A truly exceptional bottle of wine. I have generally held these bottles for a rainy day... anticipating that extended cellaring was required. After conversation with the winemaker and his wife, I decided to give it a try! A unique mouthfeel, tremendous fruit from an incredible site, and obviously the product of a winemaker who is willing to let a wine reveal itself without any significant manipulation!

So very happy to have some of these wines stashed from when they were (at least by todays terms) affordable. Definitely the "first growth" of the Southern Hemisphere. For me Grange is to Australia what Margaux is to Bordeaux, Gaja is to Piedmont, LeFlaive is to White Burgundy. Distinctive and magnificent!

I believe this is our last bottle of the old guard wines under this label. Glorious from the first sip, delicate fruit, silky tannin, extremely expressive... and demonstrated staying power thru a second evening! I believe they have recycled the same name but for a lesser wine these days! Exceptional!

Magnificent bottle of wine just coming into its own. At first it has strong notes of coffee. It evolves into a rich ripening mocha/chocolate note. There are layers of subtle complexity. I regret that within two hours of opening it was gone. I would give it another 3-5 years of improvement, and then a long period of quality drinking.

It i upsetting to think this is this last bottle. So gorgeous. Maybe at its peak... but it did continue to get better, Soft blueberry and boysenberry. Delicate tannins. Rose petal and and a hint of eucalyptus on the nose.

This is a wine that might continue to improve. One of the terrific upper tier wines of Alban Vineyards it is a Rhone style wine of incredible depth, fruit, floral and mineral tones. I would consider it one of the finest Rhone style wines in the world.

Just an absolutely fantastic bottle of wine from first to last sip. Tannins silky, fruit still present and vibrant, a combination of casis, blackberries, and a meaty quality. Hints of wildflowers on the nose. An absolute pleasure.

This is just such an enduring and incredible GSM! Really, Aussie or French, bar none! If you don't think these sort of wines age, it is because you lack the patience or the experience. This is subtle, silky, and yet structured! Marvelous wine!

This is what drinking aged wine is really all about! Lively, with enduring acidity... great softer fruit notes... still requiring about an hour of initial decanting. Magnificent in the glass!

This is just a magnificent syrah. So much more life in it... really at the beginning of a wide tasting window... but not missing anything. Perhaps with another 4-5 years of sitting this would be a 98 point wine!

Remarkably durable and evolving Napa Cab. So much depth with structure and yet velvety tannins that the purported 15.6% alcohol is absolutely not an aspect of the flavor profile. Bright red cherries, black currant, sleek, and sweet on the nose.

every once in a while i drink a bottle that reminds me of why Aussie shiraz is a unique and wonderful thing! such incredible and unique purity of fruit... especially when evolved with age! not a hint of heat or overwhelming alcohol!

An absolutely lovely Pichon Baron showing every sign of greatness. I would say far from it's apex this wine may continue to improve just a bit more and remain solid for a number of years.

I feel like I have finally held one of these bottles long enough to get the true quality of the wine! This is one of the best bordeaux blends I have had in a long time. Blind amongst actual Bordeaux wines this would be thought to be a first growth! Incredible.

Grenache Syrah blend from what is I believe the indisputably premiere vineyard in Paso Robles. Not unlike the old vine collaboration going on in the rest of CA, there is such a sense of community and positivity amongst the winemakers of Paso Robles.

This white wine is really special. Hints of saline minerality, stone fruits, delicate and subtle with multiple layers of a unique taste profile.

I started drinking this saying... yes Raul Perez... but what can you really do with Spanish whites? I walk away saying perhaps amongst the best whites I have ever tasted!!!

I find myself reluctant giving a 95 score to anything... if anything I am downplaying the quality of this wine. It gets more and more expensive, but this wine opens up in the glass with so much potent quality, such a sense of place, such terrific multi-layered flavor.
