2019 Casar de Burbia Godello Bierzo Casarmore |
4/21/2024 - Mwc33 Likes this wine: 93 pointsHoly smokes! I forgot about this bottle entirely, and opened it last night almost as a throwaway with friends over. It was fantastic - the age has done it wonders. The color is now deep gold, and the racy, saline acidity of the fresh godello has become much more rounded, with honeysuckle and other floral notes and hints of lycee, while retaining enough crispness to not feel flabby or unstructured. This was a surprising delight. |

7/15/2023 - ocassiuso Likes this wine: NRBottle a praiseworthy 1145g. And the name would make a great title for a movie about Indonesian punks: Kasar di 'Burbia. Moderately intense aromas of Meyer lemon and stone fruit with a light herbal top-note, with moderate fresh acidity, medium to full-bodied, 13.5% abv. No obvious oak, thankfully. Nice textural interplay between the ripe fruit and grainy acidity. Pleasant, but a little more concentration and intensity would make it exciting. GV. |

Dry, with elevated mouth-watering acidity, moderate dusty tannins, full-bodied, 14.5°. Dark, rather lean fruit on the palate. Seems disjointed; maybe it needs more time to come together. |

It showed well right away with excellent depth that leans into soulful tones of Plums, pomegranate, red cherries, roses, incense, perfumes, raspberries, currants, spice notes, crushed rocks, some earth notes, a bit of tobacco leaf, and herbs. The Medium/Full bodied feel is silky and elegant with crisp, medium+ acidity and silky, medium tannins. This is Elegant and poised with a lengthy finish. This needs about an hour of air, but it’s a real beauty already and can age further. |

A little hot this year but not as hot as '15. Everyone thinks '15 is the best but the winemaker prefers 2016. Smells mineral and slate-y to me. And in fact the most direct on the palate and focused so far. '16 months in new barrel but it holds it well. The important thing is fresh but not green. He is the opposite of Raoul, he prefers correct wine. Swirling opens it up. Some green fruit notes coming out. |

9/28/2021 - Ben Christiansen wrote: NRAnd also blue fruited like the 2019. The wine maker notes much more length to it. And oh, this is the Hombros. They are cutting out the bottom of the bunches for a quality reason that I don't understand. More round and fat on the palate. More weight, maybe a bit too weighty? But maybe that is the point or makes it more marketable? Opens up in the glass and the weight helps it out. 25% More or les new oak. Why new oak? More tannic and stronger in the body the winemaker notes. |

Gravity in big tanks. 50% in 600 L oak and then the rest in 225 L and all old. 12 months to make it more mature but not make it oaky. The point is Mencia. From the higher plot. And funny. Maybe its all this talk of oak but now it tastes oaky to me. From Isidoro all the manual labor means there is no racking in Mencia. |

Fat and round on the palate in a good way. 50% new oak barrel. 500 L and 700 L barels. 700 i smore integrated notes Isidoro. 12 month in those barrels, but then into stainless steel for 7 months to integrate. More slate and the soil demands it. Winemaker likes the complexity and length of the wine. a little bit more clean, like a male cow? There was something I missed there in that statement. No malo. For the acidity. Very important to keep the acidity. |

9/28/2021 - Ben Christiansen wrote: NRHere the soil is clay. When you clay the wine is more wide and full in the mouth. And this is indeed wide in the mid palate bbut crispy in the back. Shorter in length but very lovely. For the wine maker more mineral with evolution in the bottle. Very beautiful minerality. He, Isidoro, like godello to be the Spanish Chardonnay. Beautiful fresh minerality too it. And I'm not all that fresh right now. From the higher plot. |
