Thursday, November 1, 2018 - Cru Beaujolais and Pizza Night (Brad's Place, St. Paul, MN): Medium dark red color. PNP, drank a glass next to the '11 over 45 minutes. Well, here go with what turned out to be flight of the night. Both of these wines have lot of similarities. For me, they stand on higher ground. I was pretty star struck from the moment I opened this and tried it. There is a purity here that you don't always see, but is a hallmark of great producers. This is evident of that and the wine making at Foillard. Captivating nose, focused and pure, strawberry, red raspberry, deeply earthy, smoke and dried spice. The palate fully delivers on that pretty nose with the same ripe strawberry and red raspberry fruits, such a pretty silky texture with a featherweight feel to it. The earth, smoke, soil, and minerality shines here too. Everything is so balanced; very elegant and harmonious. For anyone who says they don't like Beaujolais, they need to try this. If you don't like it, then you can confidently just move on. The '14 is a notch above the '11 currently. 93 to 93+pts and I feel I may be conservative here. .
