N.V. Henriot Champagne Brut Souverain Champagne Blend
I'm not sure if this was an older bottle, it was bought as a bin-end, but this tasted wonderfully mature - it was all cooked apple, yeast and all nutty on the finish. Everything was so harmonious and rich. An absolute treat. I see the Wine Society have it for around £35 a bottle which sound like a bargain. Seriously this is one of the best NV champagnes I've had in ages.

I have to say I think the Blanc de Blancs is Nyetimber's best wine. I prefer it to either of the 1086s or the Tillington. This is young but already seriously good.

2/14/23, 2:42 AM - It's certainly one of the best i've had. Cigarette paper between it and Tillington and the 1086s in terms of quality, but not price!

Strangely brilliant... deep amber colour (as befits its age), and immediately unusual on the nose, Sherry-esque but with dirty raw mushroom and a variety of other completely ineffable notes. Lactic on the palate, with some bruised apple, but also plenty of tangy energy, like a lemon/lime fizzy chew bar. Really, really long finish - one of the most persistent wines I've ever tasted, and again lactic, and extremely savoury. Don't think this was flawed or at all dead, but I shan't risk leaving my other bottle much longer.

NOSE: extremely tight; a touch savory; just not giving much at all ---- perhaps a faint blueberry/dark cherry combo.

BODY: light bodied; garnet-violet color of medium-light depth.

TASTE: thin; on the watery side; dried provencal herbs; not funky; medium+ to high acidity; seems shut-down; some drying tannins; alc. not noticeable; not showing well at all, really. If scoring as how this drank today, it would be in the low 80s. I'm hoping it blossoms with cellar time, and it's my understanding this wine typically requires age, so there's hope. HOLD.

1/25/21, 2:48 AM - Thanks for this. I had one of these about a week ago, and didn't post a note. But overall impression was quite similar. Shut down. Not giving a great deal - drunk over a couple of days.

Better than ‘90, ‘96, ‘99 and ‘09, this is legendary. There’s yeasty notes, with golden apple, lemon meringue, pain grille, sweet cream, lilies and fresh orange zest. So much lovely beading and a rich, yet lively body. Just starting to open, this will last many, many years. With all of its wonderful focus, the middle is very panoramic. Drink 2022 -.

Yeah I think this is probably as good as it’s cracked up to be. Pretty nose, white peaches, flowers, whiff of smoke. Palate fine bubbles, rich but poised, touch of bread with the fruit. Cleansing. Long. The future is surely bright.

Day 2: opened up a touch more. Apricot on the nose, saline slight bitter edge on the palate, like apricot skin. It’s delicious now but I imagine there is more to come.

8/14/19, 1:51 AM - I'm not sure i'm well qualified to comment. Just for sheer sophistication and complexity it's a real pleasure to drink today. It's not as tight as the 2009 (at least on the basis of the one occasion i've had that).
