Thursday, October 18, 2018 - 13,5% alcohol.

Dark and somewhat translucent auburn red that doesn't look that young nor too developed with a pale brick-orange rim. The nose feels savory and quite dark-toned with brooding aromas of juicy black cherries, some savory woody tones, a little bit of tobacco, light blackcurrant tones, a leafy hint of herbaceous Cab character and a perfumed, nicely developed touch of fragrant floral character. The wine is moderately full-bodied, somewhat concentrated and quite powerful on the palate with intense flavors of sour cherries, some fresh blackcurrants, slightly developed tones of wizened dar berries, a little bit of leather, light toasty oak tones, a hint of earthy forest floor character and a touch of licorice. Overall the wine feels impressively muscular and structured with its high acidity and still rather firm and grippy, grainy tannins. The finish is long, powerful and grippy with a little bit of alcohol warmth and powerful, savory flavors of ripe blackcurrant-driven forest fruits, some plummy tones, a little bit of savory, woody oak spice, a hint of forest floor and a developed touch of tobaco.

A wonderfully structured, beautifully developed and still very impressively tightly-knit vintage of Tignanello that doesn't feel young anymore, but is still full of potential for future development. The wine feels rather ripe and concentrated - even for Tignanello - yet it doesn't come across as particularly sweet-toned or excessively heavy but instead very structure-driven, savory and classically built. Starting to drink beautifully, yet still I have no doubts that this wine can evolve for another 20 years in a cellar. A very impressive and rewarding effort for a Super-Tuscan. Highly recommended.
