Decidedly old school and a little agricultural with initial whiffs of tar, smoked meats, cedar and polished boot leather. It is very savoury and a tad hard at first but with the benefit of a little air some sweeter notes of raisin and raspberry come to the fore. A wine of good flavour and character that is still quite fresh and vibrant.

I really do not know what is going on with this wine. Tasted it a year ago, and it was similar - I was suspecting the quality of my shipment and/or the local importer (as the cellar has a long track record of flawlessness), but the bottle seems absolutely flawless, cork etc. top shape. Color is nice, maturing, but the nose and the taste is off putting, seems oxidized, very plumby and raisiny, slightly alcoholic - just over the hill. Maybe the wine is like that, maybe it is just my bottles - this is no 3. of six. Not undrinkable, but very far from being my style.

Decanted for 2 hours and drank with rock salt prime rib. This wine is spectacular. Great fruit, with the beautiful earthiness of CDP, all wrapped with wonderfully smooth tannins. This one will be very exciting to taste throughout the next decade. I won't forget this wine.

Drank on Christmas day with grilled rack of lamb, brussels sprouts, & risotto. No formal notes, but wonderful bottle, needed 2 hours of air to open up, mature, lots of garrigue, ripe fruits, & velvet texture, lots of sediment.

I agree with Zinny, there is a big shot of oak here, which to my mi9nd unbalances it. The fruit is not rich enough to be able to stand up to this, and overall it was pretty disappointing. Thyere's no realintegration, and I can't be sure that more bottle time will help, as I don't think there's enough fruit.

Complex Grenache nose (mint, earth, mushrooms, wood); mid-body; balanced; stylish; rich flavor and finish; fine wine with lamb. Good life ahead.

Deep brick colour, nose of red fruit - raspberries, redcurrant - and spice (hint of cloves). Fruity full palate with luscious sweetness, none of the bitter aftertaste of some of the 98 CNP's I've tasted recently. Drinking well now, but won't improve.

This is terrific and such a value! Classic CDP with garrigue, minerality, dark fruit, ripe but balanced, velvety texture and simply delicious! I'm going back for more pronto. A CDP lovers must buy IMO. Serve slightly chilled.

Popped and poured. Dark color, stewed figs, brown spice bit of oak at first. The palate is a bit more focused and lithe than the nose would suggest with decent acidity, and some minerality on the finish. but still lacking the freshness of better '99s. Drink up.

rmodak was right about the straining. Its high in sediment and comes out very cloudy even if its been on its side for months. Reminds me of the 89 Jaboulet Crozes hermitage, very raisiny, which is not really my first choice. It is balanced though and has a long finish.

This wine is showing a lot more wood than I expected. I'm not really sure what's going on with this bottle but I would have to disagree with RP's 92 and call this a quite mediocre effort. Mouthfeel is good, fruit is ok, finish is medium, tannins are medium-soft. I get a lot of ripe, dark fruit, some vegetal notes and a pretty distracting shot of oak.

Maroon red. Spicy black fruit nose with a bit of briar brush thrown in. Plenty of dark fruit, blackberry, blueberry, and roast with firm tannins and a lot of structure. Very good, but it just feels young. The best days are out about 5 years.

This CdP still reflects the 1990 vintage well. I opened the bottle, decanted it, and poured it as we sat down to dinner. It opened up immediately, and displayed many of the classic CdP characteristics both in the bouquet and the taste throughout our dinner - the barnyard (in a good way) , tar, and ripe cherries. Unlike some of the other reviewers, the wine sustained its positive characteristics until it was gone (granted, it only lasted for an hour!). I have a few bottles left and am not in a hurry to finish them -- maybe, I'll drink one a year and will finish my inventory by 2014.

Tasted at the Cincinnati Mondiale du Vin "cellar treasures" event. Red brick color. Nose of earth, leather, stones. Medium palate of red and dark fruit with good length and nice acidity. I wondered if this wine is already fading a bit.

I really liked this. There was a really good balance of sweet (but not jammy fruit), good acidity and nice complexity. Notes of garrigue, fig and hoisin sauce provided a layer over the raspberry and black cherry fruit. Drinking well now, but obviously has the stuffing to go quite a while longer.

Southern Rhone WIMPS (The Ledbury, London): Fragrant, slightly cabbagey nose, though this blows off after an hour or so. Quite viscous in the mouth. Nice fruit and a good, slightly dry feel to the middle and finish. A little pinched in the middle but this does sweeten up and round out with air. ***1/2
