Jamie and Linda’s Excellent Wine Adventure

Country Club of Florida

Tasted April 22, 2023 by jlgnml with 63 views

Introduction

This was an auction dinner for 10 with several donated wines. The excellent meal was prepared by Chef Tony, Sommelier service by John and staff choreographed by Dave. The meal was off the charts good and so were the wines.

Flight 1 (1 note)

Meet and greet outside in the Florida sunshine. Just as we entered for dinner the rain started.

White - Sparkling
2005 Dom Pérignon Champagne France, Champagne

Extremely fresh, vibrant in the glass, great way to start a wine dinner.

Flight 2 (1 note)

Hogfish Crudo
Avocado, Linpme, Pineapple, CCF Honey, Cilantro, Chives, Habanero Oil, Coconut Gel, Crispy Shallots

White - Sparkling
1995 Philipponnat Champagne Brut Clos des Goisses France, Champagne
92 points
Not the best btl, darker toasty color, slight ox, small pour, good finish, especially with the dish. It may be me but a btl of champagne is really for 6 people or less.

Flight 3 (1 note)

Trio Foie Gras
Brioche Foie, Fig & Foie , Foie Crème Brûlée

White - Sweet/Dessert
1976 Château d'Yquem France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
96 points
Served at the beginning of the meal with Foie Gras and then at the end with a fruit based dish. The difference between the courses was the development and coming out of a cocoon the wine had. The change was noticeable from some sharpness on the first glass and a smooth finish, gripping the palate as you swallowed it. Drink or hold.

Flight 4 (2 notes)

Sea Urchin
Sweet Potato Undo Noodles, Dashi, Shitake, Fine Cut Vegetables.

White
1989 Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
93 points
Beautiful youthful color, very good nose, weight on the palate, a gem to try. Drink.
White
2009 Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru

Super exited to compare between the ‘89 and ‘09. Lots of evolution in the glass. More weight as time went by. Long finish. Hold 3-5 years.

Flight 5 (2 notes)

A5 Wagyu Steak
Artichoke Barigolemand Morel Fondue, Celeriac

Red
2004 Harlan Estate The Maiden USA, California, Napa Valley
96 points
This had bones, fruit, color, palate weight, just plain delicious. Served with A5 Wagyu. Yum. Drink to enjoy

Small pour, deep color, with some other grapes, almost Bordeaux like with some sweetness. Drink

Flight 6 (1 note)

Domestic Lamb Loin
Crispy Potato and Crepe Purse

Red
1990 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage
97 points
Deep earthy flavors on both the nose and the palate. Very rich, going thru more changes than prior btls. Tour de France example of an aged Rhône. Could wait and see as I have one more btl. 😎

Flight 7 (0 notes)

Mango Pana Cotta, BlackBerry Pate Fruit, Frozen Banana Espuma, Macadamia Streusel

Drank with the other half of the D’Yquem. Wow
