1/20/2024 - devillighter wrote: 90 pointsA better bottle than the one I opened a year ago. Decanted for sediment and consumed immediately over several hours in a Grassl Cru. A good choice for a snowy winter evening. A bit of alcohol on the nose when first opened. Herbal savory fruits with decent acidity backing it up. A satisfying rustic wine, decent value from WineBid at $30. Will hold my last bottle for a few more years. |

6/4/2023 - OhioNerd Likes this wine: 91 pointsFresh for a 2009. Drinking very well. I’m not too familiar with this wine or region but I am impressed with this bottle. Nose has chocolate covered cherry liquor and basil. Moderate but integrated tannins. Red fruit with a touch of white chocolate on the palate. |

I did not care for the nose of this wine, which started off quite funky (oaky??) and never blew off, but I don’t think it was from TCA. Palate was better, if not terribly complex. Relatively light and not over the top, with light blue berry and grape along with earthy soil and some orange citrus flavors. |

7/11/2022 - Handy1 Likes this wine: 92 pointsFrom double magnum. Opened and tasted had some funky smell and tasted of dark fruit, tobacco. Decanted next day funk was gone held up nicely during evening. Overall very good |

12/22/2021 - OenophilistMN Likes this wine: 93 pointsMy introductory tour of Italian wines continues.... One-hour decant through a screened and aerating funnel. A fair amount of sediment in the screen. During decant, a slight waft of dried cherries and leather came forth. After resting in the decanter and poured into the glass: wine was clear; dark ruby bowl to a lighter pinkish rim surrounded by a large halo. Nose continued to show dried cherries and leather notes with a very floral undertone. In the mouth, dried red fruits, citrus peel, herbs and some charcoal ash (similar to a grilled steak in the Summer). Lovely mouth feel: smooth, generous and deep. Perfect accompaniment to Sicilian-spiced veal chops. Plenty of time left per my (admittedly novice) palate. |

6/19/2019 - Alpton wrote: 91 pointsStewed plum, cherry liquor, menthol, leather. Fully developed, silky mouth feel with still a lively acidity and some tannins. The fruit is fresher on the palate than on the nose. Alcohol is a bit high, but overall quite enjoyable. |

3/4/2019 - andtheodor wrote: 92 pointsMy note from 2015 still works for me. Severely mineral, charred meat, scented markers, black licorice, dutch cocoa, sweet clean soil, great acidity, coarse tannin. If this ever manages to resolve some texture it would be great. 3/4/2018 - BBencz Likes this wine: 92 pointsShort decant. Deep garnet color. After initial funk blew off, not giving a ton on the nose. Light ash, flowers, and red fruit. Loads of red fruit on the palate - red cherries and raspberry. Tannins really starting to soften. Acid more in the forefront now. This is continuing to work itself out, but starting to show amazing promise. Give it another three to five years and it could be a real stunner. |

12/4/2017 - depechemoroder Likes this wine: 90 pointsPowerful and brooding, showing punchy blackberry, varnish, and earth. Vivacious and spicy, but not without a certain finesse for the style. Incredibly young despite the bottle age, it's still an almost inky purple. Full of character and style. A lot of enjoyment here. |

11/17/2017 - westopherguy Likes this wine: 90 pointsDeep, inky color; gorgeous. A very interesting and unique nose of cedar, red licorice, vinyl, herbs, cherry, mineral. Palate is distinctive and unique, with prune, more intense red licorice, and medicinal / herbal elements in the mix. Long, enjoyable finish where vanilla, chocolate, leather emerges. Complex and intriguing. Tannins have a very light grip. I’ve had Aglianicos before, but this is NOTHING like that. This was recommended by one of the folks at this wine store, and I’m so glad we “bit” on it. |

8/25/2017 - Rani Likes this wine: 90 pointsPolished, somewhat dusty on the nose. Nice balance in the mouth, with ample acidity, gripping yet fine tannins, and a compote of figs, plums and blueberries. Not really comparable to any of the more common varietals. Ready now but can easily and gracefully age another 6-7 years. |

10/11/2016 - 560 B&W Likes this wine: 90 pointsAt A 16. Lots of initial funk. Oddly big for the blend and the alcohol. Decanted at home but still not showing like I hoped. 13.5% |

I thought someone said it had some Aglianico. Lots of potential here to improve a few points, but I would hold at least five more. |

1/11/2016 - studleytrey Likes this wine: 91 pointsSimilar to my last bottle in 2013, along with other notes I'm seeing here. Lots of sediment, so definitely stand up ahead of time and decant. Aromas of blueberry, cherry, cedar, eucalyptus, and potting soil. Cherries, blueberries, tobacco, and iron on the palate, with medium body and finish, medium(+) acidity, and still a bit of grainy tannin, but not too in the way of enjoyment. Drinking well. |
