4/27/24, 8:02 AM - Hi there, yes metallic and slightly unclear aromas.
4/21/24, 6:12 PM - Thanks for the note. I like the reviews you've written and I noticed we have similar tasting experiences and observations.
4/22/24, 5:29 AM - Very nice to have the passion for collecting and consuming great wines. The only drawbacks are limited storage space and finding the time to enjoy what's been accumulated. Cheers!
3/18/24, 5:12 AM - Good point. I did not decant this wine, and I agree that it might have helped.
12/5/23, 6:49 PM - Drunkenness will get you nowhere.
10/1/23, 5:08 AM - Thanks for the insight. Yes, aging will probably help some. I've also consumed many fabulous bottles of La Jota from the late 80s & 90s, and I too remember La Jota when it was highly coveted and was considered a wine worthy of high scores and accolades. It used to be a favorite of mine, but sad to say, "it ain't what it used to be".
9/16/23, 6:22 AM - Hello,The 1995 needs a few hours of decanting. If you don't decant, whatever remains in the bottle should be consumed by the end of the next day, but watch for heavy sediment. Slight filtering is recommended. Cheers!
9/8/23, 2:34 PM - Your point is well made, and yes, I am complaining about the Excessive sweetness in a wine that can be made either sweet or dry. But in the interest of brevity, I didn't mention how it was also void of any minerality, or sense terroir, or fruit (other than apple juice). It was just so very sweet and virtually nothing else showed through at all. Granted, I don't often reach for German wines, but I'll keep looking for dryer styles and hope to find something that expresses more than just high sugar.
9/9/23, 6:02 AM - Thank you Vince for your excellent feedback. Very helpful and informative.
1/2/23, 5:07 AM - Thanks for asking. Yes, always in a temperature controlled environment and bought from a reputable wine shop. As I wrote: "I've bought 6 bottles based upon a recommendation which proved to be a horrible decision. I've opened 4 bottles and all have been dreadful". This wine is consistently bad and I do not have this type of problem with any other of my wines.
6/23/21, 9:15 PM - Hi R2-D2, I hope you have a positive experience too. Baron's of Point Loma is where I bought my bottles. And just remember that I wrote: "Caveat: I’ve sampled several bottles with mainly positive but varied results." So most bottles were very good but I also get the occasional weird bottle. But it's an excellent value and very rare to find a CdP from 05 for $20.
4/28/21, 7:42 PM - Good point... my error has been corrected.
4/3/21, 10:44 AM - I appreciate your comments, but this 2017 JBV was high alcohol, high acid & strong tannin. Saxum wines are built like a sandcastles of red & black fruit flavors that disintegrate and fade away too soon. Just FYI, I’ve collected Saxum for about 15 years and have noticed they do not last nearly as long as indicated by the community of experts. I’ve recently been burning through my Saxum bottles and I find myself saying “I should have drunk this wine years ago” because they begin to fall apart and lose their former power and elegance, becoming much thinner, lighter and acidic. Saxum is best when it’s young and you need to be a devotee of that style (which I once was) but the wines just don’t have the fortitude or staying power. Cheers!
3/18/21, 8:43 AM - Yes, this is a consistent loser. I bought a case of 2005 about 10 years ago and not a single bottle impressed me.
11/17/20, 7:12 PM - Good catch... this is what happens when multi-tasking and sampling two 2010 CDPs. I confused two sets of notes. Thanks!
11/13/20, 8:27 AM - I find older bottles randomly; sometimes as part of a collection and sometimes through a friend.
6/7/20, 1:00 PM - Hello, I remember clearly that I did not decant this wine. Do you think it would have made a tremendous difference?
3/2/20, 7:42 AM - If you have the option, you might want to sell them instead.
9/8/19, 7:04 PM - Hi Rackit,I see you're in Westport. I live in San Diego but my mom lives in Trumbull, CT and I would like to invite you to share a bottle of my 1979 Lynch-Bages when I go home in December. I just purchased a collection with 9 bottles of the 79' and they're still drinking wonderfully! I plan to ship my wines to CT in November, and I'd be willing to let a few bottles go if you're interested. Also, I'm looking for anyone who may be selling a decent wine collection to share with mom when I'm home for Christmas. Please let me know if you know of anyone. Thanks, Andrew
