2016 Bosquet des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape A la Gloire de mon Grand-Père

Grenache Blend, Grenache more

Almost 100% Grenache with a few ppm Cinsault and Clairette. This is Grenache at its best, voluptuous and fully ripe with an unusually deep, young cherry-red color, a complex bouquet wih beefstock, cherries, blackberries and a lot of other red and black fruits, followed by a full, lush taste with the sweetness of ideally ripe fruits, ripe tannin, an excellent acidity, characteristic for this great vintage, and a long finish. This is exactly my type of wine which is already irresistible right now, but will certainly last for more than 5 years while even gaining more complexity.
At 36,50€ (in 2018) on the domain this is fantastic QPR!

Nose strong with anise and fresh red berries, light body, smooth tannins. Clean on the pallet, currant, hints of licorice and sorrel. Very enjoyable. No deep tertiary flavors to speak of.

Red berries and lavender with just enough earth and spice. Give at least 90 minutes to open up, peak at four hours.

Drank with Oz and EM at The Greens. No decant, though could've used it. Big, full-bodied, and juicy. Very much on the sweet red cherry side of spectrum both on nose and palate. Some spice, nice long finish. Modern style. Needs some bottle age IMO.

Fully mature now and on sous-bois, iodine, band aid notes. The fruit is dusty, largely gone, and there is marks of pine and a bit of VA on the palate. Time to drink up, and drink up fast.

Nose is slightly metallic on open. Fruits are there, but the astringency on the finish is way too much. Poured through Venturi and decanted for one hour. This opened the wine to a stunning bouquet of fruit and a mix of sweet/rich earthy elements. Very silky on the palate. Med-full bodied. Paired with mixed grill. Loved it.

After a lengthy decant of 3 hours this began to round into shape. Oodles of black cherry, blackberry, and plum lead the way on the nose with notes of black licorice, black tea, and allspice. All of this carries on with the fruit coming into prominence on the palate. This is very fresh and bursting with acetic energy that carries into a long finish. The tannins are firm. The mouthfeel is creamy. There’s a lot to like here.

This vintage is almost all Grenache (98%).

Blackberry, red cherry, garrigue, new leather, earth, and minerals on the nose. Sweet cherry, blackberry, tart cherry, earth, herbs, a touch of ink, and minerals on the palate. Decent acidity (could use more), moderately grippy tannins, medium finish. Shows some heat. Hmm, this is one of the few times where despite noticeable heat, I can't put it down. It's just very delicious. I'm rating this bottle pretty high despite my better judgement.

Deep dark purple, typical CdP nose. Right now this is over extracted for my taste with rich chewy dark berries. As others have said this calms down after a few hours in the glass. Revisit in several years to see if this resolves.

Opened this at Summer Hill over lunch to celebrate a birthday with my best friend. We had the Zucchini Conserva, Porcini & Chicken Liver Paté, Classic Roast Chicken and Brussels Sprouts Amandine.

Decanted for an hour before consuming. Dark brooding purplish red in colour. Dark red fruits on the nose and palate: cherries, berries, black coffee, pepper, licorice, tobacco.

Like the white, this bottle will benefit from further aging in the bottle (or cellar) for the elements to integrate further to present a more wholesome wine.

Straw with a tinge of green. White stone fruits on the nose and palate. Some apricot, fresh peach, crisp green apples, fresh minerals and a touch of herbs.

Had expected more from this wine. May need a bit more time in the bottle and cellar for the elements to come together. Not fully integrated affecting the overall experience of the wine.

A fantastic base cuvée from this still somewhat underrated Châteauneuf domain with, in this grand vintage, all components in the right proportions: the lushness of the Grenache boosted by the power of the Mourvèdre and Syrah, plenty of ripe tannins, optimal acidity and a lingering finish. The 15% alcohol is very well integrated. Drink this beauty now and over the next 5-10 years according to your personal preference.
This wine promises fireworks for the special cuvèes “Chante le Merle” and “A la gloire de mon Grand Père”.

Ripe strawberries, bramble berries, kirsch, chalky mineral notes, anise and hoisin sauce. Well-strewn tannins and a fleshy, concentrated middle. The finish is long, with cottony tannins and some sap. Excellent today and will age well. The body is medium and elegant. Drink 2025 - 2035.

Remarkable: showing huge bottle age. Dark nose with feral farmyard notes. Still very tannic. High notes and almost astringent on the palate. Elegant and still quite tight and acidic. However with slow cooked briased beef, it was magical. The acidity and the tannins cut though the fats of the beef: just magical,

Herbs and spice accompany the ripe red, cherries, kirsch and strawberry in the nose. The palate is silky, sweet, soft and fresh, with layers of creamy-textured red cherries and peppery strawberries from start to finish is this elegant, seductive wine. The wine was made using mostly old vine Grenache that is more than 80 years of age, along with Syrah and Mourvedre. Drink from 2024-2034.

I didn't decant this before drinking and should have! Initially it tasted of alcohol. The label reads 15.5% and I think if showed that alcohol even after it had opened and dark red fruit showed up. It seems well crafted and should improve with more time in the cellar.

No contemporaneous notes. Good color, aromatic, deep nose. Full bodied, balanced, wonderful flavor on the palate and long. I believe that this cuvee is 100% grenache and it shows. in a good way. Still very young, this only started to open up after 2-3 hours in a decanter. Hold or give a long decant. Enjoyable now with significant upside. Excellent. (93+).

Pale tawny color. Slightly cloudy. Bricking big time.

Strong garrigue note with leather, graphite, and clove spice. Very ripe and mature black raspberry fruit with fig and olive note. Very briny midpalate with meaty savoriness and tobacco leaf note. Long spicy finish with some peppery sensation.

Medium plus body, Medium plus acidity. Medium plus tannin - still grippy.

Good fruit with tertiary complexity. Relatively big wine with good balance and a lot of interesting components.
