  • Buskvallen Inn
    Perfect provenience.
No decant. Bell pepper, truffles, Marlboro lights and black currant. That’s the nose. On the palate: fruit is fading but a lot of territory aromas. It is svelte despite the vintage. Not as balanced as Cos but not too bad at all. Drinking window for mature wine

  • With Christmas dinner (roast goose): Fully ready to drink. A very satisfying claret. I always worry about the heat of 2003, but I wouldn't be able to tell from this bottle that the year was notably hot -- the wine has freshness and structure and there is no sign of overripeness.

  • Needed decanting and at least an hour to breathe before even being drinkable. Sadly - well past it’s peak.

  • very nice mature st julien bordeaux. PnPed; did not decant; maybe had 15 minutes of air time in the glass. nose was on the muted side but had pretty cherry and raspberry fruit, some tobacco and green bell pepper and dirt tones, soft tannins and medium finish. medium bodied and def a classic claret. paired with a grilled NY Strip.

  • Classic claret nose with some of the intensity dialled up. Heaps of blackcurrant, but never verging into cassis, cedar aplenty, leathery notes with old library books emerging as well. I was expecting much more of a monster than this was - there was really a line of elegance layered throughout. The structure was perhaps a tad weightier, but I would not have guessed this was 2003. I realise my score is significantly higher than most and I have to admit this may either be a very odd bottle (in a good way) or my expectations of something enormous and cooked were so extreme that my surprise has slightly biased this. Definitely a wine of the evening that captured us all.
