Given its blend of 70% Sangiovese with 20% Cab and 10% Merlot I thought it would pair well with pasta in a meatball and marinara sauce thinking the Sangiovese would be dominant. In fact the Cab was so prevalent we decide to switch to Chianti.

The lightly sweet petulant wine had a pretty nose of peach, papaya and mango which was also present on the palate. A lingering finish paired nicely with the fruit compote and cheesecake dessert.

Nose is has the good aromas of Balsamic vinegar, palate is excellent -- round, soft, burnished, finish short but very pleasant. This is the perfect wine for a pasta with red sauce.

Well priced Barolo that could use 2-3 yrs. in cool storage to harmonize everything but accessible now. Tasted over two days. Day 1 popped/poured from 55 degree bottle showed Lite red cherry/raspberrry shadings on the nose, followed by red/black/bitter dried cherries & red plum w/light toffee notes on the midpalate ending with noticeable tannic grip that echoed on the medium length finish. Re-tasted day 2 with similar sense profile from a 62 degree bottle. Medium in body, the significant fruit acids help carry the fruit flavors to a nice conclusion. The tannins don't get in the way.

I opened this for a Prime Rib dinner with friends on 4/11/15. It had a deep, rich and beautifully expressive bouquet of black cherry, plum, violet, mocha and expresso aromas. The palate was rich, ripe and complex with flavors of black cherry, plum, mocha, cocoa and spice.

This wine smells of booze and slutty Nebbiolo right off the bat. Not impressed to be honest. 15% so probably 16%... This will appeal to Napa drinkers but it disappointing to more classically and terroir driven wines of the Langa.

Still very young - decanted for 5 hours and it was quite nice, forward fruit, long finish, earthy nose. This is going to be really nice after a few more years in the bottle. Must resist opening any more for a while!

2002 Giacomo Conterno Barolo Riserva Monfortino

Nebbiolo more

7/3/2015 - NostraBacchus Likes this wine: 98 points

From Magnum bottle. Surprisingly approachable for Monfortino. Very complex but reticent aromatics of sweet red cherries, but also some dark berries, anise and other spices, tar, crushed rose petals and some herbal/hay kind of thing. Later also some espresso and leather notes emerge. Everything is super complex. It is full-bodied and dense without any heaviness, has teeth-stainingly high acidity and high tannin. Long and very complex finish. While this is still a baby in terms of evolution, I was surprised about the level of complexity and sheer class it is already showing. A super classic, massive but finessed and complex Monfortino of the very highest level... this is what classic traditional Barolo is all about.

Rich, creamy, and glossy, with rounded edges and somewhat matted layers of flavors - exactly why I bought this stuff, for guests that prefer this style of wine. Very little in the way of typicity of grape or place, so after my first pour was gone, I switched to a nice, dry German Riesling and watched as the Preda was emptied in what had to be record time. Harmless, and avoids being boring thanks to some freshness and basic purity. 14,0% abv.

Audozed 1 hr; served non-blind.

2010 Il Marroneto Brunello di Montalcino

Sangiovese more

7/6/2015 - swapdoc wrote: NR

At the '15 Benvenuto tasting I liked the substantial feel of this wine, tasting it next to the rich, smoky, mineral '10 Madonna delle Grazie. Perhaps I was tasting some of the glamor of the single vineyard wine in this Brunello. On its own, this wine is less compelling, missing the energy often associated with '10 vintage. The red fruit is solid and framed by the soaked barrel aromatics, yet missing the sappy edginess of the single vineyard wine. The wine making style is reminiscent of Conti Costanti; the overall impression is of a less multifaceted, less intriguing wine. In the midsection, found craving for more minerality and that volatile aromatic complexity that is often, though not solely, associated with the Southern expression of Brunello. Approachable now -- finishes a little tannic, but without any off-putting astringency.

2008 Fontodi Chianti Classico Riserva Vigna del Sorbo

Chianti Classico DOCG Sangiovese Blend, Sangiovese more

5/13/2015 - Eric Guido Likes this wine: 94 points

It's amazing how much the 2008 Vigna del Sorbo has changed in the last few years. The bouquet seemed to reach up from the glass, delivering dark red fruit with sweet spice, graphite and herbs. On the palate, it was still firm, yet has gained richness and depth as intense dried cherry, cedar, and herbal mint seemed to saturate the senses. It finished with hints of tannin tugging at the palate, while lingering notes of red fruit and spice slowly faded away. This still requires a few years to come together but is already so enjoyable on its potential alone.

A fantastic wine and one of my favorite Chianti's available in any price range. Big fruit with lots of cherry; fresh acidity and good tannins make this a well balanced wine that can go with grilled meats or hold it's own with tomato based pasta dishes, where it really shines.

2007 Cerbaiona (Molinari) Brunello di Montalcino

7/3/2015 - NostraBacchus Likes this wine: 97 points

From Magnum bottle. Wow! Very pretty and complex aromatics of sweet spices, plum, dark red cherries, it feels almost sweet that's how perfumed the wine is. It's medium-full bodied but feels weightless (like Cerbaiona often does), with Burgundian elegance and finesse, it has medium-high tannin and medium+ tannin that is hidden under the wealth of fruit. A fantastic Brunello from this great producer. It was very interesting to drink the 2007 (from Magnum) next to the 2006 (in the normal bottle). While the 2006 should probably still age a few more years, this is already drinking very beautifullly, but still has many years ahead. I personally prefer the 2006, but that is really splitting hair as they are both incredibly beautiful.

Väl beskrivet i flertalet notes tidigare. För mig känns vinet lite av en hybrid mellan Sangiovese och Pinot Noir med avsikt på aromer, fyllighet och struktur. Gott att dricka som rent kontemplationsvin men även utmärkt (som ikväll) till pasta bolognese.
