Sunday, April 30, 2017 - A few with friends (02 Huet, 08 Pride, Sattler Zweigelt) (Tom and Betty's): I was looking for something to take to the neighbors that would go with the food they were making (a vegetarian version of chicken with artichokes using seitan). I gave this a shot and I thought it worked pretty well. Low in alcohol 12.5%. Ruby/purple in color. The nose has cherries and rhubarb in it although not Pinot like. More deep and dark but still red fruit. Medium bodied. There is a nice complexity here. it works with the food, not elevating it, but staying in the background. Artichokes are a difficult food pairing, but this worked enough not to clash or get tinny. Finishing the bottle after dinner, this put on a bit of weight, but I will say, I appreciated the lower alcohol.
