Flight 1 (1 note)

White - Sparkling
N.V. Diebolt-Vallois Champagne Cuvée Prestige Blanc de Blancs France, Champagne
90 points
Magnum, 2012 base. This is lovely. Fresh, nuanced, rounded. Very drinkable. repays a couple of years in the cellar. ***1/2

Flight 2 (5 notes)

White
2011 Equipo Navazos Vino de Mesa de Andalucía Navazos-Niepoort Spain, Andalucía, Vino de Mesa de Andalucía
90 points
Retains its classic palomino nose. A little more evolved, and a bit richer than when last tasted four years ago. Smoother too. Finishes well. ***1/2
White
2013 L.A.S Vino CBDB Chenin Blanc Dynamic Blend Australia, Western Australia, South West Australia, Margaret River
90 points
As previous bottles, fun and interesting. Lovely Chenin with Viognier and Sauvignon top notes. Went down well. ***1/2
White
2008 Provins Petite Arvine Maitre de Chais Switzerland, Valais, Sion
88 points
Mid to full straw. This has aged nicely. Quite a rich nose that follows through to mid-palate texture after almost a hint of RS on the attack, but nicely dry through the finish. There's quite a bit here for a modest wine. ***
White
2014 J.L. Chave Sélection St. Joseph Circa France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, St. Joseph
87 points
Only briefly noted, similar to previous bottle. Didn't have the development or complexity of the Petite Arvine, but qualitatively probably not too dissimilar. ***
White
2002 R. López de Heredia Rioja Blanco Viña Gravonia Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alta, Rioja
88 points
This bottle struck me as being a little dilute and less complex than previous ones. Typical Gravonia profile though. ***

Flight 3 (13 notes)

Red
2014 Norman Hardie Pinot Noir Unfiltered Canada, Ontario, Niagara Peninsula, Niagara Peninsula VQA
89 points
Bright and lively. Slightly sour cherry and cranberry fruit. Nicely ripe and light. This has put on a little weight in bottle over the past eighteen months. Bright finish. 11.4abv. Top ***

2015 JH Meyer Signature Wines Pinot Noir Palmiet South Africa, Cape South Coast, Elgin
90 points
As per previous bottle of this, bright and vibrant, mid red fruit. Silky texture. Fills out on the mid-palate and finishes freshly. I've enjoyed previous releases but this does seem the best so far. ***1/2
Red
2011 Bodega Chacra Pinot Noir Cincuenta y Cinco Argentina, Patagonia
92 points
First bottle from a case and it's a cracker. Light, bright mid red fruit with some strawberry and cranberry. Lovely freshness. Again, some mid-palate weight, but long and nuanced, good line with bright acidity. Tannins silky soft and resolved. Lots of interest here. ****

2013 Brick House Pinot Noir Select Ribbon Ridge USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Ribbon Ridge
88 points
Consistent with previous bottles. Quite sappy red fruit on the attack with reasonable mid-palate density and interest. Very decent, though lacking the interest of, for instance, the Chacra alongside. ***
Red
1999 Bouchard Père et Fils Beaune 1er Cru Teurons France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru
89 points
2/12. Very Beaune. Similar to a bottle almost two years ago. Minerally, red fruited Beaune character. Tannins pretty much resolved now. Redcurrant and a touch of orange zest. ***
Red
1999 Domaine Tollot-Beaut Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Lavières France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru
88 points
First of a half case. It's starting to get there, but the vibrant Savigny fruit is still partially held in by a gravelly, minerally wrapper. ***
Red
1999 Nicolas Potel Volnay Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay
90 points
12/12. These have provided lovely drinking since first broaching the case a decade ago. Smooth, floral, sousbois. Undemanding pleasure. Time to think about moving on to the 1ers. ***1/2
Red
2007 Domaine Chandon de Briailles Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Ile des Vergelesses France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru
93 points
Just as good as a bottle last month. So silky, and polished and sweet-fruited. Beautiful. ****

2002 Domaine Jean Grivot Nuits St. Georges Les Lavières France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges
92 points
Maturing nicely. The darker red fruit now mellowing and showing good sous-bois development. A tiny hint of caramel on the nose but none on the palate. Fresh acidity combines with the redder fruit elements to drive though to quite a long finish. A touch of meat too. Showing very well and back on form after a slightly surly couple of years. ****
Red
2011 Domaine Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin Vieille Vigne France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
91 points
Mmm, this has picked up over the past four years. The usual Fourrier fizz, but less reductive from the off with a lovely, bright red fruit character. Nicely sour cherry and redcurrant but with some earthier notes starting to develop. ****
Red
2011 Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg Vosne-Romanée France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée
91 points
Back on form after a slightly surly bottle eighteen months ago. Dark, glossy spicy Vosne fruit in a densely silky, almost velvety frame. Long. Lovely. ****
Red
2012 Kutch Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
91 points
Not really noted other than along the lines of a recent previous bottle, so quite plush, denser than the Brick House but not overdone, but just more mid palate complexity and interest. Darker fruited too. ****
Red
2007 Craggy Range Pinot Noir Bannockburn Sluicings New Zealand, South Island, Otago, Bannockburn
87 points
Served last, this really stands out as a bruiser compared with what came before. dark, thick, ripe and slightly jammy. I think my tolerance for these things has gone down since drinking my other bottle of this eight years ago. Maybe also better in its youth? Anyway, perfectly correct for what it is, but I've had better/more interesting 14%abv pinots from Oregon of late. ***

Flight 4 (3 notes)

White - Sweet/Dessert
2010 Molino Real MR Mountain Wine Spain, Andalucía, Málaga
90 points
Light, fresh and grapey. This has held well and even put on a little complexity over the past couple of years. ***1/2
Red - Sweet/Dessert
2009 Las Perdices Malbec Ice Argentina, Mendoza, Lujan de Cuyo, Agrelo
89 points
Raspberry, a touch of leather. Sweet but not cloying. Really quite interesting and more than a curiosity. ***
White - Sweet/Dessert
2003 Château Rieussec France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
86 points
Oh dear, this really is going downhill. It's lost the creamy sweet coconut and has taken on a far more medicinal, vin de liqueur profile. My previous note from six years ago suggested this improved after ten days of air, reverting to it's former self. Fingers crossed... bare *** currently... but with a few days of air (as was the previous bottle) this is back to close to its old self. Not medicinal. Creamy coconut and tropical fruit. A closed phase? Whatever, it needs opening a couple of days in advance currently.
