12/31/2022 - Nosey Nose wrote: 93 pointsBright ruby color. Expressive, fruity nose with cranberry, sour cherry, dried herbs, peach tea, and cedar-earthy tones. Bright, fresh and very young on the palate. This could have used more time in the barrel but is really lovely for its energy, red fruit and mineral youth. Love the fruit at mid and energetic/mineral finish. Hopefully time will bring complexity to this wine. |

12/31/2022 - Nosey Nose wrote: 94 pointsReticent at first. Herbal, sour cherry, fennel, thyme, bay and well seasoned oak notes. Subtle tea. Medium body with lovely acidity and thrust. LONG with lots of complex herbs on the finish. For me, Chianti is the king of food pairing for these savory notes and structure. This wine is on top from that perspective. Pretty perfect, although not yet as expressive as it may be with some time in bottle. |

7/5/2022 - Nosey Nose wrote: NRPretty light gold color. I want to say this is a really pure wine but it definitely has some really appealing, lifted, oxidative notes of corruption that make it more interesting. Curry, citrus, nuts, salty consomme, and silage with underlying just-ripe pit, verging on tropical, fruit. Exotic spice cabinet. Full and rich on entry with bright, fresh, citrusy acidity carrying it through to a very long finish. There is a concentration to this wine that makes it pleasurable if not exciting. Certainly memorable and fun with food. Lentil soup tonight, although I would love to have this with Comte. |

5/7/2020 - Nosey Nose wrote: 92 pointsIn a blind tasting. Tasted on day 1 and 2. Well made. Pretty and seamless as you would expect. Is it special? Does it speak of a place? I would say no. We guessed Napa, but mostly because of the fruit at mid and the alcohol stands out a bit on the finish. Good length but there is not a lot of complexity here. |

5/7/2020 - Nosey Nose wrote: 95 pointsWe had this in a blind tasting. It showed as reduced, black olive tapenade, and a little feral. It was clearly leaner from an alcohol standpoint than the CA and WA wines but not as expressive than we expected. Day 2 is a different story. The oak subsides and incredible red fruits (cherry, red currant) show with purity on nose and palate. So long today with great acidity and drive. Incredible what a day does. 92 yesterday. 95 today 7 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

2/2/2020 - Nosey Nose wrote: 90 pointsPresented blind: Lightly gold color shows age, along with initial aromas of lanolin and wax. Meyer lemon and seashells. The palate shows lean and pure with early pick white grape notes and vibrant, long acidity. This is a high acid wine but holds it well. Subtle thyme/tarragon and hints of spice on the long lasting finish. |

1/4/2020 - Nosey Nose wrote: 90 pointsTight, mineral and smoke nose with deeply toasted almond, meyer lemon, oyster shell, cherry and subtle herbs (thyme?). The entry is bright and fresh leading to a medium-bodied mid with sweet cherry combined with bitter pit fruit skin. The medium-length finish is almost a bit salty. This may improve with time in the bottle, maybe 2 years. Nice now and perhaps suited to pair with brie or triple cream to mellow the finish. |

6/1/2015 - Nosey Nose wrote: 90 pointsFragrant, dark fruit, dried black cherry, porty walnut notes, cinnamon and an animal/blood, mineral side that gives balance and interest. The palate is richly fruited with dates and dried sour cherries but with really lovely vibrancy that keeps the fruit fresh rather than over-born. Moderate tannins and lovely juice on the moderately long finish. I like this wine; it is extremely interesting while maintaining finesse and balance. |

5/27/2015 - Nosey Nose wrote: 88 pointsDark, spicy, dried cherry and playdough nose. Medium full with acidity showing slightly out on the finish. This comes off a little warm, but I think it is due to slightly elevated VA rather than alcohol. Medium length with tightly knit but moderate tannins. |

4/19/2015 - Nosey Nose wrote: 86 pointsReally fragrant nose with fresh pea shoot, crisp green pepper, grass, and gooseberry. Sweet touch on entry with wonderful, rich tropical fruit at mid. Soft feel throughout with only moderate length on the finish. Some stony tones at mid. I'm not sure why this wine has gotten so many poor reviews. The aroma is classic and not overdone. It would be a wonderful example of kiwi SB if the palate had some length and drive. |

4/7/2015 - Nosey Nose wrote: 90 pointsReally dense muddy blue purple color with ruby rims. Dusty, earthy, licorice, forest floor, black cherry, fig, and subtle smoke. Medium body with surprising elegance for the density of color and nose. The finish is fresh even though it centers on dried fruits (cherry, fig and maybe a little cranberry-or something red). Tannins are nicely wrapped in the fruit. Good length, especially for the money. Easy to drink and has breed well beyond its price. |

4/6/2015 - Nosey Nose wrote: 90 pointsReticent, lemon verbena, vanilla, and Sauternes-like apricot skin on the nose. Soft and very smooth with green apple and subtle herbs on the mid. Sweet mid that turns to lemon on the moderately long finish. Nice balance here. |

4/5/2015 - Nosey Nose wrote: 87 pointsBright, lemon, floral, slightly high-toned like lemon dish soap. A stony side too. Medium body. Turns tropical at mid with strong pineapple that really pops. The acid is a little high for the concentration, making the finish seem a little simple, although it does have drive. |

5/11/2014 - Nosey Nose wrote: 89 pointsOpen, oxidative nose with date, almond, cherry and vanilla. Vibrant entry. Sweet sour cherry notes with bitter almond at mid, then vanilla/bourbon notes at mid. The finish is red with very bright acidity that keeps it fresh and easy to drink. I didn't like this wine as well as others at the table but respect many its lithe feel. |

5/11/2014 - Nosey Nose wrote: 94 pointsLifted, frangrant nose with lime, stone, mint, pear and hazelnet. Lovely nose. Silky entry that turns to racy lime and lemon at mid that stains the palate with razor sharp acidity. Crazy fresh for its age. I would guess this as 5 years old at most, except for the fragrant bouquet. Beautiful. Finish goes on and on with citrus and mineral notes. Very electric. |

3/24/2014 - Nosey Nose wrote: 91 pointsBeautiful, fragrant black/white pepper nose with lovely animal, iron/blood Brett notes. Funky, feral and fun to smell. The palate is fresh with racy, almost Riesling like acidity keeping it taut. Under-ripe raspberry, mineral and steely. Medium length. This still has great life in it. Nice food wine with lots of soul. |

3/23/2014 - Nosey Nose wrote: 89 pointsA bit Jura-like on the nose. Apple, almond, toasted brioche, yellow flowers and subtle honey. Medium body with a rich mid-palate that shows honey and apple. A little like an apple streudel. Good persistence but perhaps a little too sweet for balance. Refreshing though and ultimately may not handle lower sugar bc of the high acidity. Good spice. |

2/11/2014 - Nosey Nose wrote: 88 pointsThis has a very unique nose: somewhere between Blaufankisch and Mouvedre, maybe. Iron, blood, cherry and pepper. Maybe it is the Grenache showing through. Medium to light body with red fruit that flows like a light white wine. Long with a gentle warmth and good sweetness. A bit of spritz. |

A bit of RS but nicely set within the wine. Nice deal and very easy to drink. I'd give this wine a higher score if it were more complex. |

2/4/2014 - Nosey Nose wrote: 91 pointsThis wine has a great deal more breed than its price reflects. The nose reminds me of premier cru Burgundy: flinty, mineral, grilled peach, oakdust and keylime. Medium body with great flow and vibrancy centered around a lovely core of citrus (orange?). While this lacks the intensity and depth of higher end Burgundy, it is irresistable and hard to stop drinking. This is what wine should taste like. |
