Sunday, October 18, 2009 - Two bottles, both still filled into neck. Double decanted 3:30 before drinking. A gorgeous assertive old bordeaux with fiery red color and a soft leather and smokey nose that still somehow smells like an early summer garden. Dried flowers; a great spine; and a long balanced finish of blue fruits, wet earth, and candied currants. A perfect hint of gasoline; very alive. Not necessarily fruit driven, it's got a gentle old world attack followed by a gorgeous round savory surge of herbal remedies and dried flowers; dried cherries; sauteed portobello. Beautiful dried cherry and cherry pit finish. An unintrusive dream pairing that in every way complemented simple skirt steak marinated with salt, pepper, and olive oil and served with romesco.
