a soulful wine for sure.
PS: better (more substance, depth of flavour) with air.

GF says 'I really enjoyed that'. I think it's bland. Inoffensive but totally forgettable. Beige.

Eucalypt, great length, green pepper (a bit too much for my taste), fresh acidity, earthy aromas. Very much Northern Rhone, not new world. Pleasure to drink. Fruit seems to be giving way to tertiary aromas. Still super nice to drink. Not sure it’ll get better though

Gifted to friends for lunch. Disappointing, as per previous reviewer comment does have that funking mushroomy thing with old fruit going on. No need to revisit.

Golden yellow. Dazzling aromatics, poached pear, candied lime/cumquat sort of thing, marzipan, lychee, delivers with minerality and ripeness in a way I've never seen Tas Riesling approach. Texture and extract on the palate drive out awesome length. Crazy cheap for the quality here.

Ripe red fruits, bramble, dried herbs. Medium-bodied, ripe red fruited on the midpalate, slightly spirity and herbal.

Didn't like this at all upon opening - has the kirsch cherry/dried herb finish that I encounter in many Aust pinot noir, and that I dislike.

After 5 hours of air, the wine is slightly better integrated. It's still ripely fruited, meaty with ripe red fruits, dried oregano, black pepper and olive tapenade, medium-bodied with a slight unctuous character, medium acidity and with some bitey tannins still remaining. Tastes more like a North Rhone Syrah (eg. Cornas) than a pinot noir. A bit tricky to score - if I had to score it like a North Rhone, it would probably be a touch higher.

Garnet with an intensely-coloured core, almost opaque. Powerful nose of red and dark fruits and flecks of candied musk. A touch above medium-bodied, deep-fruited - on opening, a cherry kirsch, now 5 hours later, more attractive raspberry and cherry that is quite persistent, a reasonable acid spine in support, tannins mostly resolved. Some end notes of tar and dried herb. Not much in the way of tertiary development.

Personally, I enjoyed this a lot more after this had been open for 4-5 hours, half the bottle sitting at 15 degrees. Or maybe I'm in a better tasting setting - it's quiet now, with no one around to distract. If opening now, would recommend a reasonable decant of a few hours to let the punchy fruit recede a bit and the wine to harmonise.

(Screwcap, professionally stored since release).

Nose of red cherry, fennel and spice. Rich, savoury palate with great acid support. Toasty tannins a secondary thought, but providing elegant length. My declared bias is this is my style of Pinot. 13.4% ABV. With a Polish Easter spread this was a match made in heaven. 92+.

This wine jumped out at me when last in Nick’s tasting room. Juicy acidity, white pepper and soft mouth-filling tannins. Food friendly at 12% ABV, it also speaks of the Upper Derwent Valley. More about savouriness and spice than it is about fruit. The kind of wine that you need to sit back and think about for a little bit. Surprisingly complex, which after the required time spent thinking about I have decided is due to the whole bunch addition.

I may have asked Nick a few too many wine questions over the weekend, so here are some tasting notes in an attempt to settle the score. The 2011 has been my favourite Rêveur vintage. Acidity and pepper reflect what was a challenging vintage, but which also resulted in complexity and a wine that speaks of time and place. Now slowly developing that classic Rêveur richness, tertiary development also beckons. I look forward to enjoying my remaining bottles over the coming year. 13.9% ABV.

A year can sometimes be a long time in wine. When previously tasting this at the cellar door I thought it was a purer, slightly drier expression of Nick’s Überblanc. But tonight we have white flowers, Meyer lemon, developing colour and subtle mandarin, with good mouthfeel from time on lees and a hint of phenolics. This is still very much Nick’s Riesling, but you get the feeling the vintage has allowed the Tamar fruit to shine. 12.5% ABV.

Tonight’s sausages called for German Riesling. Golden, almost iridescent, colour predicts what is to follow. Early kerosene on the nose. Ripe lemon lime fruit, fermented dry in GG style. Nick’s time at Weingut Eugen Müller in the Pfalz paying dividends. Mineral acidity, roundness and texture from time on lees. This is only going to get more developed from here, so you can choose which side of the kerosene fence you sit on. I’m lucky enough to have 2 more bottles, and am in no real hurry to drink them. 11.3% ABV.

Golden colour. Smells of toast, lime zest and kero. Wanted a little more aromatic complexity given the age but there it is. Nice texture on the palate, feels spritzy and dry mostly, tangy, and has a little creamy, powdery, Turkish delight flavour. Nice bright acid still, and pretty good length. In a good spot now and I’d be drinking this soon before the primary fruit fades away and that creamy, toasty kero thing starts to dominate.

Appearance: clear pale gold
Nose: lemon, lemon peel. Passion fruit. Maybe white blossoms and quince? Nectarine? Wet stones, flint, maybe kerosene. Clean, medium intensity, primary but developing.
Palate: lemon, lemon peel. Quinine/tonic water. Passion fruit. Nectarine and white peach? White blossoms. Wet stone, flint, maybe kerosene. I’m guessing this will gain honeyed character with another five or ten years age. Dry, high acidity - lemon like, medium alcohol, medium (-) bodied, medium(+) flavour intensity. Still quite primary, but opening up and starting to develop. Medium (+) finish. Very good, can drink now, but has potential for ageing. Very lithe, but with some richness. Still quite stern and reserved, but based on earlier notes it’s opened up over the last few years. Elegant. Really lovely. 12,5% alcohol. Seal: screwcap.
