Slightly overripe stonefruit fruit with an almost peach cobbler character with the combination of overripe fruit, vanilla and baking spice , and a clotted cream malolactic flavour and texture.
A little past its best given how ripe the fruit was, definitely rich rather than fresh, but in its mature stage it was still lovely with soft cheese.

Look, I like it and it is a very well made wine but I just can’t get too excited. Made in an old school style it feels, fairly well balanced but a little heavy on the toasty oak. Fruit holding up well and tannins fine and thread the wine nicely. Dark plummy and blackberry fruit, black olives, firm oak. I can’t see it improving but I don’t feel it will fall over in a hurry either. Under cork.

Unlike the multi-regional Rosado Reservado, this new label is 100% Baga only from Bairrada. 11,5% alcohol.

Quite intense, medium-deep salmon-pink color. The nose feels youthful, fresh and precise with aromas of crunchy apples, some leesy tones, a little bit of melon and a hint of zesty citrus fruit. The wine feels dry, racy and slightly linear on the palate with a medium body and bright flavors of fresh red apples, some saline mineral tones, a little bit of crunchy red currant, light citrus fruit nuances and a hint of incisive steely character. The wine feels brisk and structured with its high acidity. The finish is dry, firm and quite acid-driven with a moderately long, palate-cleansing aftertaste of fresh raspberries and crunchy redcurrants, some saline mineral tones, a little bit of ripe lemony citrus fruit, light crunchy notes of apple and a hint of steely minerality.

A tasty and refreshing little rosé with good sense of freshness and intensity. However, the overall feel is a bit linear and anonymous - while wonderfully fresh, the wine lacks the magic of the Rosado Reservado. Unlike its fantastic bigger brother, which has a rather idiosyncratic character of its own, this wine feels more like a, say, Bandol rosé with an extra dose of refreshing acidity. A good rosé in its own right, but nothing out of ordinary. Good value at 21€ for a bottle in the Curia Palace Hotel restaurant.

Definetely not the best Vintage of this wine. A bit flat and a lot of acidity. Flowers in the smell, but not in the taste, misses the freshness of other years.

Two hour decant. Very deep dark intense ruby magenta color. Stewed plum, blackberry, Oreo cookie, tobacco, and black pepper. Dry, spicy, full bodied palate, with good acidity. Full, satiny tannins on the longish finish.

This is a fun drinker. Comes across a touch overripe, but otherwise it’s your classic Bevan intense Napa CS.

A blend of Maria Gomes and Bical from estate vineyards in Bairrada and purchased Encruzado from Dão. Fermented and aged for 12 months in new 300-liter French oak barrels. 13,5% alcohol.

Golden, pale-to-medium-deep straw color. The complex nose feels sweet-toned and slightly evolved with rich, quite buttery aromas of lemon marmalade, some bruised apple, light perfumed floral tones, a little bit of browned butter and sweet toasty oak tones, exotic hints of fresh mango and ripe pineapple and a touch of cantaloupe. The wine feels broad, rich and complex on the palate with a full body and juicy flavors of ripe yellow stone fruits, some creamy oak tones, a little bit of browned butter, light exotic fruit notes of mango and cantaloupe, a hint of saline minerality and a touch of toasty oak spice. A rich, complex and quite hedonistic white that feels surprisingly similar to a Viña Tondonia Blanco, only with quite a bit more noticeable oak impact. I was quite surprised how pronounced the new oak characteristics still were, even at the age of almost 8 years. However, it feels like age had helped the wine to develop some tertiary complexity and integrate those oaky tones better with the fruit, so the wine is obviously evolving in the right direction. Despite the evolved tones it feels as though this wine is still on an upward trajectory and will continue to develop and improve for many years more. I'd let the wine age for another handful of years, just to let the oaky tones integrate even more. Good value at 65€ for a bottle in the Curia Palace Hotel restaurant.

60% Grenache, 21% Shiraz 19% Mataro (Mourvèdre), from a tricky, low harvest year in the Barossa Valley. Smooth, fruity and strong, forest floor and damp earth notes. Had it with bbq beef, which was a solid pairing.

Pure deep red and glossy.
Ripe plums and berries with a lovely crushed herb and spice bouquet.
Silky smooth texture, glides across the palate. Seems weightless, plenty of extremely fine tannins, very fine acidity, a long super smooth finish. Fleshy but not heavy, delicious ripe plum and cassis with a fine seam of dark tar spice. Drinking beautifully, aged ahead of it.

Excellent work by Felton on this. When people mention the need for a 3hr decant, I don’t disagree.

The nose is tight and wound with potent ripe strawberry, spice box and Szechuan pepper. The palate is layered, complex, with grippy tannin.

I really messed up drinking it this young, drank this one for ‘science’. Really could go easily another 15-25yrs in 75cl. Magnums could be near timeless.

The reviews of this vintage are fine but, with one exception, they don't give much sense of whether people actually enjoyed what they had the dread duty of drinking. As Faith No More once sang 'It's a dirty job, but someone's got to do it!'

I have enjoyed several bottles of this from my local, usually awful, chain liquor store. Every time I have it, I want to guzzle it and I usually do. If this does not give you a blood curdling erection (or female equivalent, if you are one) and a case of raging desire then one must question whether you need to have someone hold you down and make you listen to Soft Machine's 1968 classic 'Why Are We Sleeping?'. Why, indeed. Wake up, get some wood and guzzle this whilst banging the nearest thing from pillar to post. 'Bella, ciao' should be your musical guide as you finish this wine, especially appropriate for this region.

First ever Malvasia for me, and this one is from Istria in Croatia.

Golden yellow, hints of apricot, caramel and orange peel, a bit shy at first and if served too chilled.

On the palate; medium to light bodied, again a nice blend of apricot, caramel, orange peel and melon in the background.

The latter part is quite enjoyable to savour, as it slowly builds up, with a spicy and somewhat bitter (astringent) finale.

This is a nicely balanced and quite elegant wine, an aquired taste, one that grew on me as it were. In short, a new and interesting aquaintance, and good value for money.

I would recommend that this wine be given some time to breath, at least one hour. This one being a 2018 vintage, I think it has reached its peak, more or less.

C'est une première pour moi, ce Malvoisie (Malvasia) originaire d'Istrie en Croatie.

Jaune doré, au nez notes d'abricot, du caramel et d'écorce d'orange, pourtant un peu timide au début et s'il est servi trop frais.

En bouche ; mi-corsé à léger, et là aussi des notes pareil qu'au nez, avec du melon (cantaloup) en arrière-plan.

La dernière partie est assez agréable, car elle se construit lentement, avec une belle finale épicée et quelque peu amère (astringente).

C'est un vin bien équilibré et d'une certaine élégance, un goût acquis on va dire. Bref, une nouvelle connaissance intéressante, et d'un bon rapport qualité/prix.

Je recommanderais d'airer ce vin, au moins une heure. Celui-ci étant un millésime 2018, je pense qu’il a plus ou moins atteint son apogée.

The lemon is to the fore once again but liking it this time around. More in the Chablis style this is a great wine when it gets some age. Now a 10 year old Chardonnay. Light lemon and grass nose. Had with roast chicken.

Klugi Wine's review nails the characters of this wine and they accord with other, professional reviews of this vintage of this wine. One thing I might be able to add to the reviews is that the tannins are a true beauty in this wine. They are that mysterious thing, fully ripe tannins, where the bitter is, of course there, but under that is sweetness and nuttiness and they verge on being the star of the show, not the surly understudy.

Cotta is the Sottimano family's oldest vineyard and the vines average 50- 70 years. As with most of the Neive sub-region, Cotta produces wine that is closer to Barolo in structure and attitude.

I think the combination of maker, cru and the wonderful 2019 vintage has produced a wine that offers pleasure now, but that will evolve and improve over the years and I expect this vintage will vie with 2016 for 'vintage of the decade' status. It is a competition I look forward to judging, hopefully with more wisdom than Paris.

Brilliant. Mature + at a peak, showcasing the finest attributes of the extraordinary '82 vintage.
Deep resonant nose of black, blue, and red berries on a mocha cigar box stage.

If a date, this was Playboy meets Penthouse at a Harvard social.

Years of brilliance left, but don't wait to indulge your fantasies

Bouteille ouverte plusieurs heures en avance. Nez timide mêlant notes encore fruitées et notes tertiaires. Boisé bien intégré. La bouche a de jolis tanins soyeux mais manque considérablement de chaire et de profondeur. Creux, ennuyeux et court, trop court ! À revoir...

Once the bubbles and the structure settled after 2 hours in the glass.. it became less carbonated on the structure and more like a red wine juice. The finishing was light.

2016 Château Moulin-Borie Listrac-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
One of purchase from Aldi for £10.99 in early 2024. Bright red fruits and ground pepper on the nose. With air the faintest hint of pomegranate and a little grated milk chocolate. Palate is taut with suggestions of clove, a little smoke too. Tannins still need time but are on the way to resolving. Great accompaniment to lamb from the Black Pig in Deal.
