Very good champagne but again for a DP and 2002 it is a bit "weak". Still on the fresh side, less toasted toast and oyster shell as usually. We had later a Rodez 2002. For many "younger" than the DP. 94

12/31/23, 6:35 AM - For me the DP was less evolved than the Rodez but it could be more concentrated for a 2002

Maybe 10th try. I'm still not a fan of this wine. Lacking concentration and precision. We will see the development. 94
  • aquacongas commented:

12/18/22, 3:20 AM - It is a really good wine, but if you compare it to other recent Krug vintages as 2002 and 2004 it lacks in freshness and precision (ratings 95-99). Compared to Edition 164eme (base 2008) it is far behind (96-100). Compared to other big houses or small growers from this vintage it has not the concentration and elegance and is "weaker" than the expectations but still a good wine. I had yesterday again a bottle and it was again not really convincing. In the beginning I was more 94-95. Now I'm more at 93-94 with points. But this wine is still better than 95% of the other champagnes. I don't think it will never be close to perfection . The good grapes are in the 164. But time will tell us in 10-20 years.

I expected a bit more. I'm a big fan of the Rare 2002, lovely old style prestige cuvee with roasted almonds. This one is shier but still in a baroque style. But the length is shorter. Anyway very approchable in this young stage. 92-93
  • aquacongas commented:

10/24/22, 7:27 AM - I'm not sure, but 2002 Rare was delivering from the first sip. We had some other 2008s and they were performing "better".
I think if the wine is REALLY big it is good in the beginning, in the middle and with aging. This wine shows some evolved ripeness for a 2008. I think it is not only due to the baroque house style. Compared to DP, Cristal, William Deutz BdB and Winston Churchill to name a few it is less fresh and less pleasant. But I don't know what will happen in 10 years. Just my feeling and experience.

Great wine anyway but phantastic for this bad vintage. Roasted pinenut, lemon zest, more powerful than other vintages because of the 20% PN he used for the first time in this millesime. He is now using his best wines instead of the two parcels of Avize. Love it. 97+

Another more mature bottle from my cellar,
having red the tasting notes here from last year before,
not that convinced, cause my experience is mostly a very ripe showing from this vintage, so try on my own,
pnp, put it in a big Riedel Bordeaux Sommelier, quite soaked cork, ripe stonefruit on the nose, little slate aka spice,
initially a finesse like stonefruit, but some dried apricot and ripe Elstar apples, good weight, deep, BUT in this bottle there is no enormous tension, for me all quite balanced, not really fully mature, but clearly at the beginning of its drinking window, O.K., more playful than the Escherndorfer from yesterday, but honestly, I do expect more from this vineyard and estate!
Maybe a bottle variance, I am always critical of a nearly soaked cork, but again for me a very typical 2009 GG showing,
the strong acid in the background will help to keep this wine in good condition, but the fruit of this bottle is a really (over)ripe one,
and clearly said: we are talking about a wine and bottle being between very good+ and outstanding+,
hopefully my next bottle will show different, ****(+?), 91 for this specific bottle at the moment,

revisit this bottle after three more hours, surprisingly NOW great purity, clean acid driven tension, cannot believe this myself, has changed to a complete different showing,
could this be the same bottle? So pleased that S-F Felseneck is now like it should be!
No more ripe fruit, all blown off, a stunning quality of this Felseneck,
My prejudice of the 09 Riesling GG vintage is invalid now, biting acidic finish, nothing there but spice, smoke and clean stonelicking, now ***(**), around 95,96, long life ahead!
So this needs a very decent decant or slow ox over half a day plus!

At Dom Perignon Hautvillers

Blanc 2012, 2010, 2008, P2 2003, P2 2002, P2 1998, P3 1992
Rose 20008, 2006, P2 1995

2012
typical nose after oyster shell, toast, refreshing acidity, citrus, well drinkable at the moment. Dosage between 4-6g/L. I preferred against 2010. 96

2010
more reluctant compared to 2012, some exotic fruits, makes fun to drink it now. Not the potential as 2008. 93

2008
Still great to drink. Lush, exotic fruits, sea breeze, balanced, powerful, still fresh. Roasted almonds, salted caramell. 98

P2 2003
Feels broader than the P2 2002, less acidity, lots of mango and pineapple, less oyster shell than 2002. 94

P2 2002
more acidity than 2003, but my problem with this wine, it has an unnecessary high dosage. 95

P2 1998
More complex and structured than 2002 at the moment, some nice honey notes to give depth and creamieness. 96

Rose 2008
The nose is full of red berries and red apples, some black currant. A sublime champagne which will be released next week. Raspberry sirup but still elegant and powerful. 97

Rose 2006
For a 2006 good but no chance against 2008. Maybe a hint too alcoholic and the finish too short. 94

P2 Rose 1995
PN nose, comparable to a Musigny, smoky, flinty, balanced, at least 10 more years. 97

P3 1992
Unbelievable fresh, toasty, citric and just a touch of rostaed aromas. Nice 1992. 96

Still primary fruit, very balanced, starting to reach his peak, silky tannins, alcohol well integrated. 93+

2003 DMG

From this size really fresh, black berries, a bit plums, soft tannins, you feel the hot vintage but not marmelade style, easy to drink and not over the top. 92-93

2007 MG

Still some oaky notes, much fruit, somehow one dimensional and missing a bit the refreshing acidity. I would prefer 03 as a warm vintage. 90

2002

Very reluctant, it reminds me to a classic Bordeaux vintage, even the nose shows black currant and cedar wood. Delicate and elegant. Even it was one of your first vintages it is a masterpiece, really not bold and broad. At least 10 more years. Great. 95-96

2001

Great structure and ultra fresh, firm tannins. It needs decantation. Lovely fruitieness and some herbal notes. A decade ahead. 94+

2004

I had this wine a few times before. Always delivering as today again. Fresh, elegant, decanted for 2 hours, reminds me to a very good Northern Rhone wine. Great acidity structure. White pepper, dark berries, saline and firm and ripe tannins. No hurry to finish it. For many in the group WOTN. 94-95

2011

Maybe this bottle was not perfect, a bit clumsy and some acetone

2016

3 hours decantation, ultra fresh and young. Very accessible and a pure fruit. Reminds many friends to a great Burgundy, I would go for a great CF from the Loire as Clos Rougeard. Graceful 95++

2014

2 hours of decanation. Fresh, accessible, evrybody's darling from the beginning. Tannins soft, great refreshing acidity, very balanced. 94

2000

Lovely, lean, still primary fruit, spicy, pepper, dark cherries, precise finish. Starting to reach his peak. At least 5-7 more yeras ahead. 94+

2006

A bit broad and wild. A lot of fruit but missing structure and substance for a further aging. 90

2008

Balanced, in a really nice drinking window, reluctant fruit but cracking acidity. 93

2009

A bit broad, a lot fruit, alcohol perceptible, somehow one dimensional. 91

2013

Fine, elegant, great structure, a lot of acidity, reduced fruit, spicy, a monster, precise finish. A lot to come in next 2 decades. 3 hours decantation. 95+

2012

Powerful and fruit dominated, less concentrated than 2013. Balanced, niice drinking window. 92

2015

Compared to 2013 a bit more "alcoholic" and not the finesse but still powerful and spicy Northern Rhone wine. Only 1 hour of decantion. Maybe this was the "problem".94+

2010

Still young, Many in the group are flashed from this wine, for me a bit short in the finish. Not completely balanced at this stage. I guess maybe in a closed window. Great structure. 92

2017

3 hours of decantation. Fresh, alcohol percetible, maybe it was a lot of alcohol at the end of the tasting, nicely balanced in fruit and acidity, great length, precise. 93+

Great champagne for this young age. It is a serious wine, probably the best Meunier wine maker in the champagne. If they can age I don't know but in his youth they are beautiful. 94

A brillant wine. I guessed Burgundy knowing that the Konsgaard was in the flight. So elegant and reluctant. Not over-ornated oak. Many years ahead. 98+

Medium dark red; very open fruity nose; soft, round, refined, very approachable, hint of licorice; extremely good

Trying Brut with 4g dosage, the most balanced one, slim, reluctant but "lusher" than the EB., base 2014 . 92

Extra Brut (Zero Dosage), base 2014, feels drier than the brut but in the same at this stage less balanced and round. Great salinity. 91

Cuvee de Goulte 2014. Lovely. Blindly you would guess BdB than BdN. For a Ambonnay superb fine and refreshing. Chalky and precise finish. 93-94

For me perfection. Still on the primary side, starting some tertiary aromas but in the background. Juicy, fruity, but with a lot of ripe tannins. Some hint of dark chocolate in the end. My guess was between Margaux and Mouton 1996. 100 without discussion. Decanted for 3 hours and drank over 3 hours.

I guessed Bizot, delicious, balanced. A beautiful discreet concentration that builds up in the mouth and continues for minutes. But never overwhelming. 97+

10/5/21, 11:38 AM - Hi, it was decanted for about two hours. Many people how great they are after decades but even in this young age it makes a lot of fun. Cheers

Drank it in a blind flight with 2 Krug Roses (different disgorgements), all wines above 95 points, but this was the winner, not only for me. Great depth, really stunning fruit without any annoying sweetness, so balanced and long fresh finish, one of the best roses I had so far, 96-97
  • aquacongas commented:

11/26/16, 3:34 AM - Dear Rolf, I Forget to write down the exact disgorgement, but I know the base wine was from 2008. I'm not a Rose Lover but this was the second best I had so far after Cristal 1996, comparable with DP 96 and Cuvee Elisabeth 1998. Enjoy

  • aquacongas commented:

9/29/21, 6:38 AM - We all at the table were really suprised. We all knew there were 2 older Krug Roses and a pirat. No one could guess the pirat and we all thought the best one in this flight (CH) was a Krug.
I agree the best Krugs' are frequently older Grande Cuvees, at least the most complex ones..Cheers

Roasted aromas that gives a hint it could be Mouton. I guessed LB 2000. Young with a lot of acidity. 96+

9/20/21, 9:34 AM - Hi you have 2 or more bottles I would open it. Very hedonistic, maybe 3 hours of decantation. Most of the 2005 are in nice drinking window. If you have one I would wait maybe 5-10 years. I liked it in this stage anyway.
