5/11/2024 - ETT95 wrote: 93 pointsDeep ruby red. Pronounced nose of cedar, earth, graphite, raspberry and strawberry. Freshened by the lemon-like acidity. Medium+ body and rich. Tannin is still noticeable but smooth. Starting to evolve but still on the young side. |

5/10/2024 - melvinyeowq wrote: 91 pointsA Chambolle + Champagne dinner: My contribution. Slightly advanced colour but palate was correct for the age. Very Jadot - a masculine Chambolle that leaned towards Gevrey with earthy, spicy characteristics and a slight cola note. Somebody managed to nail this as Fuées on his first sip! |

5/11/2024 - isjomia Likes this wine: 94 pointsCork didn't want to come out. Despite using monopole. Cork eventually snapped and then fragmented. Used Venturi to filter cork out. Anyway the wine had a youthful colour. No bricking. Reasonably intense nose. Vibrant and rich palate... definitely doesn't taste old. Almost tastes like a young Rutherglen durif. Surprising fruit...mainly plums. I was going to open a newly purchased 2018 no 1 which won best red wine at the 2021 Barossa wine show but based on this wine I should leave it for 20 years. Glad I kept this 2002 since release. The power of offsite climate controlled cellaring. |

5/10/2024 - melvinyeowq wrote: 93 pointsA Chambolle + Champagne dinner: Another wine with a red berry-laden, lifted nose but this gave the impression of some stem inclusion. A more masculine Chambolle with generous oak use that reminded me of the Cathiard Chambolle village I had in France, but felt warmer and riper so went for ‘15 as the vintage. I’ve only tried Stephane and Henri Magniens before but on this showing Frederic might be the best of the trio. |

5/10/2024 - melvinyeowq wrote: 94 pointsA Chambolle + Champagne dinner: Served as a pair with the Groffier from a generous friend. Took time to get going but developed a brilliant, vibrant nose of fresh raspberries (albeit only in the Sensory glass). Some screechy acidity so guessed '08 or '11 for the vintage. A very pretty, lifted wine with mineral, red strawberry fruit that reminded me of H-N stylistically. Agreed with a friend who said that cooler vintages suit Barthod's style better. |

5/11/2024 - Paco55 wrote: 94 pointsReally lovely bottle of Burgundy that hits all the high notes. Fragrant, interesting nose backed up by a lovely balanced palate with a touch of "animale" that adds just the right amount of interest and complexity. Has quite a few years in front of it but its drinking very well from now. |

5/11/2024 - pgordon62 Likes this wine: 90 pointsStarted rather browned in color. Pronounced cedar, allspice. Tannin finely coating the whole mouth. 30 mins brought raspberry, strawberry, printers ink and a darker color. Spicy finish with a little heat. Will the fruit outlive the tannin? An enjoyable wine but lacks a little texture, depth and complexity. Fingers crossed for positive development (as I have another 5 bottles). |

5/10/2024 - melvinyeowq wrote: 92 pointsA Chambolle + Champagne dinner: Served as a pair with the Barthod from a generous friend. Even split at the table between the two wines, some liked the aristocratic aged Burgundy nature of this but I felt it lacked the elegance and finesse of an archetypal Chambolle. The smoky, savoury nature of the wine made it feel like a Gevrey to me. No ‘04 greenness but did have high acidity. |

5/10/2024 - melvinyeowq wrote: 91 pointsA Chambolle + Champagne dinner: My extra since I shared this with some colleagues before dinner. Old label without the ok hand gesture. Most guessed Puligny or Meursault because of the creamy texture and a slight fatness to the wine. Much better than a previous bottle last year (with the ok sign label) as it had more freshness and salinity but still too much (artificial) sweetness; neither 2017 nor Chablis to me. |

5/10/2024 - melvinyeowq wrote: 94 pointsA Chambolle + Champagne dinner: Wow my first instinct was Collin - opulent and ripe but so tightly coiled with acidity at the same time. Couldn’t think of a maker that was similar in style but when revealed it made complete sense. Almost golden in colour, caramel-inflected citrus fruit with a serious intensity. A very contemplative champagne that I enjoyed very much and glad to have tried it for the first time. |

5/11/2024 - Torchy wrote: 94 pointsAnother perfect Italian bottle. Deep dark red. The nose is pure, clear, and concentrated with blackcurrant, lead, red fruit, and wax cloth. On the palate, the wine has polished tannins, it's juicy, it's dense, and lush. Red fruit, leather, coffee, and cherries. Balanced and long. |

5/10/2024 - melvinyeowq wrote: 90 pointsA Chambolle + Champagne dinner: Another oxidative, old-school champagne. Guessed early ‘00s grower but thought it was a Pinot-dominant blend with its red fruit. A rather big-boned, clumsy champagne; would have preferred more lift and freshness. |

2004 Louis Roederer Champagne Cristal BrutChampagne Blend more |
5/10/2024 - melvinyeowq wrote: 94 pointsA Chambolle + Champagne dinner: Wow a Cristal that I liked. Thought Comtes at first with the reductiveness and toasty brioche notes, didn’t have the strictness and lemon dishwashing liquid vibes that I normally get in Cristal. Incisive with a creamy texture, just a superbly balanced champagne. Another winner for '04 which remains one of my favourite champagne vintages. |

5/11/2024 - Rote Kappelle Likes this wine: 92 pointsA wine right in the stylistic line from Aunty Eva, all tropical fruit, some nectarine and ripe lemon. It went down well with my hosts at dinner a few nights ago, which might be seen as a mixed message or a backhanded compliment. One of them has a perpetually blocked nose, the only variable being the degree. She thought it 'sweet' (which it is not - it is fruity but it finishes quite dry) but enjoyed it and, in the end that is an achievement, as anything not a soft Barossa style seems to offend her. |
