Having consumed 6 bottles, we (6 wine drinkers) decided to up-grade Amicale to a rating of 90. it is a very nice dry "baby" Amarone - and we decided to buy another 24 bottles.

What the heck? Why is this cheapo wine so good? Get it before it gets pricey, I say. For me, a hit of tobacco on first sip, with some slurpable melon, raspberry and strawberry. Low acid, some tannins, medium bodied. It doesn't have the refinement of better wines - it's a little jammy - but it's well balanced and could hold its own against many more expensive purchases.

2013 Omina Romana Lazio

Cabernet Franc more

4/26/2024 - Odedis.Wine.reviews Likes this wine: 91 points

Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish/ brick rim.

Strong spicy nose with light cedar, tobacco, chocolates and licorice.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with black plums, black currants, coffee, light cedar, cola, light earth, herbs, tobacco leaf and dried meat.

Tangy finish with soft tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a very tasty Cabernet Franc from Lazio, Italy. An interesting wine that feels more like a Right Bank Bordeaux.

This 11 year old is tasty right out of the bottle, and better with airtime. Rich, yet elegant.

Would be nice to revisit it again in 3 years.

A good quality wine. Good by itself or with food.

100% Cabernet Franc grapes were aged in oak barrels for 20 months.

14% alcohol by volume.

91 points.

$100.

You get a lot of fruits - its red cherries also hint of strawberries and raspberries - we also get - we are also getting forrest floor, wood and some menthol - a nice balance - tannins are medium - acidity is a bit higher - but not affecting the balance - for me the wine is at the moment a bit closed - not giving so much - it is a well made wine - and I will start with 92.

PnP, slight chill. A clear light ruby in the glass. Light notes of raspberries and cherries on the nose. These follow on to the medium to minus bodied dry palate with some tartness, minerality, frizzante and juicy acidity. Not meant for long-term aging.

4/26/2024 - BuckeyeBenS Likes this wine: 88 points

Showing a little age with a rusty translucent more-red-than-orange color. Either I'm a little nose blind today or the bouquet is muted compared to my last tasting. Still some red strawberry and pomegranate notes on the nose, but more dried herbs now than I remember. It's certainly softer than it was before. Really nice on the palate, with notes of dried roses, dried herbs, and dried red fruits. There is a slightly acidic, tart finish that's quite nice. I doubt there's much of this obscure little wine out there for people to enjoy, but its fun to sip if you have it.

2015 Stefano Chioccioli Altore Toscana IGT

Sangiovese Blend, Sangiovese more

4/26/2024 - shemmy wrote: NR

Chioccioli is run by brothers Niccolò and Enrico and their sister Ginevra. Their father is a respected oenologist and agronomist who consults for the siblings. They grew up in Greve in Chianti and have long held a passion for creating terroir specific examples of the sangiovese grape. The siblings think of their vines as members of the family.

The vineyards are surrounded by woods of great biodiversity that help keep the vineyards cool and sheltered and contribute to the vitality of the soils. The vines are cared for using only organic processes. A green harvest is carried out each season to concentrate the remaining bunches’ flavors. When the grapes reach the perfect balance, they are harvested parcel by parcel. The grapes are brought in in small boxes to the cellar where they are carefully sorted and then cooled overnight to preserve freshness before being crushed the next morning to begin the honing of their bespoke Chiantis.

This wine is the perfect complement of cabernet sauvignon with sangiovese. After the green harvest, the fully ripened bunches are harvested into small boxes, then cooled overnight. They are meticulously sorted and then fermented in barriques with vinification integrale. The wine ages for two years in oak barrels before another year in bottle. The deep plummy darkness of the cabernet is balanced with waves of bright cacao dusted red cherries. Mint and thyme and leather color the edges of all of the flavors. This wine is a perfect meeting of classicism and modernity.

This wine is available in the US only through the Yes Society.

FOOD PAIRING
In late summer, a whole grilled chicken with ratatouille.

In winter, slow-braised brisket and sauerkraut.

SERVICE NOTES
This wine is coming to your door with some modest age already. It is ready to drink for those that prefer more fruit and freshness in their Chianti. It’s also an
appropriate candidate for longer aging, should you enjoy the depth and nuance
of older sangiovese.

VARIETY

Required at least an hour to wake up and show itself. Dried herbs, dusty red cherry, blackberry, tomato, oodles of earthy sweet leathery tobacco on the nose - unfurling beautifully over the evening. The palate is big, round, grippy drying tannins, but balanced with good acidity and long finish. Still a baby.

2018 Isola delle Falcole Chianti Classico Gran Selezione

Chianti Classico DOCG Sangiovese more

4/26/2024 - shemmy wrote: NR

We love an old, pedigreed wine producer. We also love a young, brilliant-eyed producer, bringing a fresh new perspective to a storied wine region. Isole delle Falcole is the latter.

The venture of three friends, Emanuele, Alessandro and Niccolò, Isola delle Falco works a total of four hectares in the heart of Chianti Classico, between Panzano and Montefioralle. Each of their parcels is considered grand-cru-level, at altitudes between 400 and 520 meters above sea level, planted with vines between 35 and 70 years old. They work a range of microclimates, prioritizing maturity, freshness, and finesse in their grapes. They own 14 additional hectares, four more of which will be converted to vineyards by 2030. Emmanuele, Alessandro, and Niccolò don’t spend much time talking about themselves, because they want the land itself to be the protagonist in the story.
2018 was on the warmer side, resulting in ripe bing cherry flavors, black currant, and baking spice, while maintaining mouth-puckering acidity. The wine spent 30 months in large wooden French and Slovenian casks, with 8 more months in bottle before being released.

FOOD PAIRING

Grassi's 2017 Recioto della Valpolicella is a beautiful wine, wafting from the glass with aromas of licorice, orange confit, roasted berries and vine smoke, followed by a medium to full-bodied, deep and fleshy palate with a sweet core that's tempered by elegantly mordant structuring tannins to render this cohesive and harmonious, concluding with a perfectly balanced finish.

Fruit, body, acidity - all were lighter than expected. Not a bad bottle of wine but certainly not at all distinctive. Pretty generic, in fact, which is not what I expect from a Bucerchiale. While not an expensive wine, still a bit disappointing for the price.

👁 dark Ruby brick stone rim

👃 sweet ripe cherry and minimal plums, Madagascar vanilla, sandal and beechwood, truffles, super fine

👄 full- body; all the 👃 promises, eucalyptus and mint, so classic and still so modern as the fruit is so pure and there is a very long finish

Clearly producer trumps vintage! This is a great achievement from the master of modernisty in a tough vintage!
