2019 Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Stout Reserve RyeIllinois Malt, Grain more |
12/25/2023 - btock wrote: 92 pointsWas offered one of these a couple years past release at its original price and snapped it up. Poured it at a family gathering alongside the base '19 since that comparison was fun the first go around. Definitely lets the pungency of the rye barrel shine through. Barrel char notes more pronounced than on the base beer. Enjoyed here 4yrs post vintage date and I'd say drink 'em now before the underlying cacao notes recede further. |

12/25/2023 - btock wrote: 90 pointsServed with a family member's standing rib roast and this did the trick. Refined and silky. Bottle age treated this well, best showing out of the three bottles. Food friendly and balanced. Garnet coloring, slight cedar notes. Crushed red berry, blind I might have guessed a Medoc. Ready now. |

12/2/2023 - btock Likes this wine: 93 pointsHolding up very nicely. It's been a pleasure to visit this one multiple times. Here, the apple and apricot notes were a bit more pronounced and the acidity more mild. Paired with a clementine and almond flour cake, and that mild backdrop allowed the wine to carry the course. Mature, but delicate on the palate and very enjoyable. Last glass in the bottle enjoyed a day later with some hard cheeses, and that was a delight. |

1998 Château La Tour du Pin Figeac (Giraud-Bélivier)St. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend more |
12/2/2023 - btock Likes this wine: 92 pointsClassy. This was a winner, both in the glass and on the QPR scale. In very good condition, shared among friends alongside some NY Strips. Resolved tannins and balanced in the glass. Garnet coloring, the juicy side of Merlot is present and very enjoyable. The bet was on the vintage since did not have prior experience with the wine and that delivered. In a good drinking window now. |

12/2/2023 - btock wrote: NRThe comeback kid. 2nd bottle a far superior experience than prior opened a few years back. This was intact and showed power and structure. Served against a butternut squash soup dish, but leftovers held up well in the fridge over a couple days too. I understand better now the long projected age the community has given this. Richly textured with golden coloring but not firm and not very sweet. Stone fruit notes that took a bit to unfurl in the glass. Contemplative. A good pair to the soup - the cream and herb notes allowed the wine to take the high notes and cut against the soup. |

11/23/2023 - btock wrote: 89 pointsNice acidity and drier profile. Good composition, would not have guessed domestic if served blind. Opening bottle with salumi on Thanksgiving. Good way to start the meal. Has the structure to last a bit longer. Enjoyed this. |

11/18/2023 - btock wrote: 89 pointsMidweight, drinking fine but ready now. Engaging berry and field blend notes. Soft tannins. Interesting bottle discoloration, maybe it was the Petite in the blend that really stained the glass. Wasn't throwing sediment but the full top and neck of the green glass was stained. |

11/23/2023 - btock wrote: 89 pointsGood pinot berry profile. Red fruited, nicely balanced. Shared with the Thanksgiving meal as a wine named for Happy Gathering is appropriate to do! Young/fresh, but approachable. Will be interested to see if this shows more aromatic diversity with a couple years bottle age. |

11/23/2023 - btock wrote: 87 pointsThis was underwhelming and a bit disappointing. Recalled a rising star type of write up from Garagiste and was looking forward to trying a new producer. They've been a source of interesting and value oriented Chablis but this was dull and fell flat. Not much verve. Also bought the '19 and hope that might be better. As for the '18, drink now. 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

11/24/2023 - btock Likes this wine: 94 pointsMorning bottle share - this was in excellent shape. The coffee notes still lead but had moderated just a touch so that the rest of the stout elements were more in balance. A great pour. Rich, structured and intentional. A worthy variant. |

11/24/2023 - btock Likes this wine: 93 pointsFirst pour at a morning bottle share while waiting for a bourbon and beer release. Wanted to bring something morning themed and this hit the spot. Nicely layered, this is a great rendition, and prob my favorite of all the Founders beers. Delicious from first to last sip. Still holding in a nice place. |

2013 Thomas Pinot Noir Dundee Hillsmore |
11/2/2023 - btock Likes this wine: 92 pointsServed with a pheasant dish, hoping for the earthy background elements of the wine to hit those low notes. Did alright, but the wine still has a firm core, with pomegranate and tart berry. This can continue to coast for a while. Was the first vintage I purchased from John and will be patient with my remaining bottle. |

11/2/2023 - btock Likes this wine: 96 pointsNot sure this could be any better. A true spatlese and elegant composition. This was paired with a celeriac soup and that background really let the fruit notes and juicy acidity of the wine shine. There were many head nods around the table. Pale golden color, fresh and not cloying. A pleasure. |

11/4/2023 - btock Likes this wine: 92 pointsVery approachable. Nicely balanced by still tons of flavor. Tannins are relaxed and at 14.9% it's not a bruiser. Think this vintage offered earlier drinking window than for most Turley Petites. This was in a good spot. |

10/16/2023 - btock Likes this wine: 91 pointsClassy, classic profile. purple berry notes upfront but then nice graphite and silky tannins. Not a blockbuster, but a solid midweight mouthfeel and lithe structure. Had not had this vintage before, so no points of comparison but was a good showing. |

9/16/2023 - btock Likes this wine: 93 pointsA treat to enjoy this with 10yrs of age. Surprisingly intact in terms of carbonation and mouthfeel. Served on a cool fall eve outdoors with friends and the temperature definitely aided enjoyment and the chill on the glass let some of the cacao notes come into focus. |

8/25/2023 - btock Likes this wine: 92 pointsStructured, dark garnet red fruit. Have found the '17 Turley's to have a lot of intensity and this followed suit. Unfurled a bit with air in the glass but tasted younger than its bottle age. A pretty pair for pizza and related on a nice summer's eve patio. Enjoyed this one. |
