Wednesday, July 1, 2020 - First bottle tasted to get a feel for the drinking window and possible food matches. One-hour decant. Clear, dark garnet, no bricking yet. No sediment. Nose was fragrant during decant and in the glass: Deep cassis, dark chocolate and burnt frankincense on the nose. In the mouth, the wine was heavy, fruit forward and quite deep. Balance was good. Flavors of black currants, some baking chocolate, and Provençal herbs. Medium finish. About 150 minutes after decant, the burnt frankincense subsided along with the herbal finish. While the wine is very drinkable, I am likely to wait a year or so on the rest of these. As for food matches, this wine needs more than a steak! Something with a good red sauce or heavily herbed like a pepper steak or even fajitas. Good QPR.
