N.V. Pierre Péters Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Cuvée de Réserve France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
91 points
Nose: The nose is bright and fresh with peaches, apples, pears, almonds, saline, crushed rocks, white flowers, biscuits, and some warm bread.

Taste: The feel is Medium bodied with crisp, high acidity. The feel is well balanced and fresh with peaches, apples, pears, almonds, crushed rocks, white flowers, biscuits, and warm bread.

Overall: I didn't get the base vintage on it, but it was the current release. This is one of my favorite NV Blanc de Blancs and it still remains that.

1989 Les Cailloux (Lucien et André Brunel) Châteauneuf-du-Pape France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
94 points
Nose: The nose is deep, complex, and funky with tobacco, black cherries, black raspberries, white pepper, all sorts of savory notes, leather, earth, licorice, garrigue, and violets. This took a few swirls to wake up and when it did, it was lights out!

Taste: The feel is Medium bodied with resolved, medium tannins and medium acidity. The feel is pure silk and enjoyment with black cherries, black raspberries, garrigue, white pepper, savory notes, earth, leather, and violets.

Overall: This is a gorgeously funky Chateauneuf du Pape that is right in its pomp. There is an immense amount of depth and complexity with the feel being silky and long.
White
2014 Ramey Chardonnay Ritchie Vineyard USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
92 points
Nose: The nose is on the richer side, but it is far from overdone with red apples, vanilla, custard, spiced pears, yellow flowers, marshmallow, marmalade, and brioche tones. There is good depth and balance even with it being on the larger scale.

Taste: The feel is full bodied with well-balanced, medium acidity. There is excellent texture and balance to the feel with red apples, custard, spiced pears, yellow flowers, marshmallow, and brioche tones.

Overall: This is excellent stuff that is right at its peak. There is excellent texture to the feel with good depth across the nose and palate.
Red
2006 Fattoria Poggio di Sotto Brunello di Montalcino Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
95 points
Nose: There is so much perfume and elegance with dark red cherries, strawberries, raspberries, violets, wild spices, licorice, earth, leather, tobacco, crushed rocks, savory tones, and freshly tilled earth. There is a great amount of depth and layering that allows you to get lost in the glass.

Taste: the feel is Medium/full bodied with crisp, medium+ acidity and silky, medium+ tannins. There is still youth to the structure but it is starting to pull back. The feel is deep and pure satin with dark red cherries, raspberries, strawberries, leather, wild spices, licorice, violets, and freshly tilled earth.

Overall: This is a knockout of a Brunello. I expected a lot of this wine and it completely delivered. It's a real joy to drink right now after about 1-2 hours of air and it will still age gracefully for years to come.

Nose: Finally the nose is open and this time it's fully ready for business filling the glass with black cherries, raspberries, blackberries, licorice, tobacco, mesquite, hot stones, violets, leather, and black currants. There is excellent depth with an emerging savory quality to it.

Taste: The feel is Medium/full bodied with silky, medium+ tannins and medium acidity. There is a good bit of weight to the feel but it is also well balanced with black cherries, raspberries, blackberries, mesquite, tobacco, leather, hot stones, and violets.

Overall: I've been waiting for a long time to come across a bottle of 05 Beaucastel that is drinking. And I'm completely glad it finally happened as it was utterly worth it. There is a real dark and searching side to it along with a great, lengthy finish.

2010 No Girls Syrah USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Walla Walla Valley
93 points
Nose: The nose is rich, but balanced and filled with licorice, blackberries, black cherries, menthol, black olives, black raspberries, liqueur tones, violets, and some peppery notes. There is excellent depth and this feels a bit tamed down from where it likely was.

Taste: The feel is full bodied with medium acidity and silky, medium tannins. The structure is in a great place right now as it is only there for framing. The feel is lush and balanced with blackberries, black cherries, menthol, black raspberries, pepper tones, black olives, and violets.

Overall: This is some pretty sexy stuff right now. It's not what I would always reach for, but I really appreciate how good this is as the fruit is deep and balanced.

2010 Cayuse God Only Knows USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Walla Walla Valley
91 points
Nose: The nose is lush and balanced with dark red cherries, strawberries, red currants, purple fruits, roses, licorice, liqueur tones, white pepper, and raspberries. The nose is very upfront and red fruited but it does lack some depth and is a bit one-dimensional.

Taste: The feel is Full bodied with medium acidity and resolved, medium tannins. The structure is in the background now and the feel is lush and forward with dark red cherries, strawberries, raspberries, red currants, licorice, white pepper, and roses.

Overall: This feels like it's about as good as it can get. There are a lot of red fruits that are accompanied by some savory notes, but it does lack some depth on both the nose and palate.

White - Sweet/Dessert
2013 Château d'Yquem France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
98 points
Nose: The nose is immensely deep and explosive. There is so much going on that the tones of apricots, peaches, quince, nectarines, red apples, acacica flowers, vanilla, cinnamon, creams, and some custard. This was a stop you in your tracks nose that left me shaking my head.

Taste: The feel is full bodied with crisp, high acidity. The acidity cuts like a hot knife and provides great tension while the feel is plush, refined, and deep with apricots, peaches, nectarines, quince, red apples, creams, vanilla, and some custard.

Overall: It's shocking how good this is already. There is so much depth and class that is quintessential D'Yquem along with impeccable balance. This was a real delight and I would love to re-visit this in the years down the road.

Nose: This is about as classic as it gets with raisins, raspberries, red cherries, chocolate, licorice, cranberries, and liqueur tones. There is excellent depth right now and it is wide open for business.

Taste: The feel is full bodied with silky, medium+ tannins. The structure is pretty well resolved right now and the feel is dense with raisins, raspberries, red cherries, cranberries, chocolate, and liqueur tones.

Overall: This is ready to go. It threw some sediment (as expected) and was a complete classic vintage port that showed off great balance and depth with red fruits.

2012 Bodegas Muga Rioja Selección Especial Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alta, Rioja
92 points
Nose: The nose is seamless and favoring the sour side with raspberries, sour red cherries, cranberries, pencil lead, tobacco, violets, leather, and some earth tones. There is excellent depth while also showing off a restrained power.

Taste: The feel is Medium/full bodied with crisp, medium+ acidity and chewy, medium+ tannins. The structure is still youthful, but it isn't in the forefront. The feel is poised and balanced with sour red cherries, raspberries, cranberries, pencil lead, earth tones, and violets.

Overall: This is drinking beautifully, but there is still plenty of life ahead for it. There is an understated power behind it along with excellent depth and class.
