Saturday, August 19, 2017 - Australian Reds (Rhone Vars) (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): Supposedly 70% Grenache, 25% Mataro, & 5%, “80 yrs ave vine age, from multiple vyds @ 898-1,640 ft elev with grey/brown clays, red-brown earth, and yellow sands to sandy loam over gravel & bedrock soils; Harvested 3/5 – 4/1/15, ea var vinified separately in traditional, open-top, concrete fermentation tanks; Full malolactic fermentation; Aged for 9 mos in used FR oak hogsheads; 14.5% ABV, 0.9 g/L R.S., 5.9 g/L T.A., & 3.5 pH;”

N: CLOSED; Berries?

P: Med, poss LM, body; Almost swtish frt met by some astringent pucker which slowly, fairly seamlessly transitions into a LONG, very, VERY slightly astringent, ult almost swtish finish. A relatively elegant style that needs/DESERVES 18-36 mos, then drinking for 3 or 4 yrs more? 92+ pts WA, 16.5/20 Jancis Robinson (Currin, 11/6/18), + other scores on wine-searcher's Tasting Notes pg.
