A distinctly Alsatian nose of apple, mirabelle, hard candy, crushed rock and slight herbal tones. The fruit feels canned rather than fresh but it works here. On the palate it is bone dry and fairly broad with very solid acidity. Chiselled for sure. The palate mirrors the nose largely with the herbal side being a bit more prominent here. This is a markedly confident and well-rounded wine with a long finish and great drinkability. Not hugely complex but enjoyable and gastronomic.

Agree with other tasters. This is a solid wine, with good fruit, complexity, and minerality. A nice match with a chicken and vegetable stew

Case recently arrived ex chateau - 1st bottle. Initial opening, very acidic, and I was concerned that it wasn’t ready. However, with dinner after a 2.5 hour decant, the sharp acidity was controlled and the wine was really good with leather, damson and strawberry flavours. The tannins are there, but not intrusively so. There’s a reasonable length of around 20 secs and by the time we finished eating at 3 hours post opening it was drinking beautifully with great fruit flavours. It’s ready given the right preparation and has plenty of good years left. At the price I have just paid, £210 IB, it’s a bargain. Get some in.

Consumed in Montepulciano at il Teatro, run by a very nice guy called Salvatore.

This is exceptional QPR (€42 in the restaurant) from a producer I quite frankly hadnt heard of before.

This could have benefited from a longer decant and more air or a few more years in cellar. However, it was a very pleasant with food.

We visited the Canneto winery the next day by foot and can highly recommend tasting through a few wines there. Not life changing but very nice hosts and good views.

(Chens@BengHiang, w James) Golden Yellow in glass, viscous and bright. Perfume of tropical yellow fruits, white florals, sweet yes, but the acidity! Kyoho grape gummi. Taut and clean, long finish, even an edge of sarawak pepper on the finish. Clean and tight, youthful, this could live decades!

Dense, dark, and intense, almost heavy, with dark fruit. Good nose, if a bit muted. Good tannins, lots of potential.

Loads of lemon and crisp freshness. Mildy rich mid-palate with high acidity and bitterness. With some air and warming up spicy/petrol notes and classic Mosel slatey character. Aftertaste falls a bit short unfortunately as it does not linger on even though acidity is up par. Drink or hold 2025-2028.

Maybe a little richer and more jammy than most Malbecs, but also a little more lush and supple than most I've tried. We really enjoyed it.

This is still fairly youthful and needs a good 45-60 minutes decant at least. Quite fresh and pronounced tannins but excellent food wine.

Hold or drink.

Last vintage of this particular wine. Local producer in Chiusi.

In a very good spot with a modest 13 abv. Nice, elegant, pure fruit. Tannins nicely integrated and subtle acidity. No need to decant. Drink now or hold for a few more years.

A bit heavy on the alcohol, otherwise red fruit with an overlay of cola and spice. I always look for earthiness in a pinot and found none here, but it's a nice enough wine, drinking well. Served with grilled pork chops.

2017 Piedrasassi Syrah Sebastino-Patterson vineyards. 13.5% abv. 100% Syrah. Purchased on release and kept in my cellar. First bottle of six. PnP, poured in a glass and let breathe for a couple of hours. I’ve tasted this before and this doesn’t seem to have evolved much, at least from memory. Both on the palate and on the nose, this still feels quite primary.

On the nose, there is loads of savory herbs (I get a good amount of thyme), olive tapenade, it’s meaty, peppercorns, some black tea, dark fruits, I would say mostly blueberries and maybe some sour cherries. On the palate, there’s more meat, maybe some lamb, some boysenberry, some blueberries, some rosemary, and some black tea. I feel like the palate might be a bit closed at the moment, but that might just be me. Very long, some tannins, medium plus acidity, and medium body. Overall, I will leave these alone for a few more years, maybe wait until the 10-year mark?

(Chens@BengHiang, w James) dark purple with edge of garnet rim. Deep dark berries, black plums, even some cocoa and fresh espresso. Soft sweet leather, warm wood spices. Supple well resolved tannins. Clean purity with effortless power. Structured and leafy, with taut acidity keeping things lifted and tight. No signs of flagging. Layered, translucent and juicy. Phenomenal, but alas my last bottle; good run!

Portuguese white wine from Monção and Melgaço: Alvarinho. 12,5 % alcohol. Fermented and aged, on lees, in stainless steel tanks.

Consumed over two days.

Pale grayish/golden color.

Fresh and delicate aromas of ripe pear, lemon, vanilla, white flowers and minerals. Powerful and fresh flavors of minerals, lime fruit, grapefruit and unripe green apples.

Dry. Medium body. Fresh acidity. Okay balance. Good structure. No complexity.

Short finish with grapefruit.

Day one: A refreshing white wine with a lot of minerality and citrus. Works good both in and with food. 84/100

Day two: Riper and more floral. Better with food (salmon) than on its own. Refreshing and pure. Quite okay. 86/100

Transparent ruby colored wine. A bit like cranberry juice. It smells like strawberry and blueberry, not very strong though. Fresh.
Plenty of fruit, light berries, soft tannins, smooth, light to medium bodied, alcohol is not too noticeable. There are some sweet tones and sufficient acidity. It is fresh and all is nicely in balance. Perhaps, one could call this wine a bit boring because of that. Considering the EUR 14 I paid for this wine, it is very good value. Although the wine has fruit and is fresh, I think it should be drunk within the next three years.

(Chens@BengHiang, w James) Lovely golden lemon in glass, some development yet youthful. Vibrant acidity, balanced tautly with off-dry sweetness, apricots, white fruit and even hints of tropical fruit. Textural, vibrantly edgy and beautifully singing when chilled nicely! Some toasted pastry in the development, in a great place presently. Paired perfectly with Beng Hiang's signature Oyster Omelette, Haezhor, fried meesua and their special XO-sauce!

Darkest red, transparent, youthful --- Nose sea breeze, fresh, mushrooms, elegant wood notes, some bark, some underbrush, unripe plums, cherries, some red currant, some game, olives, cardboard --- Palate fresh, vivid, watery, fruity, red fruit, cherries, herbal and flowery aspects, nice acidity, overall fresh and welcoming, nice tart tone, hint of menthol coming through --- Finishes medium long on its youthful fruity and tart character. Nice vine, easy drinking while so much going on, everything appears balances and shy. This could develop beautifully.

Amazing freshness and lemony, minerally aromas. Reminds me of the Western Australia chardonnays but more open.
Same mouth impressions, with a chalky component as well. This is far from the big Californian chardonnays from the past. More Burgundian in style but not yet the body of them. This is a lovely wine and very well balanced. Could drink this now but there’s a lot more in store if you wait. Will try against a Chassagne and a Yattarna next week…

A good wine and a very solid sub $30 OR PN. Lacks the normal primal earthy funk that I love in a Cameron. Regardless, there are only 3-4 Oregon Pinots at this price point that can run with it. Buy it if you can find it... they don't make it every year.

Paolo Scavino 2020 Tasting (Vintage Conservatory): This was a rather nice wine, however, when you factor in the price ($560 CAD), there are just so many other baroli I would buy before this.

If i had one critique, it would be that it was just a touch hot on the palate.

This wine clearly divides tasters. I think it is as good as ever. My notes for the 2014 (and earlier vintages) would describe this wine quite well.
This was tasted young and fresh; it needed a bit of time to show but had all the fruit, body, acidity, tannin, and spice to be great with beef bourguignon. Big, long, well-extracted and still improving when we finished it a few hours after opening.
It needs time to show its best. Good value. 90 at this stage.

So so good for its level- a sense of ripeness and clarity, pretty floral tones and saturated dark berries, some coffee and pepper. A Northern-leaning Côtes du Rhône but with nice pulpy Grenache character offering easy appeal. Nicely concentrated fruit on the palate, cherry and raspberry with a hint of bitterness and gently claggy tannins building on the finish. Total secret weapon wine- delicious, great with a range of foods (spot on with Turkish and steak) and cheap as chips

The wine looks light gold colored. The legs are fast. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like grapefruit, lemon, raspberry, almond, biscuity, baker's yeast and bready. It tastes like raspberry, grapefruit, lemon, lime, fig, raisin, apple, apricot, peach, pear, plum, mineral, vanilla, apple blossom, orange blossom, peach blossom, almond, walnut, baker's yeast, biscuity, bready and leesy. The body is medium/full. The wine has juicy texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has medium acidity.
