Tuesday, July 18, 2023 - Long time fan of Bertani Amarone wine. Cork fractured on removal but still able to be removed intact via Durand. Cork saturated to about 25%. Nose muted initially. Color was brick red to garnet with a brick/brownish tinge which initially had me concerned. After about 30 minutes nose evolved to a very pleasant primary sweet cherry, along with some interesting complexity - smoke, black forest chocolate cake, and tobacco notes. Full bodied and silky mouthfeel with cherries, element of sweetness on the palate with some oakiness and tannin on the finish. Overall, much better bottle than I expected (I have had prior issues with older Amarones tasting very oxidized - which, pleasantly, was not the case here)
