Misdirection because of the earthiness and red fruit, you’d almost believe it was a pinot ?? delicious of course and could use more time for sure. Also it didn’t smell of American oak to me which threw me off. But it makes sense as we later found out it’s aged in both French and American oak. |

Drinking and this is not like other Rioja’s I’ve had, very fruity, oak and barrel notes don't show up until the finish I’m used to them being very dry on the finish, this is not that. Medium bodied, fruity, leading to a sour cherry end. Paired very well with grilled chicken. Definite in its prime. One for the decanter, nice on day 1, much better on day 2. |

Very fresh and mellow, palate-wise, with red berries, lots of vanilla, and velvety tannins. Lingers for quite a while, though the finish mostly consists of vanilla and oakiness. Despite its moderate 13.5% ABV, the wine does feel a little hot, though not overbearingly so. Overall, it's well made and has aged gracefully. There is quite some complexity to the wine, some of which is due to over a decade of aging, but I don't think it would improve much with over the coming years. Drink now; very enjoyable. |

All about the tertiary, leather, tobacco, hint of sweet tobacco. The sweetness and acidity in balance. Both present and correct (as one would hope for a traditional Rioja) but neither shouting. A touch of tannin. 91-92 for this bottle at this time. With the move from fruit, whilst the sense of a little richness drops, the wines ages over a few hours and you can imagine its arc waining beyond the last sips. 12.5%. JR glass. |
