Oi! This is quite awesome. Extremely aromatic on the nose with candied black cherries/blackberries, white pepper, dried florals, incense and black olive tapenade. An intense palate shows sweet-sour crushed black small fruits, the savory notes of black olives, pepper, good acidity and melting tannins on a long floral finish.

Red fruit, cherry, black currant, tobacco, herbs.

Delicious with the venison curry, which improves the wine.

Curry ingredients are cumin, coriander, tumeric, ginger, garlic, onions, stewed tomatoes and cooked raisins. It offset the sweetness in the wine and brought the savory notes forward

Brought to E&K's for eclipse. Wow, time has done wonders for this. It was really smooth with lovely herbaceous notes on both nose and palate. The rough edges are all gone. Have one left. 93/94

Found a bottle in the cellar. Was pleasantly surprised how good this wine is for 2007. Good color, deep dark, good structure. Nice cali Syrah with chocolate and dark berry flavors.

Good Wine with an Exciting Super Bowl (The Krengels - Bannockburn IL): Walkaround tasting. Ultra ripe with little that I found interesting. Didn't seem like mountain fruit to me.

2 hours slow ox. Consumed over next 2 hours. Loads of black fruits but the 3% white grapes add a distinct but integrated layer of salinity, citrus and melon. Some vanilla creme /Oak. 40 second finish. 15.7% alcohol is fully integrated and not noticeable - until you finish the bottle.

This was singing tonight, PnP ready to go. Bought in a mixed auction lot with no idea what to expect. This still felt very fresh and vibrant; soft, ripe cherry on the palate along with spice and good acidity. Nose was wonderfully lush and complex. Didn't feel the heat at all, just rich and vibrant fruit.

medium red color. Bell pepper, black currant, tobacco and slight medicinal note (odd fora cab). On palate, medium body, medium acidity, low tannins and long finish. Best bottle I have had - a very lean style of wine but for price paid not too bad this time. 89+/-

Used 3/4 of bottle for braised pork but glass I am drinking now is okay. Some earlier bottles had some weird funk on the nose.

I agree with the others below. Decant both for sediment and to get this wine to open up and see where it really is now. The timeline here probably needs 1-2 more years. Still biting on the end but fruit is very present upfront and Syrah funkiness abounds. Had along side a 07 Carlisle James Berry Syrah and it held it's own in quality as well as unique taste. Drink this winter with a long decant of 2 hours or so, or hold 12-24 months

This has mellowed and improved notably since my previous try 5 years ago. There is still lots of lively fruit, but the tannins are mostly mellowed out and there are some nice herbal notes on the finish. It still isn't seamless but has come a long way. Should pair nicely with red meat. CT drinking window ended 2022, but I pushed my window end back to 2024. I think these will still be good for a couple years, but not sure they will get better than they are now. Should drink my other two in the next year or so

Weighing in at a solid 15.7%, this bruiser still packs a punch. Huge aromatics right off the start, interesting, savory, earthiness and dark ripe fruits. But after an hour or so it begins to calm down and blueberry mocha notes start to emerge. Finish is on the rind/bitter side of the palate with lingering blue fruit. Drinking nicely but time to open any remaining bottles soon.

P.S. - I rated this a 91 and we put half a bottle away under gas. Next day it had TOTALLY fallen apart and we ended up pouring it in our home made wine vinegar barrel. Such a disappointment and it ultimately speaks to this wine's flaw. It's a great big huge explosion at first but many many many other wine's of this ilk evolve and "mature" into beautiful things. Not so here. It's just totally overwhelmed by it's acids and has no mid palate left to support this chemistry. Perhaps it's going through a rough patch (?) in it's development but I for one am not going to stick around to find out!

Maybe just a hint of TCA or dirty barrel, very faint, with menthol, juicy cherry and pepper notes. I’m starting to believe there is TCA in the wine.

Improved from the last bottle.

The color in the glass is lighter than what I am used to with Syrah. More of a ruby red than a midnight burgundy.

The petrichor and blueberries maintain their dominance, but now distinct notes of vanilla and mild cherry show up mid-palate, and the finish is a touch chalkier and less acerbic.

I'm curious how this vintage would fare in another year or two, but sadly it's my last bottle.

Really solid Sonoma cabernet, a bit rustic and slightly unpolished, but in a good way. Leaning toward the red fruit end of the spectrum, with bing cherry, ripe strawberry, cranberry and red plum notes, with a chewy and slightly leathery finish. Drank over 3 evenings and it kept getting better. A steal at $30.

I am behind on tasting notes but do remember this being a much improved and impressive turn around after what most would consider inadequate to cook with. The style is more in line with what Pax does so well, which is very little intervention and manipulation of the wines.

This in my cellar from about 2017. I was looking for something that could stand up to jambalaya spice. Splash decanted, drank over about 90 minutes.

Deep red/purple color, some thinning at the edge. Nose of blackberry and savory notes. Palate of dark berry, tart blackberry, olive/balsamic. Val picked up some bacon fat...all of the Northern Rhone varietal notes going on here. Savory and dark fruit through the finish. Medium weight, medium/long finish.

This was good right out of the bottle, evolved a bit over the time we drank it. Best to take some time with this and enjoy it. Pairing with jambalaya worked...a big wine that has aged nicely. Not likely to improve much from here, if you have this find the right pairing as an excuse to drink it now.... I paid $16.70 from Garagiste 7 years ago. Amazing value, great American Syrah
