  • Midweight, drinking fine but ready now. Engaging berry and field blend notes. Soft tannins. Interesting bottle discoloration, maybe it was the Petite in the blend that really stained the glass. Wasn't throwing sediment but the full top and neck of the green glass was stained.

  • Really enjoyed this, much more than the 2013. On the nose, red fruit, raspberry, wild flowers, rose and liquor. On the palate, sour cherry, raspberry, juicy w nice acidity.

  • Popped and poured; consumed over three days. On the first day, immediately off the pop and pour, this was super primary with dark fruits and sweetly perfumed. However, after a few hours, it sort of went into lock down and became reticent, both on the nose and on the palate. I placed the cork back in the neck of the bottle, took it back down to the cellar and figured I'd give it a day or two. On day three, this was much better as it had re-emerged to display red and dark fruits with exotic spices. Still quite primary though. Tannins were medium and acid is medium+. I gotta be honest though, I don't know what to think of this wine. To be clear, the wine was quite enjoyable and up my alley with bright fruits and wonderful acidity. That being said, a good amount of the acidity was volatile and perhaps just a bit much for my taste. If I had to make a judgment, I would say this is still developing and needs at least another 2-3 years of age to begin showing better. My experience with these Zinfandel blends from School House is that they need time to mature...this might be the toughest to come around that I have encountered yet. If I had more, I would probably not pull the cork on another until 2025.

  • Tasting really good right now !!
Perfect cork about seven years in the bottle. Consumed over two days. This balanced field blend hit some high notes and did not turn to prune juice by day two. Dark red color with little to no oxidation, clarity medium. Aromas of blackberry and fig with a hint of bread yeast. Flavors of bramble berries, plum, and black currant with a hint of chocolate. This Zinfandel blend has a medium to long finish. This balanced wine is composed of 85% Zinfandel, 10% Petite Syrah & 5% Carignane and has many years of life remaining. Great fruit picked and fermented together in open bins and aged in seasoned barrels from a fabled vineyard on Diamond Mountain above the Napa Valley.
