dark yellow. On the sweet side it seems but deep flavor and full bodied. Excellent.

Bottle opened, decanted, and consumed over three hours at Le Phebus restaurant in Provence. Still somewhat primary and tannic, though clearly performing well today with beautiful medium-weight red fruit, bramble, garrigue, and earthiness. I'd guess five years away from true peak. Lived up to high expectations.

Jean-François Germain's wines are designed for aging, which means that more often than not they give their best only a couple of hours after opening. This is clearly the case for this bottle. Upon opening, the wine exhales of citrus, lime pie, honeysuckle, a hint of honey, but is a bit subdued in the mouth, with a spherical feeling that is typical of Morgeots, but overall a bit strict. After two hours, it opens up greatly, with a very nice, round and long finish, a rich and delicate texture. My feeling is that it is only the beginning and that it should age well for at least 5 more years - only problem is that it is apparently my last bottle!

Color was transparent with light brown edge - but very healthy. On the nose lots of red fruit with hints of spice. Palate LOTS of acid - red and black fruit with spice and tiny hints of oak. Medium long but very balanced. Could hold another 5-10 years.

At Le Mas Les Eydins in Bonnieux. This was on the reductive end of the spectrum but really vibrant and showing beautifully immediately from the cork being pulled. It was flinty, with nose of river stone and fine seasoning from the barrel toast. On the palate you have intense concentration with a lingering effect. But the wine is lithe with fresh squeezed lemon juice and a light oily character. Reminded me a lot of Caroline Morey’s whites.

Possibly a 92. But I also enjoyed with good friends while seeing the Northern Lights for the first time in my life, so....trying to keep that in perspective to how I am enjoying this. Either way, this was a standout wine. See why everyone raves about it. Solid all around.

First time I've had this that's been disappointing. Tonight it feels like the fruit has faded away quite significantly relative to previous bottles.
Pleasant broad/fatness to the texture to the mouthfeel but it's missing flavour other than a rather reserved lemon character and some oak spice.
Not objectively bad, just sad given how much I've enjoyed this previously.

A suivre

This is young and austere, very McMinnville. Lots of lavender and mint on the nose, then cinnamon and cola with more air. On the palate, sour cherry and chalky mineral are clamped down by wild, drying tannin. Needs a few years at least, but probably 10.

Very very solid, classic Brunello with fruity yet complex taste, smooth tannins. At its peak I’d think. Benefits from decant.

Echo in Pane e Vino commented this wine not as a typical Burgundy white, too many tropical fruits.

Aromas of black over blue berries, brambles, slightly spirituous alcohol prickle lends peppery notes, baked earth, touches of whole bunchy carbonic fruit prettiness, with time a tiny touch of farmyard. Juicy tends to medium plus intensity acidity, finely tooled tannins offer a powdery rasp, fruit fresh and slightly dilute, black hued, that slightly farmyard note appears here as well lending savoury complexity. Nice.

I was warned off buying this one as 2017 was such a difficult year in MR but this turned out to be excellent. One of the best reds I've had this year. Rated 96 points by Erin Larkin who's opinion I value greatly. Plenty of life left, 10-15 years for sure.

Cranberries, redcurrant, hints of spice like nutmeg and a mild floral note. The prior note mentions a cotton candy element, and that tracks for me as well, although it's more on the nose, not the palate.
It took an hour for this to open up, and it continued to improve over the next few hours until the end of the bottle.
On the lighter side of medium bodied but a bit strong with alcohol, the decant helped a lot to balance the flavors. It finishes with a bit of a white pepper note, but overall is smooth with minimal tannins and moderate acidity.
This was paired with a dinner of fullblood wagyu bavette from two different purveyors(a preplanned taste comparison), roasted bell pepper stuffed with duxelle, and a sheet pan medley of roasted root vegetables. I think this bottle was not quite robust enough to stand up to such fare, but on its own it was admirable.
This is the second bottle of a Caduceus vintage we've tried, and it is a distinct improvement.

When my friend and I were in Montalcino last year, I think we pretty much agreed that the visit to Marino Colleoni was the most rewarding and that Marino's 2019 Brunelli from barrel were the most impressive wines we tried. Especially the 2019s impressed even if the 2020s and 2021s did as well, probably partly because they were closest to bottling. I would also like to say that it was Santa Maria that was the strongest, even that may have been influenced by the fact that we had just stood and looked out over the mist-shrouded little slope that is Vigna Santa Maria (Poggio Sant'Arna is much further away, not exactly outside the winery) .

I remember the clear, clean fruit from the visit and thankfully it has survived the bottling. This is easily the cleanest, most elegant and drinkable Brunello I've had from Marino (ok, the total number isn't very high though). But it may also be the most Burgundian Brunello I've ever drunk. There's actually more of a kinship here to Carleone’s Il Guercio 2020 from last week than I'd thought beforehand.

On the nose fine florality and scent of herbs, like poking your nose among freshly picked wild flowers, standing on a gravel road outside the Montalcino city walls.

In the taste light berries, raspberries, strawberries and cherries. A little almond pulp, violets, roses and mint, against a stony and slightly salty base. The acidity is clear but elegant, the tannins take off with air but also become respectable only in a finely grained way.

Absolutely brilliant wine! I was a little shaky to open a bottle because in the memory of the visit it has become almost mythically good, but it is almost as good as I remember it.

Our last bottle from this vintage. Four years old but still as fresh as a daisy. Typical Marlborough grassiness. If you like the style then you can be confident of a lovely wine. My only quibble would be the vfm - you pay for the brand name.

Back up 2006. Roses, dark red fruit, some stinky earth at first that mostly blew off. After a few hours very pretty. Palate dark fruited, still fairly tannic, though a little drying. Good dark long finish, not the best showing but after 2 hours a ton of depth and intensity.

Drunk from 375ml. Decanted for an hour and consumed over the following hour. Tightly wound upon opening but with a nice nose. Not as favourable on the palate. Does it need some more time? Would be better suited to pair with food than drink alone. Prefer the 2019.
