2005 Château Haut-MauracMédoc Red Bordeaux Blend more |
9/25/2015 - freedomjim Likes this wine: 91 pointsExcellent wine! I enjoyed this with a filet with blue cheese sauce. Classic Cab-heavy Bordeaux. Drinking really well and as you'd expect of a Haut-Medoc with 10 years aging. Looking back, this was an excellent QPR purchase at $18.99 from WineAccess. |

10/14/2015 - freedomjim Likes this wine: 91 pointsStill drinking really well!! I opened this to pair with a filet mignon the first night. It went really well as expected: very smooth, classic traits of a Rhone with some age on it. Four days later (yes, 4!), I finished it with baked penne, and it was still quite nice. Great wine. |

1/18/2012 - freedomjim wrote: 92 pointsTerrific wine. Paired well with beef tenderloin medallions, sauteed vegetables, roasted Yukon gold potatoes and creamy bleu cheese sauce. Red and dark fruits in the nose, very balanced palatte, and smooth St. Julien finish. Wished we had more! |

1/17/2012 - freedomjim wrote: 91 pointsSolid Rhone wine. Perhaps it is still somewhat young - on first pour, the finish was slightly harsh. Dark fruit and barnyard on the nose, dense fruit on the palatte and some spice to the finish. After 1st and 2nd hours decanting, the edges smoothed out and it was quite pleasant. Another WineAccess success. This was the first bottle opened after 2 years on cellaring. It clearly has several years to go. |

1/16/2012 - freedomjim wrote: 91 pointsClassic Rhone nose and palatte. We popped this bottle after dinner, on its own. This wine demonstrates what is possible from CDP's neighbor appellation. Solid fruit, a slight peppery finish, and an overall smooth product. Having had this wine in cellar for over 2 years, this was the first bottle opened, and it did not disappoint. I will look forward to later bottles, especially with food. |

2010 Georges Dubœuf Beaujolais NouveauGamay more |
11/20/2010 - freedomjim wrote: 90 pointsReally good wine. Classic Beaujolais, with the freshness of Nouveau. Flowery, filled with light red fruits and that slight bittery twist that gives a pleasant pucker but is not harsh. Unlike some previous notes, my family and I have had several bottles of this and have not been disappointed by any. I think there may be some bottle and/or lot variation out there. - If this is an indication of the 2010 Beaujolais vintage to come, I think there is much to look forward to. The rating reflects both my description and the excellent QPR when purchased for about $8-10. |

12/28/2010 - freedomjim wrote: 90 pointsClassic Rhone ruby color. Intense but medium fruit on the palatte. Slightly jammy texture. Smooth, long finish with a little spice and pepper. This wine is showing very nicely and quite enjoyable. At about $13 on purchase, good QPR. |

12/27/2010 - freedomjim wrote: NRWill not give a rating on this yet. A decent wine, it was somewhat harsh. It got better for a little while and then became harsher. Quite fruity, nice color, but the harsh finish was distracting and detracted from its other good qualities. Perhaps my other bottles will be better. |

6/13/2010 - freedomjim wrote: 91 pointsGreat wine. Aromas of dark fruits and red fruit as well. The palatte follows similarly. A very fruity wine, well-concentrated. It went well with horseradish-encrusted filets with creamy bleu cheese sauce. Quite smooth. I look forward to seeing this wine with some more age on it. |

4/10/2010 - freedomjim wrote: 88 pointsParker's 88 is fair. This is nothing particularly special, but it's a very nice wine that pairs well with food or can be drunk by itself. The mouthfeel is a bit thick, though the palatte is nicely fruity. Drank over three nights, first paired (unconventionally) with Alfredo. Purchased in Kansas, this costs around $22, and if you find it at that price I would recommend you find something else. If it's around $15, then it's worth the price. Still, this is a very good wine in a uniquely shaped bottle. |
