Introduction

September's theme was white Burgundy, with the headliner being a Ramonet Montrachet. All wines were served blind, in 4 flights of 4.

Flight 1 (4 notes)

White
2007 J.M. Boillot Puligny-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet
Tasted blind. Lemon, minerals, lime, zest. A bit reduced. Citrus, lemon and green apple on the body; focused with lots of acid, which continues prominently through the finish.
White
1996 Domaine de L'Arlot Nuits St. Georges Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges
Tasted blind. Chalk, hay, anise. Rounder body, nice lemon/lime flavors along with citrus zest and minerals. Nice richness balanced out with medium-plus acid on the finish.
White
2015 Quinta Essentia Chenin Blanc South Africa, Coastal Region, Stellenbosch
Tasted blind. Definite oak impact, surrounded by warm fruit and melon; exotic, in a way. Round and rich on the palate. Lemon, citrus, oyster shells. Fine tannins, and mouthcoating finish, with great fresh acidity. A ringer in a Chardonnay tasting, this was quite a nice surprise!

White
2008 Etienne Sauzet Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
Tasted blind. Show it's age on the nose, with a bit of oxidation. Nuts, almond, honey, wood. Citrus, green apple, ginger on the body. Fine tannins with good acidity. Lovely.

Flight 2 (4 notes)

White
2010 Joseph Drouhin Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
flawed
Tasted blind. I detected a bit of TCA on this, which definitely had an impact on the wine. Not showing well for me, which was disappointing because what was there seemed to indicate it could have been really nice.
White
2014 Aubert Chardonnay Sugar Shack USA, California, Napa Valley, Rutherford
Tasted blind. Prominent oak, with lemon and apple on the nose. Clean, fresh and zesty acidity. Lime, bitter zest, glycerol. Lengthy finish. Lots of tannin. A big wine overall but plenty of acid to balance it out.
White
1996 Domaine Ramonet Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Ruchottes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Tasted blind. Intense mint (specifically, those "After Eight" chocolate mints!) and creme brulee on the nose. A bit of campfire and marshmallow thrown in for good measure, too. Tart yellow fruit, a bit simple on the finish. Richer texture, almost like a dessert wine.
White
2003 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru Bougros France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Tasted blind. Showing lots of age already, nutty and mature. Minerals, oak, a bit sherry-like. Elegant finish with medium-plus length.

Flight 3 (4 notes)

White
2010 Joseph Drouhin / Drouhin-Vaudon Chablis Grand Cru Vaudésir France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Tasted blind. Big nose, rich with dense fruit. Beautiful. Lots of fruit, citrus, apple. Great acidity. Definitely showing Grand Cru quality, such a beautiful and elegant wine.
White
2014 Bouchard Père et Fils Meursault Les Clous France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
Tasted blind. Minerals and rocks to start. Lemon/lime zest, with lovely floral spice notes. Fresh and bright, almost mistakable for Chablis. Perhaps some oak influence lends a nice softness to the palate.
White
2005 Domaine Chandon de Briailles Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Tasted blind. Reduced and smoky, with a bit of sweet perfume on top. Richer texture, with green apple and saline. Finishes with zesty acidity.
White
2013 Philippe Pacalet Puligny-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet
Tasted blind. Muted nose. Fresh and light with lots of white flowers. Elegant and round; a bit simple but enjoyable.

Flight 4 (4 notes)

White
2009 Evening Land Vineyards Chardonnay La Source Seven Springs Vineyard USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Eola - Amity Hills
Tasted blind. Definite oak influence, but nicely integrated into the whole package. Citrus, green apple, and lots of fresh acidity. Elegant all around, well balanced, and a great example of OR Chardonnay!
White
2011 François Raveneau Chablis Grand Cru Valmur France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Tasted blind. Flowers, oyster shell. Rich and powerful, with a beautifully balanced body. Elegant, lovely.

Tasted blind. Wow, beautiful. Starts with toast and oak, then leads into a body of rich lemon/lime and citrus fruit. Beautifully integrated, with a persistent finish. Great balance.

White
2010 Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clavoillon France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
Tasted blind. Cotton candy and anise on the nose. A beautiful elegance and depth on the body. Excellent balance with great acidity and a nice intensity. Still young with plenty of life ahead.
