First Aussie wine in a few years. Not a fruit bomb but definitely fruit forward. Dark fruit with reasonable tannins and hints of spices. Finish too short for 4*

Leaf Day - Stelvin cap - As the back label stated it was bottled unfiltered I decanted it off about a tablespoon of fine sediment. Still dark cherry/garnet at the core which extends out to a crimson edge. Little development showing. Right after decanting the nose is dense dark blue and black fruit with a touch of funk and some light spice. On the palate it’s very smooth and much lighter than I expected with light red fruit flavours. There’s some light tannins left and a touch of herby green tang. The finish is warming with spice along with the red and now some blue fruit. Will see what happens when it gets some air.
An hour later - I wouldn’t call this jammy or over alcoholic/extracted - it’s now showing red florals, spice and (perhaps) some lightly overripe dark fruit but there’s a lot of elegance on the palate - it’s become savoury and serious with red/black fruit, herbs, spice and floral elements. Quite honestly, it’s a great New World example of showing Old World characteristics. Could it be confused as Old World? Never! But… it’s elegant and sophisticated with fruit.

Two Days later - Leaf Day - Nose shows blue and black fruit and spice with a hint of leather and just a titch of floral. On the palate there’s a herb/fruit combo happening where they’re co-joined but then the herb drops and the fruit comes to the fore with some leather, spice and floral notes - especially on the long finish. There is still some ripe tannins in here and the acidity balances the ripe fruit. Really an interesting wine and I wish I could have followed it a little longer but the bottle is done.

Big, bombastic blue fruit with plums leading the way. Eucalyptus, vanilla, oak, and chocolate. The acidity and fruit aren't completely in balance; the fruity sweetness takes over a bit too much for my taste. But if you're looking for a big, fruity barbecue wine, you've found it here. I could probably have guessed Zinfandel blindly given the fruity sweetness, chocolate, and coffee in the aftertaste.

Amazing nose that has only gained in both complexity and power through the years. Cedar wood, coconut, milk chocolate, mint and blackberries jump out of the glass.

Cool elegance on the palate. Very balanced and a long, long finish. Great bargain when you keep it for this long. Only downside is that this is my last bottle.

Ruby red color with a brown edge.
The nose is powerful mint and eucalyptus at first, confusingly Aussie Shiraz notes. Blackberries and dark fruits. The palate is fruited with dark fruits, with rounded (low) acidity and a long, mint finish.
As it opens up in the glass, secondary notes of sweet licqurice on the nose, followed by more eucalyptus. Palate dries up with som green notes. Juicy. Medium long finish.
Never tried these varieties before. Drink now but will probably keep another 5 years.

Wild and fiery on the nose at first. Blueberries, sour cherry and coconut.

Fresh on the palate. There is balance but the fruity acidity is quite powerful and leaves a rather one-dimensional impression.

Decanted for an hour or so, and even then it was still a bit closed. A very powerful wine, will likely mellow and improve for many more years. Has a long life ahead of it. Would give it a long decant next time.

Pre-Christmas Get together with friends (Elgin): Deep opaque black-red colour the bouquet is filled with plenty of spicy oak, black cherries, black plum and cassis. There is a whiff of dried herbs and mulberry.
Full-bodied, the wine is bold, with sweet fruits, plum skin texture and concentrated black fruits. There is a backdrop of lively acidity and a load of new oak. The tannins are firm and powdery with lovely thickness and density that balance against the warm fleshy berries of blackcurrants and black plums. A fruit-forward Australian wine that had interest and good length.
